One of the best Dark Rides I have ever been on, And came out in the great 1980's!
@linasithlady73775 жыл бұрын
This dark ride is inspired by A Thousand and One Nights, Sheherazade. Mechanically it is basically one giant musicbox, where everything is finely tuned to move at the exact time. Pretty amazing work in the 80's.
@1849ad2 жыл бұрын
A Thousand and One Nights, Sheherazade, is Inspired by THIS ride, like most of Disneys rides. The Efteling is at the foundation of Disneyworld, and Disneyworld would have looked a whole lot different, if it would have existed at all, without the Efteling.

In this case; you visit Fata Morgana, 'the forbidden city' as an uninvited guest, now apparently popping up in the middle of the jungle. In the end you wonder: was it real, did I escape, am I dead, or was it just a Fata Morgana? Was the wizard at my side? (Cause in the end he sends you to the light shooting 'snakespider'). So something about the name. Fata Morgana describes a phenomenon at sea that’s essentially a mirage on the water. I don't get it, is there a story here or is it just "look at the middle east"?

Efteling doesn't use explicit storytelling in their darkrides: 'use your imagination'. It is another culture than Disney. It is al about creating an ambiance, taking inspiration from Anton Pieck's drawnings about 1001 Arabian Nights (and also the first Efteling designer).

Pirates of the Caribbean (beginning part, treasure room, dungeon/jail part, etc.) meets Spaceship Earth (the "Middle Ages"/Islamic scholars/Renaissance scenes) meets Jungle Cruise/El Rio del Tiempo (beginning and end forest scenes and market) meets It's a Small World (long load and unload platform room with big ramps).
