Round two, and Italy travel to face the only side in the Six Nations they've never beaten. So how did they fare, do England look back on track, and why should both teams feel optimistic after their afternoon at Twickenham?

Thank you for this video. You're the only rugby youtuber i know that wants Italy to stay and never criticize even when we deserve it. When we're about to make upset results in the past 5/6 years either we got extremely unlucky, referee decision costed us the game or we started making silly mistakes every time we get into the opponents 22. We are not used to win a match anymore, so fear to win takes control of our players and we come home with lots of regrets. I've watched all the past 29 Italy's defeats into 6 nations, and i found these 5 matches we should have won but we didn't: 2016: France-Italy 23-21 - Inexistent penalty for France at minute 76 penalizing us, failed Parisse's drop goal at the end. 2017: England-Italy 36-15 - We had that game in our hands, but stupid stupid stupid mistakes costed us the game (like discussing with referee while England kicked a fast penalty and scored a try) 2018: Italy-Scotland 27-29 - The best game i've seen for Italy in the past 6 years, at minute 60 without explanations we gave up and gifted Scotland the win (with referee questionable decisions on scottish mauls) 2019: Italy-Ireland 16-26 - A 4 points lead at half time we didn't capitalize for winning fear, scoring 0 points in second half 2019: Italy-France 14-25 - THE GAME WE SHOULD HAVE WON, i really have counted over 20 silly mistakes in decisive moments of the game, at that time i couldn't understand how we didn't win that It seems like every year we got an incredible chance to win a game but basically we just throw that away and gift the game to opponents. But i'm confident, this team is the youngest ever in history, in the last game against France the player with most caps was Sperandio with 8 caps. I've never been so confident for the future. If even this generation will fail, then i'll probably surrender

I think we also have a HUGE problem talking to the referee. I don't know if it's that we have less respect than the others, the language barrier or even our captain's abilities, but we are not taken into consideration on the field. Take this game for example: we receive a penalty because Canna was offside after a kick by Garbisi I think but Sperandio was running to put him back in the game. It's a tactic we already used but I guess the referee wasn't warned (it was his first game in the 6N). That penalty, near our 22, was one of the many penalties that could've been avoided. Like the one with the collapsing scrum when we saw by the camera an english prop leaving his arm on the italian prop. I don't know if it's Bigi, but I really don't think we have a captain that deserves that title. And I don't think Parisse was either, he was respected because he is a very important player, not because he was the italian captain...

I think Italy's best chance of getting a win this year would be against Wales at home. Wales look the worst out of the other 5 nations in defence so that could be their chance. If Italy can go into half time with a lead I can see them pulling off a big upset.
@epsilonbeta4877

@@theultimatesharpshooter6734 In Autumn Nations Cup we played a good match against Wales but i don't think we have a chance. I think we might have a shot against Ireland (no offense to the irish squad, which is brilliant), just for the fact that they risk the wooden spoon if they lose against us. But realistically it's going to be another season with 5 defeats. What i want to see is a freaking good second half, and mental improvements. 2023 RWC won't be an hurry because we are already third (with this France and NZ it's game over before even the game starts), so we can start developing for 2027 RWC and FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY have a decent team that can aim to the third place at least in the 6 Nations and hopefully a quarterfinal in the World Cup.

@@epsilonbeta4877 yeah I agree this six nations looks unlikely, I think we have a huge chance next season with more development for players but also players returning from injury/unavailability : steyn, polledri, licata, campagnaro, faiva, minozzi and more. We will also have Halafihi available for Italy this December if he wants too, just imagine: 6. Steyn 7. Polledri, 8. Halafihi and negri and Meyer on the bench🤩. Also ratuva is available in the summer for Italy too but him being 31 in June I doubt it, but he could still do a decent job in prep for World Cup and during it as a 33 year old - but like you said because of the draw smith is likely to be focusing on 2027

Before COVID I never really watched 6N (maybe an odd Ireland or England game in a RWC year), seeing as I'm a South African and there was always SR to watch, but seeing as our teams are moving north I decided to watch this year and it has not failed to entertain. From what I've seen before this year (compared to what I see now) from Italy, it seems like they've gone from fledgling underdogs with large flaws in either coaching or gameplan to plucky underdogs with minor faults in defence but promising on attack. This won't be their year, and next year might not be either, but if Franco Smith should keep his job after 2023(and I really hope he does), we might in 2024-2027 see a fairly good Italian side

