Witch Queen was my last expansion as a " hardcore Destiny player" I have made advances in life that do not allow me to have as much time to play. I finally beat the witness yesterday with people I've been playing with since meeting them on an lfg site for day one vault of Glass in Destiny 1. We are all struggling with what's coming next seeing that everyone is ready to move on from Destiny yet it was the one game that held us together and so we said some pseudo goodbyes to the people that do not meet up in IRL and it was tough.

Is everyone really ready to move on from destiny? Or do you mean move onto Destiny 3 or something? D2 being 7 years old means nothing in the age of live service games. WoW is TWENTY years old and still going strong. Runescape is 23 years old and still going. Destiny has its core playerbase that will play until the servers go down, there's no reason for bungie to quit Destiny unless they're stupid. It's a constant source of revenue. They just need to balance their spending better and not siphon off profits to fund stupid Marathon which nobody is interested in. I've only recently started playing destiny somewhat hardcore, I've played on and off since the launch of d1 but never did raids or anything end game. I have huge regrets that I didn't play d2 more seriously because the past 8 months I've been playing seriously have been the most fun I've ever had in a game, and most of that time was during shitty lightfall.

I have several theories, but based on quests and dialogue after beating the campaign and in the side missions I think things are going to go as such. The three echo shards of the Witness are fused with light and dark energy that it warps paracausality, We saw it in full form when entering the pale heart. The Dark pictured the thing, and the light made it real. These echoes are able to take a concept and push it to the extreme based on who held them. The first touched down on the terraformed vex planet of Nessus, it responded to the hard scanned copy of Maya Sunderesh and gave them a physical form. Then this Maya who I'll refer to as (AS) used the shard and her millions of cloned ai to Coerce the Vex under her control. The Radiolaria being the main focal point of this which responds greatly to the echo as it is apart of something ancient like the Gardener and Winnower, essentially meaning not only are Vex able to be converted into their control, but any and all Exos, as Exos' are made of the Radiolaria. As we find a way to get this echo back from AS, we begin to understand that these things can bend and rewrite rules of the universe, akin to taking a pawn, and turning it into a queen in chess. So we make haste to find the next two. The second falls to Fikrul, who needed more dark ether to produce a large legion of Scorn. using their fragment and knowledge we have on their season, it's likely he's found a way to transfuse blood or biomatter from other living things, and mix it with dark ether to essentially mass produce the substance. their goal could be since they are on earth, to make landfall near or around Twilight gap, where millions of Fallen lie dead. revive them with the power and extra dark ether, and then overwhelm the last city in one blood frenzy as all our attention is diverted to the traveler. the final one will land either in one of the two hive sisters hands, or on Oryx themselves on Titan. Seeing as preliminary scans of Oryx's body show it still dead, but accumulating energy and growing, the Shard will be used in their second coming perhaps. Bending the rules of Necromancy to their favor and allowing Oryx to defy the sword logic (i.e. Heresy). so it'l be up to us to try and stop this or keep them sealed within Titan so they can't escape and threaten the city once more. This will probably be a Drifter focused season, as they will be getting some vibes of the 9 going on to warn him about the oncoming disaster. It's plausible that the arrows flying out the traveler showed more than just three shards, as we'll in the next expansion try to obtain the rest of them. In a most recent game of Gambit, Drifter stated "you ever have to eat a hive? you'll be faced with choices like that if you wanna survive out in the frontier." We'll likely be going to the place for the next destiny expansion where drifters crew was wiped out and he fought creatures that could suck the light right out of you as he's regaled to us several times at this point as the echoes, once gathered will probably react to something out on the frontiers of space (i.e. The winnower) leading us to see some wild and truly legendary stuff. Sorry for the massive dump, but these are the threads I've been plucking at as of late based on lore, patterns, and years playing this game. I'm excited to see if I'm right in some way in the coming months.

I'm going to one up you and say I want the ENTIRE 10 year storyline able to be experienced, including stuff from Destiny 1. Even if Destiny 1's story was generally considered a hot mess, players should at least experience and get the context behind the Taken and Oryx, as well as resolve the SIVA crisis and usher in a new age of Iron Lords. If the rumors of "Payback" being a Destiny 3 is true, I hope they are focusing on that. The narrative behind Destiny is a hot mess for new player to get into, especially given Bungie continues to force players to play the first mission of the current expansion, which is awkward when a newly risen, fresh out of the grave Guardian is being sent to the Pale Heart to stop the Final Shape.

