Poco was once jokingly referred to as the Eagles minor league team since they nabbed Randy Meisner and later Timothy B. Schmitt from them. My personal favorite tune by Poco is "Rose of Cimaron", definately worth a listen.

Rose of Cimarron is my favorite song of Poco's and may be my favorite song by anyone. Timothy B. Schmidt's voice immediately after the guitar solo and the very slight banjo as the song fades out are masterful. I inherited my best friends house in the Colorado mountains. In that house I have a handwritten copy if the lyrics of Rose of Cimarron which were printed by Rusty Young who wrote the song.

Rose of Cimarron is my favorite Poco song, as well as just one of my favorite songs PERIOD. It's on a regular rotation on a couple of my playlists. The band Poco was a favorite of mine back in the 70's, so much so that I named my dog Poco back then. She was a good dog.

The original Poco, formed in 1968 had Richie Furay and Jim Messina as founding members. Before they started Poco, they also happened to be members of Buffalo Springfield who, as you know, also had Stephen Stills and Neil Young as members. And, yes, Jim is the Messina from Loggins and Messina. By the time this song you reacted to just now was produced the band had many personnel changes. Furay and Messina were no longer with them and neither was another founding member of the band, Randy Meisner, who went on to be a founding member of The Eagles. Meisner just died a few months ago.

Fantastic song. It always puts me in a mellow mood. Poco has many more to dive into and several people have already mentioned their connections to other bands. For a faster paced song, still with great harmonies, by them go back to 1972 and the title track of their A Good Feelin' To Know. It will put a smile on your face.

Poco is also famous for band members who left and had even more success. Jim Messina on his own and with Kenny Loggins. Randy Meisner joined the Eagles. Timothy B. Schmitt left Poco to replace Randy M. in the Eagles. Even with all the member changes over the years, their sound had consistency.

Perhaps not for everyone, but the different styles and types of music they recorded is phenomenal! From country, to rock, to blue grass, to ballads, to acoustic, to a combo of all the above! This is due to all the band members writing their own songs and incorporating them into the Poco sound! Seriously, this channel could spend literally weeks covering their songs over the 20+ Lp's they produced! Absolute BS they are not in the R&R hall of fame! Rip Rusty and Randy.

It's easy to hear why so many of us who grew up in this generation LOVED music! This song, which was a hit in 1971, still brings back memories. There are a few other songs from this era that have a somewhat similar (though not quite the same) vibe that I'm sure you would enjoy. Check out "Amie" by Pure Prairie League. And "Sunshine" by Jonathan Edwards. And "Rings" by Cymmaron (kind of different from the others).

I'm so thankful for your channel. It is reminding me of so many great songs that I'd 'temporarily' forgotten, but now come flooding back. I love this song and especially how it ends. Thanks.

More Poco would be great. They have at least another dozen and a half awesome songs. With better promition they would have gone down as one of the best groups of the 60s and 70s.

Please react to Poco's great song "Rose of Cimarron." You will also enjoy the live version of their song "In the Heart of the Night" that they did at the No Nukes concert. Another great one from them is "Keep on Trying." There are sooooooooooooooooooo many great Poco songs!

Love the folk rock!! Poco was one of those seminal bands that gave us other famous people like Jim Messina. Poco is smooth music. Another smooth song from the 60's you might like is "Fresh Air" by Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Poco was a pioneer of “country rock”, beautiful harmonies, great songwriting. I saw them many times in the early 70s. Richey Furay, Jim Messina, George Grantham, Meisner, Schmit, Paul Cotton, Rusty Young, etc. - such great musicians!
