"She's all set!" as they left headquarters in a complete mess. That is correct, cuz at this stage of life, the mind would logically be a destructive reconstructive mess. As a fan of the first movie, this seems really promising! I also love anxiety’s design. It’s supposed to have an off model freaky appearance to relate to how we get anxiety.

Based on the 4 emotions that they've chosen, I've got a theory. I think all of them are the original emotions looking inwards. Basically, they're reflections of the main cast. Think about it: Anxiety is Fear About Yourself: What if I screw things up? What if everyone doesn't like me? Embarrassment is Disgust About Yourself: Why did I do that? Why am I such an idiot? Ennui is Sadness About Yourself: Why am I not having fun? Why do I not have any goals? Envy is Anger About Yourself (Most tentative one): Why can't I do that? Why does everyone else get it when I don't? I think the plot of this movie is going to be about understanding and loving yourself. Joy will attempt to find happiness in external things, but the new emotions keep hampering her efforts, and it doesn't last. Eventually, she learns to look inwards to herself, revealing a final new emotion. Self-Love/Respect (Not sure on the name) Self-Love/Respect is Joy About Yourself: I'm doing alright. I nailed that assignment. Even if things go wrong, I'm still okay.

I mean you're half right. But none of those are solely inwardly expressed or felt. If we go off what you're saying about those 4 emotions then everything we feel is only about ourselves. It's a lot more nuanced than that. *I don't mean any disrespect by the way, just thought someone would comment about how those 4 emotions are not solely pointed inward, but no one did, so here I am. lol Like, how anxiety can definitely be about other things outside of yourself making you feel anxious, or being embarrassed for someone else or by someone else, never thought of ennui as being some self-reflective thing the way you're describing...it's more of "having the blahs" to put it simply, and that last one about envy feels inverted a little. We feel everything inwardly, in our own little worlds, so to call those 4 new emotions "the original emotions looking inwards" feels reductive. It's one half of the equation. I'll never check this again, so feel free to reply in any rude or hateful way you'd like (this is directed at anyone reading this lol), I hope it brings you peace. I really mean that. Thanks for letting me rant. Take care, internet strangers. Hug someone you care about, you never know how much time you have left with them. ❤ **except you, Billy, it's 8 months. Happy Holidays.

"Boredom" is an understatement for Ennui, when it is more akin to the aimlessness and emptiness of depression, to the point where one loses interest in things that used to be exciting to them, and contributes to the malaise of "feeling lost." And people thought Sadness was a downer in the first film.

So like when Riley's emotions started turning grey in the last film?
@nateclone3828 Жыл бұрын
My main fear for this film is that they'll just repeat Joy's character arc from the first movie again; learning that the seemingly "negative" emotions are just as important as she is and learns to be less controlling. Personally, I think it'd be better if all five emotions from the first movie had a shared arc of sorts, none of them being split up like in the first movie; they're all on the same page after Joy's development in the first movie, so they're facing these new emotions as a collective.
@airesbattleblade732 Жыл бұрын
Maybe they can go with a reverse of the last arc? In Inside Out 1 Joy tried to control everything and the problem was only fixed when she let other emotions take control. In the sequel, it could be that Joy tried to let the new emotions do their thing, like she learned Sadness had to do, but it ends up being a situation where she needs to reassert control. Anxiety, Envy, Enui, and Embarrassment all can be useful, but if you let them rule to much you will be worse off.
@nateclone3828 Жыл бұрын
@@airesbattleblade732 I like that, but I hope they aren't too obvious with that message. (Like, I hope they don't have a moment where Joy tries to reassert control herself and everyone is just like "well, I guess nothing's changed after all" because then it'll just become a retread of her development from the first movie). The first movie did a good job of portraying its message without words, and I'd like that subtlety to remain in the sequel. I also hope more of the mains from the first movie than just Joy have to step in and lead Riley, at points. Like, maybe Anxiety steps in to control Riley when Fear normally would, but they eventually learn that they need to work together, maybe creating a purple and orange core memory in the process.

Ennui is kind of hitting close to home for me right now because I’m feeling that a lot. I wouldn’t describe it as boredom, I don’t get bored more often than I used to, it’s more like dissatisfaction. You just feel unaccomplished with your life, it feels like you’re living in a filler episode and you’re not sure if the plot will ever continue. It’s probably what fuels teens’ desires to be “cool” as well as other things like midlife crises. Actually, anxiety, embarrassment, ennui, and envy sound like the perfect crew for a “I want to be cool/different” setup. They all play really nicely into that aspect of teenage life.

