I have a close friend who lived abroad for years, then came back to India because he was homesick even after so many years. Now, here's the twist, after living in India for 2 years he realised that his life abroad was better and wants to go back. Moral of the story: insaan kahin khush nahi rehta, grass is always greener on the other side. So jahan ho khush raho, move kar rahe ho toh wahan khush rehne ki koshish karo. Baaki life is all about struggles. You'll struggle in India, you'll struggle abroad as well. Embrace it and change your mindset first. Life is not gonna be all hunky dory all the time🤝

I have studied in India but I have worked in couple of Gulf countries and now in Ireland. One important thing what you missed is the attitude of the youngsters. We had been driven in our society that do the work what you have studied so and so. I work as lead engineer and I interview student engineers who come for internship, graduate engineers, mid level and senior engineer as well. You can see these students start working when they are 15 and they never have a feeling that I need to do 'this' job only. Even if they are well educated they take breaks, do any jobs like bartender, mechanic, waiters and they are happy with it. But Indians never work until they finish graduation and depend on parents. Even parents don't allow them to work if they wanted to because of emotional and "what ppl will say' issues.Basically no life skills are there. This is the root cause for all depression and problems.

You and your honourable nobel laureate economist are wrong on so many ways. But let me not clutter you with all those facts at once and just mention one. @@AbhiPatel-pb9ppWhat does spending money have to do with quality of education? Quality doesn't come from throwing money. It comes from knowing what quality education is. Our government departments responsible for education are run by outdated uncles and aunties. They learnt some old-fashioned methods and can't see what's wrong with them. How will quality improve? A very good education can be given at a very low cost, but only when you know what a good education is.

@@bavarianmotorworksbmw5064you are partial right our education system is good but the way it is portrayed is wrong. You said that student is problem not education system but main problem is competition. It’s like the one who gets first rank is great and others are not great but skills matter a lot. We can see it in undergrad level but not at the point where selection of undergrad takes place. Marks matters not rank. If a student gets 95 marks he should feel happy but he checks how many people got more marks than him, if many people get more than 95 he will feel depressed because of our faulty education system and societal pressures. To avoid this kind of system grades are implemented but it is not that effective even in current scenario. Also teaching should be application oriented even during undergrad which is not taught by many universities.

I left India 8 years back just because I got selected in a company. Since 2015 a lot has happened. Living far away from my family, struggling, not able to see them more often, missing important events... it's just not for me. I am going back to India this year. Actually I realised a bit late that I have a wonderful life in India, full of nice people. Without thinking much I left home and I terribly miss my important people here, every single day😑 1. My parents are getting old and I want to be with them. My brother is my best friend. I want to travel places with them and celebrate important events with them. 2. I have some really nice friends and I want to connect with them once in while, just to have some long unfiltered meaningful talk. 3. I have okay amount of saving and okay-ish career back home as well to survive and I'll be really happy in that. 4. Maybe I don't want more , so going home soon😊 Maybe I've realised the difference between NEED and GREED. Edit- Just for clarification. I belong to a middle class(maybe below middle class) My father took a loan for our house and for our studies. We both siblings worked hard but we were not able to clear that loan faster. For that I left India. In 2020 November our family got debt free. so after 2020 why I am living here, I have no clue. I am working and paying taxes here and already have the PR so I am eligible for the citizenship. But I have decided not to go for it. NO I'll not just relax in India, I am giving interview currently for relocation and I'll work until my old age. After few years I want to open a school in my hometown :)

Just telling my thoughts: If you're thinking about studying abroad, it's important to have a good reason for it. First, consider if your goals could be achieved in India instead. For many middle-class people, it's very difficult to afford studying abroad. From what I know, it can cost around 40-50 lakhs for a master's degree abroad, which is not feasible for most middle-class families. Before deciding to go abroad, think about whether your reasons for going can be met in India. Some people talk about the lifestyle abroad, but India also has modern cities that offer a similar lifestyle. Personally, I find joy in being connected to my Indian culture rather than living a modern life abroad. If you still want to study abroad, that's okay, but you need to plan carefully. Make sure you have proper guidance and knowledge about where you're going, where you'll live, and how much you'll spend. Consider if your education abroad will truly benefit your future. In short, it's important to have a clear understanding of everything before deciding to study abroad. Thank you.

