How I joined the foodservice repair industry, and how you can too. This is such a rewarding and satisfying career. Yes it has its ups and downs, but what career doesn't? For more information you can get ahold of me on all my social media or at commercialkitc...

I started working for a company servicing tankless water heaters for Texas Roadhouse, Red Lobster's, Jaggers, Bubba's, and other commercial restaurants throughout the US. It was basically doing pm flushes with vinegar on all tankless and a few installs on the water corroded ones. I've worked on Rheem, Rinnai, Noritz, Navien water heaters. It was never a boring job. I swapped the internal parts: fan, blower motor, t-stat, board, pressure valves, remote controller. I had to make sure the dish tank temp was @180 degrees and that notorious PRZ gage was within range. I was able to install check valves with the pro press, install GRUNDFOS pumps, and change out the neutralizer rock that is on the very bottom which all the residual water flows out through. Now this is all done in the mechanical room so there's no distractions at all. Like he said there's a little of everything on the job. Electrical, plumbing, exhaust, diagnostics, maintenance, checking water pressure on outside RPZ, reading manuals, calling the master plumber for direction, taking pictures, updating work orders on laptop, talking with EcoLab, GM, while being professional. Now when fixing the other cooking equipment, some of that has to be done while there are 20-30 people running around cutting vegetables and cooking. This is a must when testing all water valve to make sure it has proper flow even in the front of the restaurant. The name of the game is to be KooL and not be distracted. When you turn on the hot water to the restaurant that's been down, they look at you like your Superman. It's one of the most rewarding feelings ever and better than any desk job in my opinion. The traveling, meeting new people, and sleeping in a different hotel was the best part. If you get into this field, you will sleep good at night because you move from one job to the other. If you love to learn and work with your hands, then this job is for you. Make sure you save your Per Diem money and this is a perfect job for a single man who wants to save money and have an awesome career. Awesome video! This brought back many memories. What state are you located in? Even though it's been a few years; I'm thinking about jumping back in as I reside in Michigan. Thanks for sharing!

I have always been big but all the food customers offer me have not helped me any! But it is a rewarding job through and through especially when you get to be the hero and fix a problem that could make or break someone's day.

I just applied for a job at general parts group. But after I applied and read reviews and got discouraged because of all the bad reviews. Then I stumbled upon you and this channel and you said you worked there. You seem pretty happy with it so im not as discouraged now. I don’t have any experience in this field. I’ve worked in factories my whole life, mainly injections molding. But I want a change from the factory life and this field seems interesting and exciting. Is there any thing you recommend to help someone like me get in with a company with no experience? I do work in maintenance so I’m mechanically inclined I would think this is a plus.

@@StardustDrgnfly I was working at the LA branch and management wasn’t really present, every time you had questions or concerns they would never answer the phone or hear from till a couple of days later, when I was “training” they had me rolling with two different techs that were basically new(6 months-1 year in the company) that didn’t know much and didn’t really want to teach just cause they didn’t really know what to teach, I was promised I was going to get sent out to training facilites in Ohio within 3 months of getting hire and I got sent out 1 year a later, secondly they told I was going to get put on the “On-Call rotation” after fundamentals class, I was put on the rotation within 4 months, way before I even attended fundamentals class in Ohio, when it comes to tools needed they provided the most budget ones and they expect you do the job even if you don’t have the necessary tools, overall I would not recommend.
