This episode was absolutely amazing. Otto Suwen's past reveals that he has struggled a lot as a child because of his Divine Protection. We also saw a flashback to Arc 3 (Season 1) where Ricardo rescued Otto after he was captured by Betelgeuse. The cut content during Otto's fight with Garfiel was very important though, make sure you watch that part of the video. The results of the fight are unknown, but Garfiel appears at the end of the episode, covered in blood. If Ram and Otto are dead, Subaru will have no choice but to use Return by Death, which would make Roswaal the winner of their bet in Season 2 Episode 39. The kiss scene was amazing! Subaru and Emilia have a big argument that ends with a kiss, confirming that Emilia has feelings for Subaru. Emilia and Subaru's kiss was a important milestone for their relationship, and it was only possible because of all the valuable development Subaru has gained during his adventure.

This is the moment I started to like Emilia as a character. For months I had been reading Arc 4 and I was so wishy washy on her, but after she stood up to Subaru and had the outburst she had it made me love her character. To me, no spoilers ahead mind you, this was when the Emilia character really started to make sense within the context of the whole series. In this moment she showed that she could stand up for herself and prove she was more that just a pawn to be used by Roswaal in his plans. This is the moment Emilia became herself, and started on the path to becoming the EMT everyone wanted her to be. Strong, brave, fearless - that's the Emilia that I think everyone wants to see, it's the Emilia that we deserve. Season 2 is Emilia's season just as much as it is Echinda's and I hope you all will witness that as the season continues together. As for Subaru, this was equally an important moment for him. It showed that to him Emilia was more than just the pretty character in his own personal anime. Through his parents, his experiences up until now and through his loss with Rem he can now realize with no doubts that he is in love with this woman and doesn't just want to be in love with her, but wants to see her get better on her own, to accomplish these things on her own without his aid. While Emilia was heart broken to see Subaru broke his promise, she at the same time needed to realize nobody would be there for her every single time. It is up to her to act on her own and be her own individual. *big breath* - thank you for coming to my Ted Talk, this will probably be in my next ReZero video if this BS Kadokawa/Crosswarp stuff is solved. In a lot of ways, this episode was a throwback to Season 1. The whole scene with Subaru and Emilia reminded me of Episode 18. The Otto flashback was a direct reference to the Rem flashback (even with their child-like faces that Echidnut references). Finally, Otto’s battle reminded me of all the times Subaru fought to make it through Season 1.

There’s a possibility where we could see Otto use Al Dona and that might be in the next episode, although I doubt it. Remember how Garfiel falls into Otto’s trap. It then goes to Otto’s past afterwards and when his backstory ended, the scene instantly goes to where we see Otto running away from Garfiel in the forest, so maybe the next episode shows how things occurred in Garfiel’s perspective, (how he got out of the trap and what happened leading to the scenes that have appeared on screen already) meaning Otto could have used Al Dona offscreen/early on, since Ram showed up. That or there’s the possibility Otto uses Al Dona at a different time during the fight with Garfiel than expected from the novels.
