I think it just hit a really hard time where they're now more rusted due to time, and because of the internet there is far greater exposure so everyone wants one. Initial D has been around for half as long as the 86 has existed for, yet it's only in the last decade that the prices have soared. The same decade where KZbinr content about the cars becomes highly sought after, facebook groups are created about the car and the owners realise they can constantly up the price as time goes on and the number of them out there dwindles whilst demand grows.

@@leejk3926 my 86 was brought to Hawaii from Japan in 1984 sold on Christmas Day from Toyota Honolulu dealership! It’s got all the rust but she’s still sturdy and strong! I’m battling with time trying to find parts and doing minor bodywork till I can afford an overhaul! The car will cost about 40grand to really do it right !

Ae86 owner here! To me is the car worth the “tax” Yes, it’s the fact I’m driving the hero car from the anime I group up in high school watching. The car ain’t fast, the car doesn’t have features but that’s the best part, you are the most important part of the car. It’s a drivers car. Parts are expensive but it’s okay, it has road noise it’s easy to steal but at the end of the day if you have the money and your like me you’ll do everything in your power to buy one.

Really like the icon that is the EA86, but I would probably try to get my hands on a E45 M3 instead (if they are around the same money, importing cars from lets say Japan to Sweden is probably hella expensive). Yes i like initial D, but I could make a e46 M3 in to a Need for Speed Most Wanted M3 GTR replica. It is sort of weird who i feel more and more obligated to make one of those, maybe a better idea to start with a e46 330ci instead of a M3. Hear me out, putting a cutting wheel in a M3 feels wrong, so a none M coupe wouldn’t that be a perfect starting point? Maybe drop in a Volvo B5244T5 engine and tune it to around 400 to 450Hk, I can’t imagine how many people I could piss off by doing that, maybe a frankenstined B6254F with B6304F head, B5234T pistons and a big ass turbo would be a better idea..... (still says Volvo on it)...

it has more weight and higher performance from more engine power than the na and nb models, so it’s less like a miata but that’s just my guess

Because bandwagon, some people don’t know why they hate, they just do. Same reason why everyone praises the ae86 but calls miatas, altezzas, civics, brz’s etc slow af in every comment section

@@stefan_4508 All of those cars kick the 86s ass. Especially the Altezza, who's 1st Gen had an option to get the 2JZ-GE, the naturally aspirated version of the legendary 2JZ-GTE. Civic SiR & Type R are definitely fast for their time. Miatas are supposed to 'slow' but compensate with their lightweight. Like i dunno why people keep sucking off an RWD Ecobox, but then disregards actual sports trims in cars as slow.
