This is probably the most difficult part of building to me. I've had the frets just pop off in other areas when tapping in the fretting. You make it look simple. Maybe eventually it will be simpler to me hopefully. Great video .

More great information! I love the pitter-patter sound of rain on your shop roof! We don't hear that too often down here in Texas.

Hi Del, I bought some control nobs. They have a hole on the side, but no screws, is this normal please

interesting… not sure . sometimes there’s little allen screws to tighten. depends on the style of knob. i’ve seen those before

I think I have mastered back angle, when I build a cbg It makes my life easy when I play it. Remember what you said you don’t hit the box when playing. Great idea, Groovy days 😎

Hello these videos are great. I have decided to use the jumbo fret as a zero fret on the build that I am doing. I have to order some jumbo frets. What is the best size jumbo frets to use that can be used for both 3 string and 4 string CBGs?

Amazing! I do have a a question, does the piezo have to be right under the bridge? And i see that you leave the space between the top of the cigar box and neck, which you carve out by a rasp, but why so? Does it do something to the sound?
@laurabell584 жыл бұрын
I would think that it allows the top / soundboard to vibrate freely for a better / louder sound
@scottadams10614 жыл бұрын
Also I’m sure that if the soundboard (box top) was in contact with the neck without being glued you might get buzzing between the 2 pieces

Del, do yo cover how you make/size the heal of the neck? So based on depth of box, is there a rule of thumb?

Great videos. Question on frets. You don’t need to level and crown the frets? Just making plans to build my first CBG and your videos are so helpful! Thanks, Mark

Genius! I now know that I use too much hot glue when potting the piezo (when I use them). Thanks to you yet again. While we’re on the subject, is there a reason you don’t use rod piezos or preamps?
@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar4 жыл бұрын
I use rod piezo's from time to time... and I LOVE the sound, power and tonal options of a preamp.
@olgreybear79974 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mr Puckett. That’s me decided for the build I’m on now. Single coil and rod piezo with preamp it is then! Do you (personally) pot a rod piezo or just stick it under the saddle as is?

Do you ever install a truss rod in the neck? Is there enough string tension to warrant a truss rod? Whether you use a truss rod or not, do you have much of an issue with necks warping? I know it’s not rocket science exactly, more of a folk art I guess, but I like to build things as thoughtfully as I can. Also, do you ever build cases for your CBGs? Thanks for the videos. I’m planning on building at least a few CBGs for myself and 7 grandchildren when I finish a few other projects.

I have not built cases or used truss rods...yet 😎

Wouldn't it be easier and cleaner to do all,of the fret work etc before staining or clear coating neck/board?
@PuckettCigarBoxGuitar4 жыл бұрын
have you ever tried cleaning clear coat from the frets?? it sucks. I have probably done every 'order' and sequence of events and I don't really have a particular method other than maybe a final touch up... or not.?? Each build is different and dictates HOW it wants to be built. I try to just go with the flow and stay out of the way... :-)

But i can buy six tuners for less than i can buy three. Then i can make two three strings.
@scottadams10614 жыл бұрын
Just keep in mind you can buy tuner sets 2 different ways. Strats and similar electrics have 6 tuners all oriented the same way so you’d get 2 CBGs, both with 3 tuners on top. OR you can buy a set of 6 with 3 left and 3 right hand tuners so you’d get 1 CBG with 2 tuners on top and one on bottom and the 2’nd CBG would have 2 tuners on bottom and 1 on top (opposite the 1’st one). Any way you choose would work you just have to think ahead and plan your headstocks accordingly.