I've thought about this and really the only way this could work is if they allowed you to download parts of it like how you can dowload COD in pieces. Otherwise with all of the content D2 has, it would basically fill up the entire memory drives of Playstations and Xboxs. What I'm hoping for Frontiers is us and our new allies going BACK to their original planets of Riis and Xintar, reclaiming them from Darkness and whatever the hell else is out there. I'd love to see a Darkness consumed Andromeda being healed by a direcy attack by us on whatever the hell did it, besides the Witness. I'm holding out hope that the Episodic format leads eventually to have LESS time gating and waiting. Praying Revenant doesn't force us to wait over 2 weeks for its 2nd act, lol. Ah... so you feel it too. Was wondering when people would pipe up about having that feeling. I'll be real with you, once the witness was revealed, once the darkness started acting more aggressively post traveller lighting up a few years ago, Destiny lost something. As best as I can describe it, a sense of lingering hopeless dread lurking everywhere. But the more things were revealed and explained, the more I was left feeling like: "Oh..." That isn't to say I haven't enjoyed the ride. The explanations and reveals just lessened how much. For example, when the hive were just spooking, light-eating, guardian-murdering, baddies who made ya fear to go into the dark where they lurked, great. Hive after explanation of their origins (oh... they're victims...I guess), all that atmosphere gone. Quadruple that feeling once the witness was revealed and defeated. I miss the grimdaek feeling destiny had. That pirate season was basically them saying grim dark is gone, lightfall expansion was doubling down of that sentiment. And now, who knows where things are going. TL;DR: I hope what got me into destiny comes back. Whatever feeling that was. Right now I'm hanging on by a thread, and I'd rather not give Destiny the Marvel treatment without a worthy send-off.

My biggest problems with seasons and episodes are they don’t build things to last. I get it’s the “seasonal model” but I would rather us abandon it for content made to last. Perfect example is onslaught, it had nothing to do with the seasonal model, didn’t play a major story role or anything like that. It was just a fun mode to play that had replay-ability. I still play it even though there’s no shinies anymore because it’s just fun. We’ve had years of the seasonal content with things coming and going, bungie should take the time with episodes to either build engaging content or actually update what we have right now. Give strikes & gambit the 3.0 treatment our subclasses got in witch queen. Everyone’s talking about us leaving our solar system but I think they need to focus on what we have first while they have the time before moving to the next adventure. There’s no witness, no savathun, no finale shape or big bad to worry about right now, no new expansion next year to focus on. We’re in unexplored territory, take the time to fix things.

I don’t think there’s any significance to the 12-13 echoes. They show 3 in the epilogue cutscene to signify 3 episodes, but in other places they just talk about a lot - could be hundreds. Maybe some fizzle out, maybe some are future leads. It’s deliberately ambiguous

Maybe rework it to do something with Amplify.) -Put Weapons/Armor of Light back onto Bubble -Overhaul the entire titan exotic armor library so people don't just default to Synthos/Wormgods/HOIL -Learn how to balance PvP and PvE Separately (this applies to all classes)

I need to complete the campaign on my warlock and my hunter, because my titan right now is not doing a whole lot. The only thing that’s really holding it up is amplified, knockout and consecration. My damage is mad every time and it doesn’t seem like there’s any real clear build that’s optimized like the double nighthawk or the new solar warlock super. Titans have had a lot of stupid things in the past, but I feel like it’s just become like overshadowed by hunters ability to do damage and warlocks ability to support others. I don’t want to turn the titan sub class into unmovable objects or unstoppable force, but can we please try to make it a little more useful in the current sandbox?

About to watch the video and I'm hoping you touch on some aspect of preservation for D1 and D2. We have lost SO MUCH over the last 10 years and have almost no way to preserve any of it outside of unofficial KZbin videos. I'm sure it's not high on the priority list for the higher-ups at Bungie, but it truly saddens me that both games could disappear forever as soon as the servers go down. Regarding what you said about power creep, it seems we need another reset like vanilla destiny 2, it was a great way of unveiling a new threat, creating stakes for the story, and decreasing our power to eventually build back up and become stronger. The issue now is that we’ve gotten to a point where we are just far too powerful, and a new enemy completely wiping us out would make no sense.

We know the final episode heresy is taking us back to the dreadnaught. We also know from the episodes trailer that the universal ornament set for that episode is "the navigator", with the thought being "what if you were the one piloting the dreadnaught?". I'm guessing that's how we will leave the system for frontiers. That could even crash it so we can't get back home soft reseting our stuff if needed though that would probably piss a few people off.

