Using dish soap on the edges of your lawn, and other brown spots, is an easy way to allow more water into the soil to turn the brown grass green.
I LOVE doing lawn stripes, check out my lawn striping playlist:

I put a cup of concentrated dish soap in an Ortho sprayer, top it off with water, dial in an appropriate rate and then spray grass edges and dry spots in my yard.

I had a slip and slide out for the kids and used a bunch of dish detergent to make it slippery for them. Now my St. Augustine grass in that area is all brown and dead looking. Do you think that it will grow back green?

Geez! People for goodness sake! I know most of you, "chemical" guys, unfortunately don't have a damn clue about what you're doing! In fact if you guys had any clue about it. Wouldn't be doing it in the first place! Period. It's that simple! Bacteria and fungi are the ones making the hard work of keeping things alive... Proposing killing them, sounds (add your expression here). ;-) Yes, you can use the soap/shampoo as a "band aid" treatment! So use it in low concentration. Although over time as ANY "chemical" approach to soils. It will need more and more, but the effect will be less and less! In fact apply too much and you'll kill your grass! That's a good tell tale of the entire argument! Time to say. Oops! Welcome to modern day farming! Ring any bells?! LOL :-) "Treat" the affected area(s) by adding a light amount of a decent organic compost!! Yep! The microbiology will take care of your soil. It's not a "next week end" solution! But a more sustainable and over time less intrusive (less work) solution! Introduce the right biology in there and the soil, will work for you! Instead of you working (to mess up) your soil! Cheers

Hyperbolic, maybe you mean hypo- and hyperphilic. Hypo-without, Hyper-with taking in lots of water. An biology term I learned years ago. Though it was mainly associated with cells.

It's the fact that your watering more. Too much soap can kill your grass. And other plants at too high of a volume.

Grass Daddy I put down urea a few days ago at a very low rate and it is responding well. Next week I'll reapply but slightly heavier. My first app was on my spreaders lowest setting. On another note I've always mowed at 4" but I'm down to 2" now and really liking it. Thanks Connor Ward for giving me the itch...now I'm thinking of leveling with sand in the spring...but I probably won't go much lower since I don't want to be committed to mowing 3x a week...but those toro greens reel mowers sure do look nice!!
