Thanks for posting. "I don't always know what I'm thinking or how I feel." Wow. I can relate to this. And it's taken some time to be okay with it. I'm sure I've caused myself some damage from all that I 've done, for so many years. There were times when I couldn't even speak but my mind would be racing. That's not escaping anything, that's being trapped. I knew I was trapped for so long and I stayed there until I was sure I would die. 8 years ago I asked for help. I knew I would miss my friends, my life was going to be different. And it is. My mind still races and I don't always know what it's telling me. Sometimes it makes me doubt myself and ask is it okay to feel okay? Shouldn't I feel doubt? And what should I do with it? But I make it through those times, sober, even if I'm not sure how. And that's okay.

Carrying the message! SRV opened the door for many! I can't help fantasizing if any of the big three got sober and talked about it openly/ All were members of the 27 club. Hendrix. Joplin. and Morrison. All were rich, famous, and had unbelievable talent. All went out hard and young. Alcoholic and addict teens like me WORSHIPED these folks. Thank God I found the true God through AA before I ended up like my idols. I still listen to their music. It still moves me. Now more than ever!!

Coors will do just fine without your contribution..:))...me over 30 years sober. When I went to rehab, the first 24 hours were the worst. You are way past that. It gets easier everyday. Do not fall into the trap of drinking because of some tragedy. Trust me it will only make it bigger and worse. find your natural highs and enjoy them...

I've been sober for almost 13 years now I drank for about 40 years lost everything I had many times over my last rock bottom I found myself homeless jobless and friendless in the Bay area it finally hit me that if I didn't get sober and get it together I would be destined to live the moment I was currently in I had absolutely nothing buy the grace of God I found a detox center and from Thier I went to a sober living house AA meetings 3 times a day then did 6 months at salvation army after that 18 months at a Christian program I was busy all the time made goals got a job read the Bible all the way through and keep going to meetings I look back on my journey and realize it was all the wrong things I did that got me to right place that I needed to be I kept going down the wrong road and God would give me a detour and I'm greatfull for that. Life is good today and I appreciate every little thing. Thanks for letting me share.

And when you hear he was in AA and he was able to admit he couldn't beat his addictions alone, it empowers me to feel it's not weak, it's strength, and I can do it too. I've let up on meeting because I let my job come first and believe that my job is a reflection of my soul. He said he was expected to "know stuff on his own". Met SRV in Adelaide Sth. Australia in March 1986. a beautiful Human. I am a life long guitar player and with a life long battle with Alcohol and Class A's. detoxed and went straight to rehab in August/September '86. fallen off the wagon more times than i care to remember. but Ive been off the Alcohol and for quite a few years and off the Smack for 20. Musicians, when giving ALL they got, Die a little with every performance. anyway after 1000's of AA meetings I slowly learned some tools to cope with the obsession and cravings. NO, it aint easy BUT the trick is NEVER give up trying. They promised in AA that the best is yet to come and if I continue to be compassionate , empathetic and Loving......Good things are waiting around the corner. Peace Brothers and Sisters.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was and still is, a hero for many alcoholic's, and drug addicts. He was a gifted musician. A great talent!!! A humble and kind man. I don't understand why he was taken from us, when he was still so young. I watch him on u-tube playing in live performances, and it feels like he's still here with us. He lives on in our heart's, through his music and in his interview's. He was a soulful man, and it would have been great to have known him as a personal friend. We love you Stevie.🙏❤️