I think the plan you laid out makes sense. 3 years of episodes and probably a yearly expansion upto 2028. Give bungie time to release and back marathon and the other game they're developing and then spend like 2026-28 building up D3. In terms of stories we still got: - Xivu to take care of - Savathuns constant schemes - reclaim torabattle for Caital - Reclaim Riis for the fallen - the full process of healing the traveler - all the mysteries of the vex - whats the deal with the nine - possible adventures into parallel timelines - clovis being a madman - the mystery of the winnower - the mysterious light draining monsters drifter once found And I'm sure many more stories and themes that i can't think off the top of my head. -

My take on episodes is it shouldn’t be judged too harshly, atleast echos. When the delay happened everything else was pretty much dropped at the time to work on TFS. That being said the ending was also changed and echos couldn’t start until the end so most likely some story had to be changed in echos to follow the ending. I think revenant will show us what episodes are supposed to be, echos just feels like a time crunch and with TFS out of the way that’s just gonna help revenant and heresy development

Imo Narrative wise bungie has to do what marvel didn't: 1. Slow down and allow time for this conclusion to sink in and develop quality content going forward (Episode Echo is their answer to this) 2.defeating the BBEG should be a major plot point going forward (The witness "Echoes" are a good device for this) 3. Making stand alone good stories with possibly a slight thread connecting them that increases over time (we shall see in the future) Sandbox wise: 1.All classes and subclasses should be brought on the same base level (power wise) and that each can be built in various effective playstiles (If we get stronger make enemies slightly more dangerous)(prismatic shouldn't be the stronghest but the most complex and flexible) 2. Bungie should try to create more varied encounters designs.

I don't think a new Darkness subclass necessarily needs to be anything super insane to try and top Prismatic because Prismatic in its nature is a completely different beast. I just hope it's as interesting and unique as both Stasis and Strand where when they first came out. Either way, this new Darkness subclass would be implemented into Prismatic anyway. In fact whenever we do get new additions to the other subclasses whether they be new aspects, supers, grenades, etc, they'll probably implement some (or at least shuffle some stuff around) of it into Prismatic. Calling it right now though, the last subclass is most likely going to be some kind of Nightmare power or at least whatever power that creates the Nightmares in the first place.

as a player, I feel weird continuing to play the game. I felt really content with final shape and completing the raid. I don't really have much of a reason to keep playing because why do I need more weapons? why should I grind light levels when the shared light level exists? And episodes are going back to the seasons with random plot points that I honestly don't care about. so i feel like I'm kinda done

I think D3 is coming but not soon. If you remember back to the leaker who accurately leaked Prismatic and other story elements of Final Shape, he said D3 is under a codename: Payback and started it's development back around Witch Queen with a super small team and the only concept leaked from that is that D3 is doing away with Classes and now everyone can use whatever they want. I don't remember his name bc it's a bunch of numbers.

The Light and Darkness Saga is over and complete. I wanted to see the final conclusion to this 10 year story for myself and i have been given that ending and it was satisfying. However, my time with Destiny is over now. I got the answers to my questions, the story i was promised, and the conclusions to personal stories tied to the characters i care about the most. If i dont put the game down now, i fear i will be trapped for another Decade

It feels the same way to me as WoW did at the end of WotLK. Since the end of WC3 we were building up to that moment and from then it kind of turned into baddy of the week. I feel that's where Destiny is. IMO the Witness should have been a final raid at the end of the expansion as Arthas was in LK. Eveything was building up to that showdown. I had a Destiny break at the end of Lightfall due to burn out after being around since the start of D1. That carried into Final Shape and now that I know the big bad from the very very start is gone I have no interest in returning. As far as I'm concerned that's a full stop on Destiny. Thanks for the ride and the memories.

I often go back to good old D1 by playing some old missions or simply watch the cutscenes and listen to the soundtrack which was the best ever made imo. Man, everything was magic back then. Now that the saga is over I can't think of any new plot that would match up with the beginning of the light and darkness saga. 2014 brought a whole new story and Universe. They can't do that again. Nothing will ever feel as new as being resurrected in the rusted car cemetry out in the cosmodrome (these memories!!!). I don't want Destiny to become the same as Marvel. But I don't want Destiny to stop either. The seasons/episodes are no good solution. What is actually going on with that Winnower?

