Subaru's Gate collapses, and he loses the ability to use magic. However, this allowed him to unlock his new Authority, which he calls "Invisible Providence". Garfiel learns a valuable lesson after being defeated by Subaru & his allies, and then passes the first trial, overcoming his traumatic past. Now allied with Subaru, Garfiel will help accomplish his goals. Emilia is now confident enough to pass the trials, and realizes upon entering the tomb that Subaru broke her promise only to write "love letters" for her on the tomb's walls. Emilia's trial begins with a barrage of insults from Echidna, who calls her a "Witch's Daughter".

anime only spoilers yeah, i think what made him compatible is when he killed fortuna he didn’t bother to face her death, he ran away from his mistake, the sloth thing about him is how he thinks. he works very little to face his problems and blamed it on subaru in episode 14 or 15. “by your hand....” “YOU KILLED HER” “you you you you” “And because of you” this is him taking out his anger on subaru because he killed his most loved one, all this lack of energy and effort he puts into physical energy, and pain. from what i’m told i think biting his fingers let’s him summon more unseen hands. i also believe this theory though as well.
