This is great Chris. I've been wondering how stamina works and this is perfect. I'll definitely be implementing this into my project.

Would work well for your project. Could even translate to your instant results if you wanted to roll a lot of dice.

Finally able to finish the game. Leicester City dominated and won 2-0 with Mahrez scoring in the opening minute before Vardy scored on a rebound in the 19'.

Something to consider is putting your best defender (most qualities) in the 5 slot regardless of shot/assist stars to win those rolls of 6 (head on) against opponents top striker. Striker wins that one, could use a individual effort to get a good chance a scoring if he/she is sporting 4 or 5 stars. Ruth for LC has 6 and would be a stopper, would force at least a decider die roll on all head on's. Maybe against a weaker opponents would move him up to slot 4 due to stars but really like him stopping shots. Use similar method in developing starting lineup except if your a "check" on start and fail the roll, you are out for the game, no bench. These guys typically start or rest, always exceptions but that is how it seems to me. Bench is blanks and X's. Maybe if you want them to have a chance at sitting on the bench then roll D6 with a 6 to be on bench otherwise rest'em.

Hi Robert. Thanks for the comment. Yes, your strategy makes a lot of sense. I tend to put the better defenders (square wise and qualities) in 5 and try to think them as center backs where 4 are more your left/right backs who like to get up the field offensively a bit more. Yes, understand your idea as well. I have found sometimes that I'm unable to field a full bench of 7 if I start excluding people, which isn't very realistic either. Might experiment with your variation. Ultimately, there really isn't a wrong way of doing it. More to suit your personal taste but I do find that this at least makes the # of starts a player gets, realistic.

the 7 bench players is tough, if you go with actual lineups, the bench is filled with players who never see the pitch. Have thought about reducing that to just 4 bench players plus backup keeper. A defender, forward and a couple of mids.…..

I try to keep it like real life to have a 7-man bench. I will sometimes use safe cards to mimic reserve academy type players who don't have a card.

What happens if you don't have enough players after rolling for starting positions?

I will usually fill in with safe cards and pretend they are "academy" players who get the opportunity.

As promised in the video, here's a couple links of how to find the real life lineups if you choose to use that method. www.football-lineups.com is my favorite although www.soccerway.com is also a very handy site. For this specific game, the real life lineups can be found at www.football-lineups.com/match/214647/.
