But Hindu Punjabis and Muslims punjabi don't want to leave india and Pakistan, so we Punjabi Sikhs can't force them to follow us. Hindu Punjabis, who had deserted Punjabi language in 1951 and 1961 census by declaring Hindi as their mother tongue would never support a Punjabi nation state. They support a Indian state based on the Hindu religion. Similarly, Punjabi Muslims of Pakistan dont support Punjabi nation state either. They support Pakistan state that is based on Islam religion. Similarly, Bengali Hindus don't support Bangla nation state Bangladesh and want to live in India which is based on Hinduism. So Punjabi muslims, Punjabi Hindus, and Bengali Hindus are free to stay in their respective countries based on religions. But similar to Bangla Muslims of East Pakistan, who created Bangla nation state Bangladesh without Indian Bengali Hindus, Sikhs have the right to create Azad Punjab (a Punjabi nation state) without Punjabi Hindus and Punjabi Muslims. As simple as that. We Punjabi Sikhs have no problem living in a Punjabi Muslims or Punjabi Hindu majority Punjabi nation state. The Punjabi speaker population of Muslims is around 10 crore. Punjabi speaking population of Hindus is around 3 crore (Punjabi Hindus in Punjab, Himchal, Haryana, Jammu and Delhi). Punjabi speaker Sikh population is around 2 crore. Hence Sikhs would be minority if both Punjabi muslims and Hindus or either one of them come form a Punjabi nation state with us Sikhs. But their radicals minds prefer religion over their nationality and they love to give up their Punjabi nationality and adopt Hindi and Urdu nationality in order to create a state based on their respective religions. So when Sikhs alone form a Punjabi nation state, it would automatically be a Sikh majority Punjabi nation state called Khalistan. What's in the name? You can name it whatever you want. But in practice it would be Khalistan just like India is a Hindu rashtra in practice regardless of its official name or regardless of its constitution..

One point you are missing here. The combined recruit from ex-punjab (Haryana, Himachal and Punjab) is still 20-30% of all recruits. Before the division of state, the data is of the whole combined Punjab. Right now when data mentions Punjab, it only mentions the 1/3 of Punjab left. Also a lot of Punjabis who migrated to different regions in India after partition are also recruited. Combining all it will show Punjabis are still heavily recruited in the Indian army.

Insightful.. this also explains the high representation of Punjabis in Pakistani Military. But another point to consider is to zoom in further.. while most of Punjab is fertile and benefitted from the Irrigation systems, some areas near plateaus are still depended on rains for their agriculture. These districts have far greater trends towards army recruitment since they do not have many other opportunities even in agriculture. At least in Pakistan there are a few districts from Punjab which have a high representation in army as compared to others, these areas are mostly dependent on rainfall for their agriculture. And once a trend sets it it continues for several generations

Something I want to add when you talking about Punjabis in British Indian Army.....they compromise of Sikh, Muslim & Hindu Punjabis and when India divided most of the Muslim Punjabis are gone on to join Pakistani army and it was its core ...so after Independence percentage of Punjabis in Indian Army already decreased.....then After independence of India they maintain big share in the Indian Army.....until recently in last 20 years it declined

This is my personal experience One day I am returning from tatanagar ,in Marine drive I met an accident,I collapsed with bike rided by Punjabi boys bike stuck in my front bonot .All other people around stated bullying me as a am a car rider . Those Punjabi boy stood up and told it was my mistake and told me to take care for further journey. Love you Punjabi for there loyalty. Best thing is that non of us is injected.