Before you showed the clip where Anxiety said what they were, I called it. Shows how good they are at designing emotions. 8:28 dark purple (far right) is ennui, they just look bored. Cyan (far left) is envy, because they are the greenest and "green with envy" is a common saying, that just leaves pink (middleish) as embaresment. These are logical guesses.
@moonbased7796 Жыл бұрын
Actually you’re on point cause if you go to the end of the trailer you will notice the names for the characters (like anger and joy for example) changes color depending their dominant color for example with Anger he is mostly red (not counting his clothes) and his name is a reddish color. So assuming they are using that logic for the others: Anxiety is orange (which we knew since she was in the trailer) Embarrassed (or embarrassment I’m not sure what they are gonna pick for them for the movie) is the pinkish purple. Envy is teal (I think it’s teal? It’s a mix between blue and green since they aren’t fully blue nor fully green either) who is the far left one based on the poster And Ennui is the darkish purple one.

I'm just wondering how their gonna explain the absence of these new emotions in other people, notably adults, in the first movie. Do the new four get their own place? Are they absorbed into the main five as a subset of emotions? I want to think of the latter, because Riley's parent's emotions seemed a lot more nuanced then her's were, and different emotions were "in charge" as opposed to always being Happiness. I guess I want to say that this movie will attempt to explain in its special way that emotions evolve as we get older and every person has they're own interpretation of each emotion.

The main thing I've noticed is all of the emotions have the same eye color as their main color except of course Joy- and Anxiety. Even the other new emotions have the same eye color to match themselves but Anxiety's pops green. I feel like this contrast that's in both Joy and Anxiety indicates the main story focus is on them- which makes sense because anxiety spikes at that age and we are a generation full of high intense anxiety. I'm a bit expectant that in Joy and Anxiety's conflict it may have a similar moment as she had with Sadness in how they blend and we'll see them create excitement for the unknown that is the future.

As I trudge my way through grade 9, and get ready for the behemoth that is high school, I’m actually really excited for how this movie tackles teenagehood. The change from “being a kid” to “a pre-adult” is a tiring, complicated, mess of a journey that i’m still working on, and showcasing that journey through different emotions has the chance to be really amazing. Pixar, please don’t mess this up, because if I have ever watched what you did with the first movie, I know you are capable of creating an absolute rocket of a feature film, and one that everyone, including myself, and look back on as fondly as we have with the original.

To be completely honest, as somebody with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, I'm extremely excited for this movie. I actually really like Anxiety's design, they're a lot more cartoony, fun and expressive than the other "human-like" emotions. There's so many different directions they could go with potraying teenage anxiety. I really hope we get actually good anxiety representation, because historically portrayal of people with anxiety falls into two categories - "Haha this person is having an anxiety attack! Isn't that funny?" or "Emo teenager who hates eveything and everyone and really needs a hug". My type of anxiety is different from others, I don't have very obvious anxiety attacks, only mental breakdowns that happen mostly in my head. And when I do snap and have a meltdown, I can easily recover from it (Albeit I will really most likely remember that meltdown for a extremely long time considering the fact that a lot of them have been quite traumatic for me). Anxiety is a spectrum that most people don't realize is one, and I'd love to see this movie showcase the spectrum. With this and several other pieces of media, I'm glad that anxiety is getting represented properly and not treated as a joke in Western media, although I do have to admit that the portrayal of anxiety in anime like Bocchi The Rock is still better

Apart of me hopes this movie acknowledges female periods. Ever since Turning Red and the Ghost and MM I've been supporting periods becoming more common to talk about in the media. It does annoy me that people treat talking about periods as an adult topic not suitable for children when girls as young as 10 can get there period. I also don't like how media makes it seem like only women need to learn about periods and yet its fine for men to learn about pregnancies. I believe if something is a natural human process then everyone should learn about it regardless if only happens to one gender. It's like people forget there are single dads out there with daughters that have to learn to manage this stuff. It hints at more, like a sunset, or a fox, or a butterfly, they all represent something like curiosity, the future, mystery, and adventure. And that feeling isn’t like joy, it’s more like being engrossed in something to a point that you’ve forgotten where you were. Like playing an instrument, just passion and interest everywhere. Also, In a way, Joy and Sadness are both two sides of the same thing, and Fear and Anger could be considered two sides as well, (Fight or Flight), So it makes sense to me that Surprise and Disgust we’re coupled together as well as emotions. Because they represent feelings like, disdain, loathing, avoidance, or just being revolted by something, then it only makes sense that it’s parallel would be being involved in something, being excited or interested in something, having your expectations being more, like wonder, surprise, amazed, about something.

