The animation is *technically* good. It’s very fluid, the textures are pretty ok for the characters and sets needing to look like plastic, etc. the characters are expressive and the models and characters designs are cute and nice to look at. It’s just not very creative. You can even step away from The Lego Movie and look at both Wreck-It-Ralph movies, the stilted animation of some of the characters being very representative of their respective games. Technically jerky animation isn’t “good” but in that context it’s much better than what we see in the Playmobil movie because emulating a particular look and feel, is more creative and much harder to accomplish, than simply having technically “good” animation.

I have a theory that in the beginning this movie should have been the film of the TV serie "Super 4", and it was pretty good even if it is kinda simple. I said that for 2 reasons: 1) In the Italian Wikipedia in the Super 4 page there is written that in 2018 there will be a Super 4 film and at the end there is this film (I don't know if in the other Wikipedias there is written this); 2) In this movie there are similar things to the tv series: there is an agent who is very intelligent and creates things (the agent from the TV serie is 100 better than the Daniel Ratcliffe one), the setting of the fairyland in the movie is similar to the TV serie's one and other things... I don't know why the producers didn't do a movie about Super 4, it has so much potential than the "Playmobile Movie", they could give much lore in the serie and they could give a true good finale... [I'm sorry if I did grammatical's error in this comment, English is not my native language😅).

@Dusk Raccoon Yeah, Lego naturally leaves way more room fore creativity, so naturally a movie based on Lego has more potential (not to speak of all the licenses they could use). But still, Playmobil can be a creative toy, too, and at least in Europe it's quite a big thing (Well, I'm from Germany, the country where it comes from, so naturally it's most popular here - I don't know if it's that much a thing in other countries, too), so a movie based on that premise might still have been great, but they wasted its potential almost completely.

The Lego Movie wasn't a musical, but the sequel was. But it managed to be self aware of this, while having no effect on the real world. It even managed to spawn a new ear worm of a song called: Catchy Song (The song that fully embraces being stuck in your head). Sure it wasn't as good as the first movie, but it was still enjoyable for what it was. I personally think it's underrated just because it did poorly in the box office when it didn't really deserve it. Well at least it didn't end on a cliffhanger to get you hyped for another movie, and if it means no more Lego movies, at least it has ended on a high note. Playmobil The Movie on the other hand won't be remembered over time. I mean, it already struggled to get into cinemas in the US despite existing for several years and people still barely acknowledge its existence. Overall: Lego is a great toy brand with great movies. And no imitation will be able to top them, especially in movies from what I've seen so far.

Obviously it was just done for a funny bit piece, but we could say that bending plastic knees just feels different so it took her a moment to figure it out? The fear of the battle caused her to just jump into running without overthinking it, and once she had done it she understood the difference. And since all the other characters, minus her brother, have always been playmobil, there was no learning curve for them. Still a poor explanation, but it’s the closest thing I can think of that somewhat makes sense if I try to think about it 😅

I think that what would make this movie at least a little bit better is if the brother actually learned something due to the whole adventure. The film basically now shows that the sister was wrong, even though she kept the whole house, making food for her brother and working hard for their living. I think that it would be better if brother while being kept in the prison was treated horribly wrong, like not getting a lot of food and being insulted. That would give him comparasion of how his sister always treated him right and and that could give him character development. There is a lot of more to fix here but I think that would make the "lesson" more convincing. You still here? How sweet of you! Here, have a cookie 🍪

It's so easy to forget all the composers, animators, modelers, and concept artists and all the things they did right when the people writing the story fail to make the whole thing entertaining. I think that it's important to acknowledge the people who really did put their best foot forward despite knowing it would probably go to waste, even if it's just saying "Hey, the finished product wasn't very good but you guys really did do a good job with the visuals/music/concepts and it *does* show." It would be so easy to just give up and do the bare minimum knowing that all your hard work is being put into a sinking ship.

