I wrecked and totaled my Miata a couple of weeks ago. Like an absolute idiot, I let go off the clutch too fast and went down on the gas too hard on a wet rural road. After completing a 360-degree spin accros the pavement, I wound up in a ditch, and a tree finally stopped me. Crunch. You're quite right when you say you're always smiling in a Miata. It was fun right up until the very end. I miss that darn little thing... Probably gonna get another one, eventually.

Owned one for 6-7 years. It was a 95 soft top and probably the best used car I ever owned. Low maintenance and is nightmare free compared to my current project which is my 97 Eclipse GST that I'm 3 years deep with (still love her though). I'll leave this maintenance log here for those who are interested on what had to be done in those 6-7 years. Buy manual transmission so much more fun!!!! Mods (that came from the previous owner): Full racing beat exhaust system, KGB adjustable suspension, and K&N high flow intake Maintenance log: Oil changes (duh) Replaced top and bottom rad hoses and thermostat Valve cover gasket Wheel bearing which I took her to the shop for (about 400 bucks) Spark plugs and wires Some fuses here and there That was it... The car cost me 3k and was well taken care of by the previous owner. These cars are very very easy to work on and are great for people that want to learn how to work on their own car. I highly recommend doing the work yourself rather than getting absolutely donkey f@#@# at a repair shop. Parts are cheap as hell for these cars. Drove her from 100k to about 190k. Mainly short commutes and a few road trips here and there. How did she finally die? A car accident out of all things while I was on my way home from work one late afternoon. Do to the size of these cars, my Miata lost the fight and was completely totaled so be careful. A lot of people don't notice you until its too late..

I remember this being one of the first videos I watched when I decided I was really interested in purchasing a Mazda miata. I had a 2017 Mazda Cx-3 & then decided that I need something that suits me better. I love cruising & I also love traveling. I wanted something fun. I really did my research on the Mx-5 & ended up purchasing a brand new 2019 Miata. It is everything & more to me. Definitely true that “you won’t be able to stop smiling” & “you’ll look away when Camaros & other muscle cars look at you” lol but it’s okay because i’m a female so I feel pretty badass in it 😂. I am now looking into air suspension & getting it wrapped + adding some cool new wheels & rims. I’m so excited. While some may say Miatas aren’t practical, I say that it actually is. When you’re someone who mainly rides solo it’s perfect. I fit all of my groceries in it perfectly as well. Love my car

I’m 17 and bought a 92 Miata after my mom refused to buy a manual car as my first car. She bought me a ‘06 Mazda 3 hatch that is automatic. I saved up money and sold personal belongings and bought my Miata. I bought it with 122k on the dash and a limited slip diff for $850. I’ve owned it for about 8 months and it truly is the highlight of my day. Every time I get in and pop the headlights up I know I’m in for some fun.

This is pretty accurate, I grew up as a die hard Mopar guy, the closest I ever cared for 4 cylinder cars was the turbo dodges of the 80's and early 90's. Then I worked with a guy that has a NA8. I initially made fun of his car because of what it was until he let me drive it. I instantly fell in love with the platform, it's slow but not to the point that it's miserable, and you can whip the wheel any way you want, as hard as you want, and the car will follow. Fast forward about a year and I bought my 1996 Miata. I daily it in the summer and still love it! It gets great fuel economy compared to the other junk in my stable, it's comfortable enough, and I've used it as a truck more than most of the office job dude-bro types use their 3/4 ton diesel pickups as trucks. Mine was stock when I got it but then suffered a blown head gasket (had a coolant hose burst on the highway that I didn't catch in time) so I built a hybrid NB engine (NB1 head, ported, on a NB2 shorblock) and now it's actually reasonably zippy compared to the 120someodd horsepower engine it has. Over the winter it's getting coilovers and 15x8s so I can finally push it harder in corners. TL;DR - buy a Miata, even if you think they couldn't be possibly any more fun than your V8 muscle car