I’m kind of into the idea that Bungie should go the complete opposite direction. Step #1 - buff the shit out of the lame perks so it’s impossible to get one that feels like a complete dud (my 5 Dragon + Ophidian dups, I’m looking at you 🤬). Any combo should be strong enough that if you do a build around it becomes S-Tier Step #2 - Increase the possible combos to something stupid high to make target farming infeasible (make any perk able to go into either column 16*15 = 3840 combos) Step #3 - Lean into the idea that your exotic class items are unique snowflake to you and your guardian. You’ll probably never run into another player with the exact same combo so the build you make with them will be unique too. I don’t know, it’d just feel like Bungie gave every guardian a shot of compound V and then seeing the fun/unique super powers people ended up getting.

I feel like the powercreep conversation is being blown WAY outta proportion. On the pve side of things everyone who cares about build crafting their own unique builds will always find something new to play with and the artifact helps keep things fresh. On the pvp side of things: we still have the usual suspects of annoying as hell exotic armors on all 3 classes and the heal helmet on warlock is the ONLY one that has shaken things up on being broken, you're still dying to the same easy as hell to use 140s you've been dying to outside of people who like better devils trying it. You can name literally any 140 that has been meta in the past 2 years at any point and it works well in comp and trials because 1. You don't have to have good aim or positioning to get consistent 3 taps 2. If you want something thay hits harder and has easier team shooting igneous and sturm are right there and finally 3. Despite 120 scouts and bows being dead on arrival the ease of use on hand cannons and bungies fear of people camping with everything but said hand cannons leads to nerfs that kill stuff like bows and most legendary scouts so even with 120 scouts getting buffs they're still getting ignored in pvp and being called useless in pve unless you care about fun in build crafting. Don't get me started on specials like beloved that are OBVIOUSLY a best in slot pick that is way too easy to use that catch ZERO targeted nerfs. My overall point is the more things change, the more they stay the same: pve will always have a goto damage perk that dps junkies gravitate to and pvp will always be a joke of an unbalanced mess.

Great video as always and you touch on some thoughts I've had myself. Re: power creep, guns like No Hesitation worry me because that gun immediately buries Lumina. Why not give Lumina a damage buff and make it useable? Its already unique and cool. NH is a legendary copy of it. Making things redundant doesnt make sense. Just make more guns fun, deifferent, whacky. Ive love to see a Remnant style Bulldog shotgun, create unique melee weapons, not just swords and glaives. Bungie did mention in the second season that the Fallen Barons were master monster hunters and that sounds super fun! Most mini bosses in the game are hydra, cabal legionaires etc. All familiar. Make some totally new enemy types or monsters to go hunt AND make Briggs minotaurs etc more interesting. that would be cool.

In terms of story I think Bungie are set up in a much better position than Disney was with Endgame. The majority of the beloved characters are alive and able to actively participate in what comes next and they've introduced intriguing new mysteries about what these echoes are exactly and what the Traveler is and what it means that it now has both dark and light inside it. The theme of choice and the idea of no longer being bound by the eternal conflict seems to be the theme and, despite my disdain for it's delivery, they are already doing a good job carrying that theme into the story of the first episode. The big question is can they execute whatever they're cooking up for the next saga and that's where I'm more concerned based on their previous inconsistency. Especially with management still in place who only let them really cook when the ship is sinking into the briny deep

As far as subclasses go…how could they NOT release another subclass. Literal days after Prismatic released, players were asking when we were actually getting some NEW abilities. My prediction: We’ll finally get the third darkness subclass (it’s even hinted at in game during the Micah missions) and that third subclass will be incorporated into Prismatic and then eventually no subclasses at all because we will just be able to use any abilities at any time hence the leaks. Expansions? I feel like Frontiers will be the next expansion but it will be a GAME size expansion similar to how we got 4 new locations for vanilla D2. It will be a game, but it will be connected to D2 or a continuation of D2

My thing with final shape is that there just doesn’t feel like a lot of content, feel like I did everything it had to offer within the first 2 days of the dlc, all we got after that was the exotic mission and then a gm excision that I see no point in running more than once, kinda sucks that the only new content to look forward to now is just the season 2.0 stuff. The final shape met expectations but it did NOT exceed them. maybe it’s just rose tinted glasses but I feel like with Forsaken I was doing new content for almost 2 months, not only did we have tangled shore we had the dreaming city to explore after the campaign that had a 9 week ascendant challenge rotation, it offered a secret dungeon too! along with new “hidden” exotic quests (wish ender, Malfeasance) along with the many new exotics to find as well.

TFS didn't have a lot of content. You had the Micah quests, that basically reused a bunch of content already in the game. The cyst activity is new, but no one needs to run that more than once. Class exotic mission is cool, but not cool enough to grind for months. The seasonal model needs to go. Just release expansions with a lot of content.