Completly true, the games of italy reflect in all our coaches: Franco should have been the offensive coach under the control of o'shea, who left, so Smith took his place. I think that the Reason we are so interessing in attack is this. The real problems are the absence of high level specific coordinators ( for example shaun edward in france defence) that can allow to increase your performance overall. F.i.r. was blind in these aspects when the home nations did, that the point for me. Now something seems moving, thanks ti Benetton which signed gustard as defence coach and masi for the offence. Mays try was pure class. But like why put an emphasis on so many other aspects like 1v1s in the air when most of the time they’re accidental....... in the case of jumping over for a try, its not the issue, it’s more the fact that, again they put safety measures in for other aspects so it could be argued ‘well jumping high for tries is also dangerous/reckless’. I say just let the game be, people will get concussed anyway. Only one they’re right about is late tackles and no arm clear outs 👍

There were some close calls, Italy were developing and although they aren't there yet it does seem like they can develop into a better team. England did clearly deserve to win despite comments to the contrary, the saracens players are struggling for Form and aren't suddenly bad players. You would of thought Farrel had shagged some peoples misses by the obsession some Rugby fans over him, at most it would have been a penalty let's not pretend he killed someone.

Can we talk about the refereeing? Forward passes on two tries, Farrell hitting the 9, May jumping over a tackle, massive and cynical offside by Vunipola 5m from his own try line ... Even if you don't agree with all of those, the 23 point lead melts away quickly
@tomcads1604

@@ashhartling9713 while most of your points are definitely valid and worth discussing, I really don't see why Willis' injury made your list? Very unfortunate of course, but I don't see any foul play there and neither did anyone else. Farrell's late tackle on the 9 did not need to be a yellow, but it is a penalty and thus should invalidate the interception try that followed. I still can't figure out how you go to TMO and let the try stand ... May's try was a long shot to be cancelled and definitely the one that bothers me the least. If you take out all the tries with a forward passes (2 for England and I'll give the Italian one even though I don't see it), the margin is still a lot smaller when you add 3 points for the penalty right in front of the posts Italy didn't get on Vunipola's offside that killed a promising attack close to the line. I do agree though that England could have been awarded a penalty try for obstruction on the kick chase, even though it would have been pretty severe

As an Irish person I can really see Italy pushing ireland and beating us. Italy on attack have looked really good and with James Lowe on the wing we are extremely vulnerable if Italy work an overlap well like in their first try against England as you said. Along with that Italy have defended relatively poorly out wide and but very well in the middle of the park, and with Ireland playing ridiculously narrow I can't see Ireland scoring high numbers like France and England have. Irish rugby has gone to the dogs in the last 2 and is without doubt the most boring rugby to watch, this boring rugby has won us a grand slam and six Nations titles but now we are found out, our system is predicable and lacks creations and direction, comparing garbessi's heads up rugby to irelands robots is day and night, garbessi will find space and exploit it, I hope not but I can definitely see it happening

I have heard comments about Jonny May being able to jump over the tackler in the corner because he was jumping for the try line ?? I cannot find anything about not being allowed to jump to avoid being tackled in the law of rugby on the World Rugby website. I would be interested to know why this would be considered foul play. Nor about being able to jump because you are aiming for a try. The only reference I find is about not being allowed to jump in Tag Rubgy, law 15.10a: www.world.rugby/the-game/laws/modified-forms/tag/?highlight=jump 15.10 The referee may award a penalty kick to the opposition team where an infringement occurs in the following circumstances: (a) If the ball carrier jumps to avoid being tackled, or spins/swivels through 180 degrees. A side step is allowed. But that's not normal rugby union law. Can someone enlighten me with the law reference please ?

Seems to be a bit of a grey area, honestly. I think the debate would be worth having if May had scored a game-changing try, especially if it were in a World Cup... I agree with Squidge, it's a great moment and the laws are wishy-washy there.

@@joeboonmusic4004 I agree it's a great moment, I just don't understand why it would be debatable in the first place.
