I love how, in the base game, Hypno captured Azurill because he was small, which means he could go in the hole. Faced with the same problem, Raticate kidnaps an Onix. A giant rock snake. He probably was planning to force it to use Dig or something, but still. Also, Raticate is very small. He could probably fit in the hole.

To be fair, Raticate does have a higher base stat total than Onix(413 to Onix's 385), and if you look at the dex entries for Raticate, it makes sense why Onix was intimidated into cooperating. Raticate's dex entry for Diamond, Pearl and Platinum says "it can chew apart cinder walls", while the Heart Gold dex says "it can even topple concrete buildings by gnawing on them." Onix didn't want to get eaten by the stronger Raticate! As for why Raticate didn't go in: Raticate is 2 feet 4. Azurill is a third his size at 8 inches. if Drowzee at 3 foot 3 couldn't commando crawl in that hole himself, Raticate is equally unlikely to fit. Onix is a logical choice to send in instead, because all of it's gen 4 dex entries(which is when Explorers came out) say something about it boring or burrowing or squirming through the ground. The hole's too small, they gotta dig a new way in, you get a pokemon that specialises in digging!

Ngl in my game, which was the normal version, just trying to get to Primal Dialga I would get a monster house almost every fucking floor. In the original version. I was a Cyndaquil and my partner was Piplup. Man was I so happy when I finally cleared it. Good thing I packed tons of Reviver Seeds and leveled up quite a bit before getting wrapped in the story mode once it doesn't let you do that anymore, grinding before dungeons.

Man,seeing a primal dialga potrait in the thumbnail fiils me with nostalgia.When I was twelve or so I hacked my PMD sky so that I could be a primal dialga,and it all went pretty well until the post-game missions.During the team charm mission introduction,my game softlocked.What I think happened is that the game tried to pull up a portrait that didn't exist and just froze up.I was devastated at that time since I put so much time into the game but nowadays I just see it as karma for messing with something I don't understand,

Primal Lotad is the best thing lmao Jaiden started a run in this randomizer too, she's a Leafeon and her partner is Deoxys (started with attack form, but then changed to normal and no longer emotes :( sad), and in her run, the Spoink in the first mission was randomized to Clamperl, which is the only other Pokémon that actually fits the mission (THEY STOLE HIS FACE!) since Spoink's pearl is actually a pearl taken from Clamperl. Also, Croagunk in the guild was randomized to Porygon-Z, but like here, the "Porygon" part of the name was randomized, but for her it was Rhydon-Z, and her chat started making "Rhydon-Z nuts" jokes which was the best thing! XD I thought that meant Porygon-Z would always change to Rhydon-Z for the meme, but apparently not, Jaiden just got EXTREMELY lucky with the name. Also in her run, the moves aren't randomized, but the chapter titles and MUSIC are all randomized, like every time there's a screen transition, the music changes, even in cutscenes. You can go from "Don't Ever Forget" to "Monster House!" and then to the silly theme, it's a whiplash sometimes lol but it makes it so much funnier.

strategy for monster houses i came up with as a kid and works pretty well is to push your partner back and walk into the hallway you came in from. doesnt work when you enter on one but being able to take them out one by one when you dont have some shit like heat wave is pretty nice

When you get so many Monster Houses, you have two recourses. 1: realize that the randomizer also adds the "push your teammates" option into the game (allowing you to funnel them into a choke point), and 2: room-wide moves.

Whenever i encounter a monster house i back up funnel them into a tunnel. Water can mess that up but its better than getting hit on every every side. Spawning into a room i usually have an orb of some kind to disperse, escape from, or stun everything. Still, good luck surviving that many monster houses in a row.