I've been a tremendous fan of SRV since I was about 14 years old and somehow didn't across this in my 30 years of listening to anything I could get my hands on related to Stevie Ray. That that I'm in my mid 40s, this video has much more meaning than it did when it was made (early 1990, or so I estimate based on his comments). James I just want to say that I think you are doing a great job and a great service to others ! I was was doing AA in a very small town in Hawaii where I live . I think the biggest crowd we ever had was like 8 people ! Anyway... with the pandemic... no more meetings. Oh and only 2 meetings a week... the other was NA....and all the same people . I see NA and AA as pretty much the same thing. It's all about substance abuse and alcohol IS a drug ! I hope no one jumps me for this point of view. I have actually seen people get in heated arguments over this snd other silly stuff that really detracts from everyone's main goal....to be clean and sober ! Anyway your channel helps a lot ! And the purists or traditionalists or whatever they are who have a be in their bonnet ( to use a more mild analogy than the first one I thought of !) Well maybe those people should realize that the speakers who do not hide their identity but who are famous people are really going to be much more viewed and attract more viewers. What if some newbie kid get's his or her first taste of AA because they wanted to hear it from SRV ? Or Clapton? Or Anthony ? Hey these guys are heros to me and it reeled me in as Im sure it did others ! And Im sure they freely allowed their names being used or these vids would be removed in a minute . Its about saving lives people. That should be the bottom line.... whatever it takes.... within reason. Different times call for different measures. Thanks for your service James !

Of sobriety under my belt.I am using the speaker option so I don't know how this is going to come out but it's better than typing haha. I responded to that pop up regarding the 30-day pledge for sobriety with the daily emails and so forth.I already signed up for it and I'm glad that I saw thatone of my biggest stumbling blocks in trying to maintain sobriety is my lack of personal focus and I need reminders on a daily basis.I already passed that on as well as your channel to friends out here in the country where we live because we have no meetings anymore.so thanks to you we are getting help from two different sources and I'm very glad that I found your channel and I appreciate it all very much so! SRV has been my hero ever since I heard him play Little Wing when I was about 12. He inspired me to pick up a guitar and I’ve been playing for 11 years now. I was damn certain that I’d already heard every recording of him talking, read every article or book about him, Ive read or seen every interview, I’ve listened to every song even the shit quality bootlegs, and I’ve seen every video of him in existence BUT... I had never heard this, and this is the best recording of his voice ever. He’s still inspiring me by how honest and raw he is here. Running across this video is once again my higher power talking to me through another person. This tape was exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you.

This July 1st, will be 4 years of actual, legit, hard earned sobriety. Narcotics were turning me into someone I didn't want to be. Although I was facing it alone, hiding it from everyone, poorly, fortunately I had enough sense to listen to the alarms in my head. I was leaning on other things for the first 4 years, other drugs & alcohol, but I couldn't run forever. I always thought I needed something extra to function. But I function better than ever without ANYTHING. Weird to find out in the end, but pleasant, I can sit here & just let my thoughts race, panic, wondering if I need something to help push through feelings, but the panic passes pretty quickly, to the point where it's laughable after it passes... We don't get to enjoy our sobriety for very long, if we were especially hard on ourselves in our years of destruction. Like Stevie, I feel like something is wrong, like I cheated somehow, but as time passes, & my body grows even stronger, I wonder if this fear of physical consequences is something that will pass too? Maybe I can be normal like everyone else.. Have to try to live well to find out I guess. Ugh I'm such a selfish douche lol... After listening to that honest speech from SRV I made a long winded comment about myself. I'm everything that's wrong with social media lmao..

kudos soberjames for providing these, and I can imagine other resources. in response to any concerns regarding anonymity, most of our AA experience includes speaker meetings, whereby we place superpower capacity into the hands of another alcoholic-higher power, the sponsor-sponsee continuum, God works in mysterious ways, how or why should fame or notorioty limit or enhance one's propensity to identify with a speaker and receive an important message keeping the listener sober just for today or for the moment

I’ve been seeing a lot of these on my YT feed lately. It occurs to me that it’s called Alcoholics Anonymous for a reason. We don’t advertise or blow our own horns, especially in the press, radio or film, and by inference, on the internet. I’m glad these celebrities got sober, but it’s a fact that, after a lot of them get sober in AA and brag about it on tv, they relapse spectacularly, and the public gets the impression that AA doesn’t work. I’ve been sober for 32 years, and have pretty much seen it all. Celebrity ego has no place in recovery. Just stating my opinion here.

I want to thank you for this wonderful talk that you shared. But I will ask you to do one thing or suggest it, read the book out AA comes of age. There were reasons for that tradition. There are reasons for all the traditions. If we forget our history, I think will be in trouble. I agree with what you're doing and I'm not bashing you.