I hate how they made a joke about Marla not being able to walk because her legs don't bend, then for the rest of the movie everybody's legs are able to bend, including hers. (Random example: 13:57) I hate it because of what the Lego Movie did (and succeeded with). The characters moved just like real Legos. Here, they just make a "OoOoOhH, she has to move just like a real Playmobil figure" joke and then drop it immediately afterward. Everybody moves like a human, which is fine if they wouldn't have mentioned the possibility of the characters functioning as Playmobils and then just gotten rid of it.
@heyheyitsjae24755 жыл бұрын
The primary problem with this film's concept for me (having only seen the trailers) is a lack of iconography. LEGO has ton of well known (at least to its fanbase) and interesting original characters under it's belt, like Johnny Thunder, Lloyd Garmadon, the Classic Spacemen. In addition they've got a ton of notable licensed charactes like Gandalf, Batman, and Han Solo. With The LEGO Movie they managed to weave in tons of background characters and easter eggs so that both hardcore LEGO Fans and casual cinema viewers could catch something that related to them. But Playmobile, as far as I know, doesn't really do that. Much like LEGO's original Town theme, Playmobile doesn't really go for iconography with its characters. They're designed to be generic and basic and (dare I say it?) bland. When TLM came out I saw tons of people freaking out over "oh my god its the Series 2 Vampire" or "oh look its those weird 2002 basketball figs" or "did you catch that? It was the Toa Mata!" I don't know if this could match that level of hidden references. One would argue that goes against the "product placement" point, but most of the easter eggs in TLM were from long retired products, acting more as nostalgia than advertisements. Of course, all of this is coming from someone who's been following LEGO for 12 years and never touched Playmobile so maybe I'm just underplaying their character designs.

They could have made the story better. For example: Before their parents died, Maria and Charlie's parents wanted Maria to go to college because they wanted a better life for her. Then they die in the car accident. Now Maria feels guilty because a part of her wants to travel and see the world and the other part of her remembers the promise she made to her parents before they died. On top of that, she has to take care of her younger brother while thinking about what to do next. Meanwhile Charlie wants he and Maria to play with the Playmobil toys like when they were younger because it reminds him of better times. But because Maria is so stressed out with her future and taking care of Charlie she pushes him away, they drift apart. Then Maria and Charlie get sucked into the Playmobil world. And during her journey to rescue Charlie, Maria realizes that she should do what makes her happy instead of what her parents wanted her to do. By the end of the movie Maria and Charlie reconcile, come to terms with their parents death together and they travel. The End. Feel free to add any other suggestions.

I am a little late for the party, but this would be my take: After their parents death, Maria sticks to going to college for a degree she does not want, putting her parents wishes over her own dreams. Charlie meanwhile does not want to grow up, only wanting to play with his Playmobile toys, because they remind him of better times. This also puts more pressure on Maria, who wants to take care of her little brother. *both get transported to Leg-.... Playmobile world* Charlie does not get kidnapped, but instead refuses to leave, because this world means never having to grow up for him, so Maria has to chase and convince him to leave. While doing so, she slowly realizes that she does the same thing to some degree by sticking to her hated college and future job, refusing to let go. Meanwhile the (at first modern) Playmobile world gets threatened by some evil monster or dark force that gradualy reverts the world back in time (giving a solid reason to visit different times/scenarios). Of course Charlie, wanting to be a classic hero, tries to defeat that force. Not realizing at first, that this would also mean he would at least get separated from the people in the past. In the end, they defeat the big evil thing, getting help from everyone they became friends with, from every key-scenario they traversed, also being tested on how much they trust each other. They both learned to accept having to leave the past behind (litteraly and figuratively), and return to real life, where Maria pursues her dream career, and Charlie finaly moves on, accepting other people in his life/growing up. Maybe they get a little token as a rememberance to the adventure they had, symbolizing that you can remember and treasure the past, without letting it impact your future. *the end* I think that would have been a good film, if the middle part is made well enough, even though it is a bit cliche and maybe a bit on the nose with the symbolism.

