Back around 2012, I had the privilege of dining at a restaurant/ cafe run by a nice elderly German lady close to Omarama airfield. While there I got chatting to a German glider pilot (I think the Europeans come for the summer gliding). I asked him what the furthest he flew, he told me Stewart Island and back. 😮.

we have parashutes, but considering modern sailplanes are made entierly out of carbon fibre you are more likely to get unconsious bevore the wing gets overloaded