I have an MX5... I don't smile all the time, because everything about being in it reminds me of how many problems it has. It's a '92 btw... apparently there's something about the '92 model, because my bro had one too. Had... it's dead now because it used too much oil. If you are interested in the list of problems: - rust - another day, another rattle - failing radiator fan - curvey wheels (seriously, they're so crooked that if I go through a sharp corner at 40km/h (~25mph) the inside tire will start to squeel). Other, less fatal problems include: - leakey left taillight gasket - a small star (literal translation from the Dutch term) in the front windshield in front of the driver's view - rattling gear knob (AEM Momo knob, feels great, but rattles like a maniac). - ripped leather seats - ripped steer cover - small rips on the surface of the softtop - pits in the bonnet ('bout 5 of the little buggers) caused by a hail storm - driver's side window (LHD) doesn't go down - radio doesn't turn on - no AC - a layer of dirt and grime on the boot that is so thick that the bootlid is a different colour from the rest of the car - oil pressure sensor doesn't work flawlessly (because I'm pretty sure it's not okay for the gauge to say "0kg/cm2", when you actually have a tiny bit more oil than said to be max) and trust me, the amount of oil that's in it now is fine... it's survived having 8 litres of oil in the sump (3.6l is max) However... on that one rare day that the sun shines in Holland and the car doesn't rattle, squeek or squeel and there's nothing to remind you of how quickly your happy looking (tbh, I actually think NA looks a bit more angsty, kind of like if someone told an offensive joke but you've got to stay on their good side) MX5, Miata or Roadster can be taken away from you. Then, you'll be happy you've got one. The day you simply don't have to care. That's when you'll be smiling. Tip; if you are a college student (as I am) and you are looking to buy a car because it's cheap, don't get a Miata. Yes, taxes and insurance are cheap. Yes, the purchasing price is relatively cheap. But don't get me started on repairs. If I'd sum up the cost of all the problems my NA has, I'd have to spend roughly €4000 (~$4500) to get it sorted. The car itself cost me €2250 ($2500). I only had €4000 to spend on both the car and college, so right now I'm just hoping to not have to sell it, because I'd actually be better off keeping it for the duration of college, rather than selling it now to buy something i should've bought, like a Renault Twingo or a K10 Nissan Micra. Have I mentioned fuel consumption? Advantages I can think of? You won't have to brake for corners unless there's a car in front of you, and you have a good excuse to not use your car if you hang out with more than 1 friend. Parking is easy too, I park cars at a Mazda dealer as a part-time job, and generally I prefer hatchbacks because you can see the end (which you can't in sedans and coupes), but you can easily see where the car ends. Long story, I know. Kudos if you've read it all.

I can never stop smiling in my 91' BRG it is a little beat and has a rebuilt title but it was 2 grand and has 130k miles. Never gave me troubles. I do brakes and fluids myself. Such a fun little car.

After months of dailying a miata, I currently cannot wait to get rid of it. The size of the car has really gotten to me i guess, and I just yearn for something bigger once again 😂. The size didn’t bother me until after 4 or 5 months. Other than that, the car handles amazing, and its hilarious to wink at other miatas using our pop ups. Im glad the community is still alive for these cars and i feel like anyone who un ironically truly hates on this car is taking themselves a little too seriously

Personally, I have always smiled in my Miata, Besides the time when it was pouring rain and my entire drivers side floor was flooded and I had to drive like that to school with my feet absolutely soaked. To "So you want to buy a MINI Cooper S (R52S, R53)", well it's already too late. The ones are in good shape aren't for sale (owners want to keep them) and those are for sale, most of them didn't get well maintained. So, in the end, if you buy a R53/R52S, it will be an expensive project.

I have 2 miatas atm, a 1990 mk1 1.6 import, fully stock, not restored, zero rust (in the uk) and then I have my daily which is a mk1 95' uk spec, meister R coilover, sparco spring buckets, advanced fuel and timing, full stainless decat system with a high flow 4-2-1, on white rota Grid V 16x8 215/40/16 tyres, flared arches, hard top, big wang all the spoilers tbh, excedy race clutch and lightened flywheel, running about 140bhp, I loveeee here to bit, never failed to make me smile, never let me down, just handles so fucking good! Yes if you want one, buy one and fall in love with them!