My siblings and I had a playmobile dragon that would eat the playmobile characters ... until its head broke off so it was then a zombie dragon. It would always spare the horses because they were caffeinated and the dragon hated coffee. Probably a lot more stuff happened but this is all that I can remember 🙃

It should’ve stuck with his story Here’s how it would go: The main character spends 6 minutes in the live action sequence, where she transforms into an animated character after getting into an accident after trying to escape a government facility. The animation sequence starts and she meets a look-a-like of the guard before she transformed at his mansion and is given a tour. The guard reveals himself to be Dasher. He tells her that he is trying to hide from a evil organization. The organization finds them and the first fight begins and they (the organization) leaves after getting overwhelmed with Dasher’s gadgets. The two characters spend a date at a restaurant and enjoy each other. The next day, Dasher calls the main character telling her that he is worried that the organization is watching over him, the call hangs up and she heads to his mansion to find him tied in a chair by the organization. She tries to help him but realizes the chair handles are covered in glue. Dasher tells her he will be fine. She tells him how she doesn’t know anything about helping him. Feeling angry. Dasher tells her to leave. She does so and finds that a high power laser is on Dasher’s doorstep, She sees two guards bringing it in. They close the door and she climbs to the top of the building and finds her way inside. She chases the guards away and grabs the chair holding Dasher and unties him from it. The leader of the organization finds them and alerts his guards about their whereabouts. The guards are defeated, leaving the leader as the last remaining villain, The organization leader grabs Dasher and attempts to make a deal with the main character, she refuses and Dasher is nearly thrown off the building only to discover that his butler has his personal plane available. The leader finds his way in there and sends its coordinates to an island and fights Dasher. The main character stowed away on the plane and assists Dasher in the fight, giving him his laser. However he (the villain) misses the target and accidentally punctures the bottom of the plane causing him to fall through the plane into a volcano. Dasher, the main character and his butler escape and head back to his mansion. The main character leaves the animated world and heads back to find that her grandparents were waiting for her in the government facility and take her home. In a post credits sequence, Dasher is shown to have bought a new security system to make sure no villains can enter his mansion.

I think the idea of certain settings and characters being tossed away when they’re finished with what they’re doing is interesting, it reminds me a lot of how a good few kids play with toys, play with one or a few, get bored, play with new ones, rinse and repeat

The movie's would've been kinda better if Maximus started pampering and manipulating Charlie after realizing how useful he could be and coaxing him to stay in Playmobil world and be his "Greatest Warrior" while Marla was her adventure into trying to get herself and Charlie back into the real world.

When it comes to the Lego Movie, what separates it from all the rip-offs like the Playmobil/Emoji/Bobbleheads movies boils down to two things: 1: Lego toys have way more potential for storytelling and creativity. All their various themes- Pirates, Rock Raiders, Cowboys, etc. all have named characters and established "good" and "bad" teams (see Johnny Thunder and Baron Von Barron from the Adventurers theme). All of which are springboards for creative storytelling. Playmobil sets, as you mentioned, are generic archetypes. Sure, you can still tell a story with them, but that relies entirely on your own imagination whereas Legos provide something to actually work with. Working within limits can result in much more creative solutions. Not to mention that Lego sets are not only able to be taken apart and remade into something new, it's actively encouraged; every Lego set ever has pictures on the back of the box/instructions showing suggestions of how to remake sets into whole new creations. Playmobil sets are pretty much set in stone (or rather, plastic). If you have a Lego house, you can rebuild it into a castle, or a boat, or a car. If you have a Playmobil house, all it can really be is a house. 2: The Lego Movie was made with actual passion. Yes, you can argue that the Lego Movie is still one big ad like the Playmobil movie, but even so you can tell just by watching it that it was made by people who love Lego and want to show that love in every way. They didn't just make a bunch of CGI Lego figures like the video games, they deliberately animated them to only move like an actual minifig, as if the whole movie was made in stop-motion (yeah they cheat a wee bit with the neck and shoulders but its hardly distracting), and gave them the same kind of textures that minifigs have, even adding fingerprints and wear and tear like with Benny's helmet- if you grew up with Legos, you know those helmets were always prone to snapping like that. And all that effort wasn't just to make it more realistic, it was a big, unspoken love letter to all the Lego fans who created and shared Brickfilms online for decades. They even make a reference to "The Magic Portal", considered the first Brickfilm. Not to mention all the "master builder" stuff, and the themes about how everyone is creative in their own way. It's not just a movie with Legos in it, it's a movie that manages to capture how it feels to play with Legos. Playmobil... well, yeah everyone looks like a Playmobil figure, but that's as far as it goes when it comes to showcasing Playmobil. If you replaced them all with some other toy line, like Beanie Babies or Betty Spagetty dolls or even Pet Rocks, the movie would hardly be any different. It's just a shameless cash grab riding the coattails of the Lego Movie and little else.