A nice way to put it forward. I've noticed a good chunk of people defending going abroad to study/settle also overlap with the same group of people involved in any sort of political outcry. It always seems like a convenient coverup for their ulterior motives. They always seem to conciously ignore equally bad things happening in their ideal destinations. The crisis tories is going through in the UK? Ignored. The absolute state of those lunatics known as Republicans in the US? Ignored. Any mildly wrong thing occurs in India? "hUrRr dUrRr iNdiA bAd, LeTs LeAvE tHiS cOuNtrY!1!1" Sure this nation has a long way to go but its atleast heading in a somewhat right path.

Specifically, I believe except LSE and OxBridge, I think most universities in the UK are not good enough to spend that amount of fees. I think you didn't take into account that specially for many Indians who go to these universities, their aim isn't to stay in the first place. They aim to spend money and get a shining degree while coming back and running their father's business.

There are many people who feel they're useless amd they're in fact useless. Humanity has grown so big and an individual so small... Many complex factors obstructing their simple life. I can speak to my own experiences in the United States. While incidents like the one mentioned do occur, it's crucial to understand that many students, myself included, have had positive experiences here. I've been in the US for five years now. Regarding crime, certain areas in the US have higher crime rates, and unfortunately, some Indian students may fall victim to it. It's essential to understand that they aren't necessarily targeted due to their nationality. The Indian students I know are doing well and have landed great jobs, and they're pretty content. This can be attributed to the effort we put into qualifying for reputable universities and being aware of the potential drawbacks of lower-tier institutions. When applying to the US universities, I really dug into the details. I looked at small details, like which state the university is in, where exactly it is in that state, the crime rate around, and the diversity of the people there, and what not. I actually turned down offers from three good universities because of higher crime rates and less diversity in the area. I ended up choosing one that matched my preferences better. Making impulsive decisions to leave the country without thoughtful consideration can lead to negative outcomes. Definitely I miss my country, no doubt about it. If I feel like I've gathered enough experience someday, I might just head back home.

Loved the video. A very balanced perspective that highlights almost everything that one needs to know about this topic. I especially agree with all the reasons you shared about why Indians feel the need to study abroad. Our education system needs an overhaul but for a country like India it's extremely complicated. I can't comment about other countries but Immigration in the US is extremely complex and I think it's by design. As far as finding a job is in US or Canada is concerned I will once again like to blame our education system. We're always taught to put our head down and work. We're taught that if you work hard enough, people will notice you. However, the western world requires you to sell yourself and your skills. And while Indians are probably extremely hardworking and smart, most of us just don't know how to articulate or speak well during interviews (this is also the reason why there's a growth in career coaches in US and Canada). That again, isn't our fault completely. Public speaking is not a part of our education system. We're never taught how to sell ourselves and our skills. And until we're able to fix that, this vicious cycle will continue.

I think it is important to focus on the type of students coming here too. Most Masters and Undergraduate students going abroad will face harsh situations and challenges, while PhD students deal with non-financial stress So it is important to distinguish.

@@jestinmathew4503 That too. But I am trying to make a distinction between the type of students going abroad. It is incorrect to club all students in the same bucket. For example, the largest immigration of PhD students in the US are from Bengal, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The largest in Masters is Andhra, Telangana and Punjab where you rarely see any Bengalis. So almost all the Indian Masters students go for industry jobs immediately. There just isn't enough jobs for int'l students considering such a high demand.

Another perspective: I actually took a job in Japan. Good money but I felt so claustrophobic living in their matchbox homes that I wraped up in a year and came back. Life there is excruciatingly boring. While i got an amazing package and ended up saving most of it, the scope of growth is non-existent cz nepotism is big there. People in high positions, even in a mod sized company, almost certainly have strings in the gvt. So these oldies don't leave their position. If you dare to qualify they'll simply try to spoil your life and get you out of their way. In japan young people's backs are broken cz they are pulling ALL the weight of institutions. Their work ethic however is commendable and that is something to retain.
