Well, they really acted like Spencer didn't go in interviews back then saying he saw the tape and he also said Lauren's lady parts were huge and ugly (he used other words). Back then, Spencer also said he saw the tape and gave the information to Perez Hilton to make it public and also said that Jason tried to sell the tape so people wouldn't blame him. 🤡 The name of this podcast should be "rewriting stories".

This. I mean watching now, clearly Lauren at times was immature and definitely not blameless. And obviously as the star of the show, she probably got different treatment then the rest. But seriously, they are all so jealous of and obsessed with her. They hope talking about her will get ratings. She has moved way past the show. They all want the fame and money she has. The reboot wasn't successful. They all think they are way more important then they are.

It's very clear this guy interviewed pitched the storyline to the studio. Whether this idea was pitched by Spencer alone or co-produced we'll never know. Laguna Beach was a bunch of young kids who were easily manipulated to have these dramatic storylines which may have been perceived to be "real," to some cast members, including Lauren. I think that Spencer came on the show knowing he was a "reality actor." He essentially produced himself, Brody and Frankie into the cast. The cast has expressed there being blurred lines on what was "reality or produced" and having to ask fellow cast mates/producers for their imput. Spencer, Brody and Heidi were all in on an episode w/playmate drama. A storyline produced by Spencer. Heidi has said she knew it was staged, yet still had mixed feelings at time of shooting w/real life and the shows blurred lines. Lauren's boyfriend at the time, Jason says there was never any tape and didn't seem bothered by the rumor as it was just a fake tabloid story to him. You would think, Lauren would have had the same reaction. Either Lauren had in some context chatted to Heidi about being taped with a past boyfriend or Lauren just wasn't happy about her TV persona which was playing herself on the Hills in this context. Lauren herself has said she was becoming more incooperative with filming in many scenes and with cast mates. It's been said that she refused to shoot with Spencer in the same room and hesitant to shoot scenes with Heidi. The producers wanting to continue this "Reality," facade would have to continue to feed these storylines as truth to get honest reactions and so it was either completely produced by the show or co-produced. Spencer and Heidi weren't hanging out with cast and so they needed storylines. Either Spencer came up with the storyline and pitched it to the guy above who probably said, I can't pitch this without any truth to it or something to that affect and so then Spencer leaked it to Perez making it a real "fake"rumor. Or it was mentioned by Spencer and leaked to Perez by above producer. The studio couldn't then pass up the storyline and didn't care whether Lauren liked it or not. Now Lauren felt out of control of how her persona, "playing herself" was perceived on her own show. She may have known it was all made up for the storyline and it wouldn't be the first time that actors own agencies leak fake rumors to tabloids or give locations to paparazzi for more press. At this point, Spencer and Heidi saw their roles as "reality characters," but alot of the cast had not completely removed themselves from their persona on this show. The producers have said it was just a show to them and they had to produce enough scenes to make their storylines. If Spencer had been given a co-producing title it would have been easy for him to have "pitched the storyline," and there would have been no animosity. He may have even had some royalties coming his way, but it's been said that MTV was really shady and did not pay alot of the talent, while they cashed in. So this whole show was put together in a very round about way and really to the point where added cast members/friends/love interests had to really advocate to get paid and be paid what was due to them for having a hit show. We've heard of them not having allotments for wardrobe, hair or make-up. Ridiculous for a hit show, but not surprising that Hollywood studios, producers take advantage of talent. Anyhow, so Spencer had to make-up storylines to solidify his and Heidi's casting positions and airtime. This is something Lauren didn't have to worry about being the main character and I'm sure having a solid contract. This show was Heidi/Spencer livelihood. Other cast members were getting covers, etc. But since Heidi/Spencer were perceived as villains they weren't getting the same perks. This storyline launched Heidi & Spencer's cast roles in the Hills as indispensable. The fake tabloid scandal introduced in the episode catapulted the whole cast into stardom, negotiating contracts and everyone finally cashing in. It was geniuslly orchestrated, but many still can't get passed the show not being real. The problem was in Lauren's contract. It should have had high stipulations as to what could and could not be storylines surrounding her real life persona, but this was new territory not to mention how reality shows now absolutely run reality actors personas through the mud and willingly. I mean people have sex on reality shows and its not taboo, just to put a sex tape rumor in perspective, but perhaps at the time this was seen as risqué. Similar leaks with alot more at risk have launched reality tv personas and we don't know of the brand deals/offers she may have received due to this hit show status. It is of course possible it was done with malicious intent and everything else was a happy accident. I think it was seen as an opportunity to cash in on tabloid fodder.

No I would be ma regardless of it not being true. My reputation would be at risk, business opportunities at risk, there sure were things said by family and friends asking her if it was true. She was mad that someone who was her friend stabbed her in the back. You have a nice theory but it can be easily put apart. That man sounds more believable than Spencers thousand version, that Spencer who is friends with Perez(he was on the reboot for a reason), that Spencer who admitted to creat his own stories to a degree. The studio would never be as stupid to play with fire with such a story, they had to work it in bc the rumor was out their and bc Lauren stopped being Heidis friend(audience had to know why). Spencer admitted to call paparazzi on himself, he wanted to be famous and would have done anything. If the Hills team would have been involved Lauren would have found out already, there is always someone who talks or she would be close with and that team member would have talked.

what happened to Brodys former statement to Lauren that he knbew for a 100% fact truth that it was Spencer that started the rumour. He was friends with with Perez Hilton and fed him the story, among several others. Perez knew it was fake but still ran with it. Why is there still secrecy around this, it's just stupid. Spencer has even said he and Perez started it..and then later on backpeddled on it. Like come on don't be dumb.
