Newby soaper here, and love your tutorials. How far in advance do you mix your titanium dioxide and what is the shelf life? Or are your making several batches the same day you mix the titanium dioxide? And do you mix with oil or water?
@TreeMarieSoapworks5 жыл бұрын
I use it up pretty quickly, so I don't worry about shelf life. Earlier on I stored it in the fridge. I mix 1:3, TD to olive oil. I don't like mixing with water because when it is introduced to the oils, it doesn't want to mix very readily. It needs stick blended in and that causes acceleration. When mixing it in oils, you can just stir it in. 💖

Or, did you use the total recipe amount. I hope you can understand my question. I subscribed to your channel a long time ago and recently have more time to actually take in what your doing.. wow. I love how technical you are.
@TreeMarieSoapworks5 жыл бұрын
Hi Christine, yes, I calculate for the small percentage I poured. I helped Elements Bath Body develop a colorant calculator. I made a video to explain it. Let me know if you have any questions. Is real Rose scent hard to work with? I understand Rose essential oil and even Rose Absolute is expensive, but it seems to me one could easily use Rose water to scent the soap and use a water discount for the amount you add. I've had a hard time finding real Rose soap. It's like everyone thinks Rose soap is over done, so it's never done.
@TreeMarieSoapworks5 жыл бұрын
Since this FO was floral, I expected it to accelerate, but it didn't at all. I don't think it smells like rose though. It's floral/fruity. You could use the rose water. 😊

I usually do for 45 minutes or so on medium, but if the room is warm, you don't need to go that long. If there is milk, beer or honey (anything with sugar) in it, it will heat up, you can lightly cover, but keep an eye on it.

I saw your video very interesting. I have a question. What should I do if I can't get a sodium lactate? If Sodomlactite is the role of making soap hard, it is said that Stearic Acid makes soap hard, too. May I use it?
@daniquem.25105 жыл бұрын
Hi there, you don't need to add sodium lactate to soap for it to harden. Soap will harden on it's own, the more hard oils/butters you use the harder the soap gets. Sodium lactate is used to help the bar harden faster and just a bit more than regular soap. This helps to unmold the soap faster. I never use it and my soaps are generally ready to unmold within 24-48 hours, they're hard enough to unmold and after curing they last a long time. I use about 50% hard oils/butters but sometimes more or less. Hope that helps :)
@louisdepointedulac30725 жыл бұрын
호롤롤로 beeswax also helps, no more than 3%. A bit of salt premixed in the water before adding the lye does the trick, too. Kaolin clay, too.
@TreeMarieSoapworks5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you certainly don't have to use it. And you can dissolve salt (1/4 tsp per pound of hard oils is the ratio I heard) in your water before you add your lye. 😊
