I limited myself to one big shelf of over 300 films, and 30+ TV shows. If I find another movie, one on the shelf has to go. A movie has to be special and has to have meaning in order to go into my personal collection. It's always about curating the perfect collection that represents me. I don't want to own movies that mean nothing to me just to say I own them.

I only buy the movies I love. Just started buying discs again because it's annoying when streaming removes movies or shows you like.

I’m just over 200 movies, most of which I treasure, all alphabetical, and I may stop at 250 or 300. There’s a lot of favourites I still need and I might buy something new if it blew me away from watching online. But a movie has to earn it’s place in my collection. It’s a special honor 😁

I agree! Same with me. My movies have to mean something to me. I don't want random movies just to say I have them.

This is why I only buy movies I love and have big rewatch value...and I NEVER blind buy. I only have multiple copies of a handful of films...either blu-ray to 4k upgrades or I loved the artwork so much my willpower caved. 😅

Here's the thing: you don't have to stop completely. Just THINK with every purchase: will I ACTUALLY watch this movie? Do I REALLY NEED to own this? Could I just stream/download it? That's been my ethos and it's been way better. Love it with all my heart (5%): disc. Really enjoy it (35%): digital. Want to watch it/haven't seen it (60%): download/stream.

Really interesting thoughts and I totally agree. It can often seem out of control buying movies you know you may not get around to watching soon but intend to at some point. As you say, enjoy the collecting aspect and as a collector, we often can’t afford to not get something on release, knowing once sold out, the price will be higher. But in general, collecting is fun, I enjoy arrow releases and the art work is a huge factor in wanting to accumulate a decent arrow video library.

There are movie watchers and there are movie collectors, and we can be both.

I collect because i don't want to rely on streaming services, i don't want to be screwed if the internet goes out, i don't want to be screwed if a movie or show gets censored or canceled.

Of course, I think we all have those thoughts and then another great blu-ray or 4K pops up and I end up buying it, or I see yet another brilliant film in CEX. If you enjoy it, why not.

Exactly, plus, the collector's stuff always gets me, they know how to market. 😂

700? Yeah you're just getting started homie. Keep rolling until 2,000 then start to plan the path to 5,000.

as a very basic blu-ray & dvd collector, who doesn't even own a tv with 4k resolution, i really appreciate you for not being so "over the top preachy" about buying only 4k steelbooks or mediabooks or fancy special editions 👍😁 my collection is slowly pushing 1000 at the moment. but i'm probaby unhauling some stuff soon. there are just some things i'm not vibing with anymore *cough* 50 shades of grey *cough* (which in my defense i only bought because i was laughing my butt of the first time i saw it)🤐

I own 50 shades of grey because I like BDSM. A good film to watch with a potential girlfriend.

The question is with us buying so many movies. How many times do you go back to watch old movies in your collection
@HunterBoldingVideo5 ай бұрын
I go back all the time to watch old movies, or show people movies I've already seen in my collection.

In general I think things don’t really make us happy. The Buddhist in my feels bad about collecting things. But overall, collecting movies is a pretty harmless hobby overall. Watching movies is fun. Showing movies to my kids is fun. So I keep buying lol

It's never about the things anyway, it's about the memories surrounding the things.

Would you ever watch the movies you buy? No they are far too valuable. Would you ever sell them? No they mean too much to me...
@jollygoodfellow39575 ай бұрын
But, rip, then sell. Even if you are selling at a loss, it is still cheaper than keeping the movies.

I'm at the point where I'm really happy with all the unique titles in my collection. At this point I think I might get rid of some of the mainstream stuff but I don't care about. Especially things I got because of the great cast. But not really my type of film. Some mediocre conedies. Im gonna keep almost all the films by my favorite directors. A few actors I want own almost all there films. Im experiencing a lot of stuff. Trying to see what I can part with.

If you're not watching your. Movies, then you're not a movie collector you are a hoarder. I watch KZbin (collectors buy hundreds of movies every month and they still haven't watched the movies from last month. Why you're addicted to shopping, not movies. fantastic video These prices are pushing most collectors right out of hobby

I'm not buying movies that I'm never going to watch, hence the popcorn bucket idea, but there's a lot of movies, and not a lot of time in the day.