Personally, all these complicated and nuanced emotions have been experienced between the five of us. Pixar can do their thing yk but we're more for complexity and character progression than anything. I think they'll be good additions though. Anxiety has always been attributed to Fear. Ennui, moodiness and depressive feelings usually attributed to Sadness, but none of us are one-sided, or two or even three-sided. @galacticgila219 made a comment referencing anxiety's design is potentially based off of a volcano and I think that was a smart observation and I can definitely see it in the design. Also, I can see their hair not 'bursting' and 'exploding' like anger's does, but slowly running like lava because of course anxiety overflows and once you start you can't stop. I wonder if this does happen, maybe they will take a plot route similar to how in the original sadness was the 'damaging' character, maybe Anxiety's hair could like overflow and drown out all the other emotions, and they could be the 'damaging' one. However of course there are alot more emotions to be explored, so that might not be the go to route. Maybe Anxiety has an effect on all the other emotions too? As in, turns them somewhat stressed as in teenage years I myself atleast find myself with weird mixes of even joy and anxiety. Or maybe, all the new emotions seem to have some part to play as a 'damaging' character. Of course teenage years comes with more complexity, and Riley may be upset with how she is now, and maybe its a whole 'accept these new emotions, embrace them' sort of message? As she learns to cope with these more complex feelings throughout the movie, and each of the new characters have an issue that gets 'fixed' and maybe that is a metaphor for a young teen learning to cope with those new feelings? Also on a side note, i wonder how these characters would respond to therapy considering therapy helps you cope with emotions

Envy is gonna be in the movie

Exactly! It doesn't even have to be romantic love alone. It can be any kind of fondness that a person develops more and more of through life. Or compassion/empathy, or as you pointed out "envy", or "desire" (again, doesn't have to be romantic, could just be a longing for something beyond what you have. Children tend to be quite content with little, but as you grow you often tend to desire more).

@@Viviano_Magami Nope, it's more of a mix of desire - which doesn't seem to exist in the universe - and anger, if anything.

I feel a bit weird about anxiety tbh. As someone who experiences it often, i think a mix of fear and sadness represents it pretty well already. Also why orange? It’s such a positive color, and I get why in the first movie they said sadness was necessary, but anxiety? How can anxiety be good? I’m usually very hyped for these releases, so sorry if I sound like a bummer, but It’s the first time I feel this worried. Also it retcons the first movie where everyone has 5 emotions and the mixes represent all the nuances, I dunno I really hope I’m actually wrong and this movie turns out great

Yup. I agree with you. Couldn't have something just happened, caused chaos in Riley's mind and resulted in Sadness and Fear taking over - maybe a little bit of Anger (since you might get snappish), and Disgust (since one of the symptoms is nausea, which is a pretty disgusting sensation to have to deal with)? I think having Anxiety as a whole knew thing was a move to sell merch, rather than actually do interesting stuff with the universe they've already set up. Besides, both her parents have those basic emotions and work with that... this doesn't make sense unless you're telling me adults never experience anxiety. Which, as an adult now... is bs.

@@js66613 true! Yes with a bit of anger and disgust makes perfect sense to me, you are right! But yeah I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way

I agree that it’s definitely a mix of sadness and fear but I think and hope that they are going to describe it as more of a mental disorder rather than another emotion. I also think the anxiety’s that people have as they get older is much different from when you’re younger.

According to color theory orange can stand for “alert” or “attention” alongside more generally positive themes like creativity and sociability :]!
@HauntakuTV Жыл бұрын
@@aylaandemily3591 It's not a freaking disorder - it's a part of life. Also, a lot of y'all forget that Riley is autistic. Anxiety will be leading this movie.

i REALLY don’t want them to mess this one up. after toy story 4 and incredibles 2 were really disappointing sequels to my favorite movies in pixar’s catalogue, i don’t want to get my hopes up too much, but it does look pretty good so far, so i am pretty excited
