In all seriousness, I'm surprised how irritated Marcus was by a ... perfectly reasonable explanation. Wouldn't it make sense for someone as cunning as Palpatine to cover their tracks? What, does he not know how the mafia works, with a buffer of command meant to keep the don at the top clean? Besides, he's wrong when he says that Palpatine wanted Padme dead- it was Nute Gunray who wanted her dead as an act of revenge. So the levels of espionage aren't as complex as he makes them out to be: Gunray to Dooku, to Jango, to Zam. The tracks are covered. To quote Saul Goodman: "I know a guy, who knows a guy, who also happens to know another guy". Edit: And Jango took out Zam because... she was about to blow his cover?

And that could have prematurely lead to the discovery of what Dooku was doing far too soon, along with potentially expose Palpatine before his plan was near fruition. He needed the Senate and the Jedi to drag their feet as much as possible so that the time they DID grant him Emergency Power and finally go to Geonosis, the Clones could come in to save the day when the Jedi in their most desperate hour, and leave them much more vulnerable to Order 66 once the Republic deals the killing blow to the CIS. And of course, make the Senate think that Palpatine, being a successful Chancellor who actually gets things done, would leave it all the easier for him to persuade the Republic to reorganize into the Empire. Palpatine played the long game in the most intentionally convoluted way possible.

Palpatine’s plan is convoluted, but that doesn’t mean it’s good.
