My Grandfather was a WW1 sniper and had me shooting a small 22 revolver when I was only 7 or 8 and a S&W 38spl when I was 9 & his 1911 when I was 10, without my parents ever knowing of course. I used to spend every other weekend with my papaw and we always went out behind his house and shot a few boxes of ammo where he had a small range setup. I remember later on when my dad which I had shot a nylon 22 rifle with purchased a browning mark 22 target semiautomatic handgun when I was 13 and was going to teach me how to shoot a handgun for the first time. He handed it to me after a 15min safety talk and general trigger control speech and I’ll never forget the look on his face after I put 5 out of 6 rounds in the 10 ring rapid fire. It was priceless and I think he knew then but I never told him I had been shooting with my papaw for 6+yrs by then, I always laugh now when I think about it. Lena has probably been shooting since she was big enough to support the weight of a handgun. Reminds me of my papaw & me

If you don't have a MOS slide, you should try using a sight mount like this first: www.amazon.com/DPP-Titanium-Mounting-Fastfire-anodizing/dp/B07SPT21CC/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=DPP+Titanium+Glock+Sight+Mount%2FMounting+Plate%2FAdapter+for+Vortex+Venom+%26+Viper%2C+Burris+Fastfire%2C+Docter&qid=1589062572&s=sporting-goods&sr=1-1 That will let you try out the RDS without machining your slide or buying a new one, and if you like it you can always go the MOS route later on. Personally though, I stuck with the mount on my EDC, as I don't like co-witness personally (can't help wanting to align sights with the red dot) and it gives me the option to switch back later if I want.

Switched to a red dot about 3 years ago (60) for the usual reason, eyesight. It took about 3 months to get the draw stroke back under control. What cracked the code was trying to pick up the front sight in peripheral vision and drive it smoothly to the target, picking it up early in the presentation. The dot started appearing on the target earlier and earlier. Shooting better now than I was in my 30s... Great video, thank yall. Cheers

Thank you for these tips. I’ve been a firearms instructor since the late 80’s, mostly for Law Enforcement. I’m retired now and am instructing civilians. I’m 62 and the eyes sure aren’t what they used to be. I recently purchased a Glock G45MOS and topped it with a Holosun. I’m struggling. I keep looking for the front sight. Huge learning curve. Having been in an on duty shooting, I can testify that the officer is looking at the suspect, in my case his handgun. I don’t remember seeing my sight but my shots were accurate.

I absolutely love the father/daughter combo. It's so great to see Jerry's knowledge being passed down. Others have commented on their similarities but it's endearing that Lena is so "spunky" while Jerry is so "calm". You can even see at times where Lena is so excited that her hips dance prior to unholstering. You both compliment each other well and it's very cool to see the family aspect. I have to believe there is friendly competition between you two for shooting speed. Any chance you'll share with us?

My dad bought me a 410 when I was 5 and started allowing me to take our 22 rifle by myself when I was 7. My family is Military as far back as I know. He taught me alot about safety and wanted me to grasp my own understanding of being alone in the woods. I practiced on shiners in the creeks and rivers, using no sights, just aim and shoot. First shot was to see how far off I was and second shot was for the kill. I used corks also, but it was a little costly to my behind when my dad found out I shot all his corks. Anyway, I was down at a very familiar creek in the woods, I always waded around in it bc it was so clear. I was sitting on the bank and heard something drop in the water, I thought maybe it was a limb and stayed facing away from the creek. I was just looking down this pipeline and kneeling down. To this day, I dont understand why or how, but I turned instantly and unloaded into a snake(Cotton Mouth) that had curled up behind me. I literally drilled its head into the ground. It was a weird feeling for me at the time. I was about mile in the woods from home, I probably would of died that day. Then again, I may have been able to run. He was close enough to strike, so who knows.

@John Smith well, i was only trained on carbine and hand gun shooting is completely new to me. We were trained to follow the target (yes, you can guess this was army training) and it is very hard wired now. As he said that explains inaccuracy and slower shooting with handgun. Maybe it is also related to range shooting where target is not moving so target tracking is less important than sight tracking. I am not the expert here:)

The advantage of a dot is your eyes can stay focused on the target, and in a self defense scenario, your eyes will focus on the threat

Question: What about on ARs and others with side Iron sights with a Red Dot; is it a good upgrade? Question: Is it easy sight in side sights? I luv you guys! Stay safe! I would be a dream come true to shoot with you. Lastly we could have really have used your training/sight in Iraq!

Maybe run a main red dot + offset red dot (becoming common in PCC, good for certain applications like shooting on the move or around barricades) or LPVO + offset red dot.

Vrealon Handguns are restricted by default, and you can’t take them out into the woods to plink. The only place you can use them is at the range.

I went with my buddy, who's an airborne ranger, to the range a few months back. I remember him telling me about his experiences with different red dot sights. Specifically how he had an issue with some being polarized and not being able to see the reticle while running drills with any sunglasses on that were polarized. Thoughts on this Jerry?
@Fastpassfox
@Fastpassfox 4 жыл бұрын
Specifically thought he was having battery issues because it was happening when he rotated his firearm, this caused the light waves from the red dot to cross the polarity of his sunglasses, which like sunlight, was then blocked out.
