What I've learned so far after about a year of being in the car community is do your research. But don't do too much! It's a tool, and tools are used to build and destroy things. Do enough to where you feel mildly comfortable, and bring a friend along for the ride. If you're not at least a little scared of a tear down, you're gonna make a mistake.

Number one thing I learned when I started modding my car was: if you can afford to buy a part twice, it might be a good idea to do just that. So far some of my most satisfying mods I've done to my car are the most simple ones, like doing a muffler delete, VHT Niteshading my taillights, adding on some vinyl stickers, and soon will be plasti-dipping my wheels. But even little things like that and little interior things can make a big difference. Even something as small as carbon fiber vinyl wrapping your mirrors and interior plastics can make a huge change to the car's aesthetic without even having to pick up a screw driver!

Taking my time has always helped me out. Also, taking advantage of my days off from my normal day to day job helps out too. Clearing the schedule and making time for a day to wrench is important for me. My car club and other friends in the hobby like to plan days off together so we can all work on our cars and share our knowledge. I am more open minded and have a little knowledge about most platforms, but Mitsubishi and Honda take the cake. Whereas some of the other buddies are only Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota heavy in knowledge. I now have expanded my horizons, I have a 96 Minty BMW Z3 and 01 Corvette C5. My other cars are 07 Eclipse SE = Basic Setup Track Car, 13 Lancer GT = Daily Project and Primary build. I am slowly acquiring the whole front clip of an EVO 10 MR, then swapping everything out, engine, SST Trans, Rear Diff and Axle, etc. of the MR and into my Lancer Sportback to make it an Evo MR Sportback - but I take pride in the GT badge, I will not advertise my car as an Evo nor will I slap on the MR badge.

It will never be perfect or even restored. I just want her mechanically sound, the rest the story and I don’t want to take that from her. Right now she’s parked and covered in a barn. I hope to get her out this summer and change the fuel pump and master cylinder and hopefully convert to H.E.I ignition system. I’ve already had the trans rebuilt, full new exhaust, new plugs and wires. The car still had tires on it that were bought from Sears robuck in 1989 when I bought it.

I have an srt4 pt cruiser and an 88 dodge Omni and I plan on engine swap but first I want to rebuild the engine with forged internals and big turbo. 350-400WHP is my goal so it’s not gonna be that expensive. Gonna take me a while since I’m disabled at 20 and I don’t always have people to help out.

Never cook steaks based solely on time. Get yourself an insta-read thermometer and cook your steaks to ~135*F internal temperature and you'll have a beautifully medium rare or 140 for a bit more medium. Thin cuts like skirt steak is a bit harder to get a temp so I just go based on exterior color.

Hi Alex, I wanted to put a cold air intake on my 4 cylinder. But a friend of mine said no. I have 2000 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder engine. I'm customizing the Camry. The Camry was given to me by my cousin it was his father's Camry. I have almost all led lights on the Camry. To me it looks awesome. I want to put 16 X 7 stock rims on the Camry with 205/55R16 tires on the Camry. I have to use stock rims because I live in a crime area. I got my first stereo system. It may not be much to others but think it's awesome. It has good sound. I do some mechanical work on my own because I don't trust the mechanics in my town. I know it's not a hot rod but it's my car and I'll do what I want with it. That's what makes me happy. That's all. Peace.

My build has been on blocks in the backyard for about 8 months now I was supposed to be installing a downpipe and then when it was off decided I wanted to go big turbo, new exhaust manifold and custom downpipe instead.. Who knew it would take this long to get all the stuff needed to continue with my car.

I wish learning this kind of stuff was more accessible in person. I can watch videos all day but I can guarantee I won't find a single video for my car because no one's trying to modify a Sonic

Isn't is fairly close to a Spark or Cruze? I find looking for related platforms or shared engines in other models helps open up part availability, if nothing else. I actually ended up liking the Sonic, not that I ever owned one.

One more thing: it is quite usefull to actually start by buying the car and give it mainteinance, then fixing it and replacing damaged parts with OEM or universally proven parts that are made to let your car keep going as it was intended or fixing a known problem. Then start the Mods and go slow.

If you was able to afford the car easily, then you could afford maintenance/mods afterwards, if its not the case, why would you buy something that drains your money, and make you broke? Its just a tip, i was 3 years late than my friends to have my license and buy a car, but they're still broke, while i got a lot of money already, because i didnt spend it when i had only enough to live.

Also for steak once done grilling let it rest for at least 5 minutes so the meat can relax, good time to make a salad to go with the steak. Car note: Asked a local shop how much it would cost to turbo my 14 Mazda 6 was told it would cost $30,000. As for my build I just pay a shop yeah lazy but when installing a full air ride I will pay they extra to hopefully have it done correctly.

One thing I learned and I've only done basic things mainly cosmetic Is don't worry about other opinions. I wrapped my bonnet (hood) a bright blue with the help of my grandad. Was a new experience for both of us and we had fun. I got comments saying "why not black?" why a bright colour?..... Because blacks over done and I like it. Just enjoy what you enjoy. Also I really liked a group that was dedicated to one manufacturer which is cool. However when you start looking to change your car don't limit yourself to that one manufacturer to stay in a certain group.
