As an ex celebrity idolizer myself (from korean pop culture) these methodologies are similar to how kpop managements keep their fandoms hooked and obsessed. Just today I read some news that few poor girls loved BTS/Kpop so much they almost tried to travel from India to Seoul without telling anyone, and luckily they were rescued. Why are so many people (especially I feel girls) becoming crazy die-hard fans of Kpop that they would do anything for them?

@@adarshmohapatra5058 because how they portrait things in kdramas, idol vlogs, interviews and many such instances. They train idols for 3 to 7 years or more to be seen as an extraordinary being. Actually, toxic fan culture is much worse than this. As a South Indian, during my school days, my class was split in two groups: Vijay fans and Ajith fans(there were some students, who didn't side with either of the celeb including me, the two groups ignored us since we didn't spew hate on either of the actors). There were fights everyday on which actor was better compared to the other. The two groups would try to find the faults in the films and tease about it to the other group. And this toxicity was even in my college, with more intense fights and quarrels. My classmates bunked classes to watch the first shows of the actors and pride themselves as the biggest fans. Rajinikanth fans were obsessed to the point that you could frequently hear news of some fan dying while worshiping(pouring milk and doing puja) Rajinikanth's very large cutout, some fans go to temple barefoot, climbing many thousands of stairs, so that his movie becomes a hit.

I observed this toxicity in K-pop fans first, later I realised that this is normal for Indian celebrities as well. As a Telugu person, it's disappointing to see Tollywood fans wasting their time and fighting with others. Fans shouldn't lose their self respect in the process of worshipping a celebrity, instead admire their good work, get inspired from them, and hold them accountable if they do mistakes.

I am saying this from experience, the most important part of being a fan is getting self-satisfaction. The fact that my favorite celebrity is getting success and popularity or doing something good gives me a satisfaction that I have made the right choice by supporting that celebrity, which I may not get from anything else in my life. That's why when that celebrity does something terrible or says mean things, my first attempt will be to defend him/her and ignore that flaw as much as I can, so that I don't get hurt. If that doesn't work, then I would get disappointed and try to ignore that celebrity completely. So in a way, fans also use the celebrity to get self-satisfaction or self-validation, which is why there is immense pressure on that celebrity to maintain their public image.
@Kai-ps6lh
@Kai-ps6lh 11 ай бұрын

Since I was a small kid I used to see people calling themselves " FAN " and doing certain things . But I couldnt relate to them . I mean yes i might like an actors acting/personality but I cant be his fan and worship him . As most of the people have totally different personalities when on camera and when off camera . Some actors are seen as gods and have a very positive image on camera with millins of fans BUT THEY ALSO ADVERTISE AND SELL GUTKA AND PAN MASALA for money . And craziest thing is that people still worship them . This really made me think hard about general people mentality , Some people just have low critical thinking . My sister is one of them , She always worships some public figure . And I often tell her that its okay to like someones work but worshipping them is not okay . After many debates and arguments she finally accepts and guess what after 5-6 months she again starts worshipping some other public figures . This led me to believe that some people are biologically vulnerable to these things . Its not that they chose to be like this but its what their brain tells them to . . And in India this idol worshipping is on some next level . This video is a living proof of it . This video has 1.2 Million views with just 60k Likes and 2K DISLIKES . I mean at the end of the day its survival of the fittest , If some people have vulnerable brain you can either ignore them or exploits them .

@sunatray

As per AI: The word "fan" as we use it today to refer to an enthusiastic follower of a sport or celebrity has an interesting etymology. It's a shortened form of "fanatic," which originally referred to someone who was excessively enthusiastic or devoted to a particular cause or belief. However, the origin of "fanatic" itself is even more intriguing. It comes from the Latin word "fanaticus," which meant "inspired by a god." This word was associated with people who exhibited frenzied or ecstatic behavior, often in religious contexts. So, while the modern use of "fan" might seem less intense than the original meaning of "fanatic," the underlying concept of passionate devotion remains the same.

You can find such t0xic, obsessive fandom in the West & Kpop too. Look at the Swifties & Army. They take it to the point where they cyber bully their “idol’s” real-life partners. Nowadays, the para social relationship is happening with the viewers of KZbinrs, Tiktokers, etc. I’m from the south, I would rank Telugu>Tamil>Hindi in terms of fandom toxicity. In the south, most major actors try to leverage their fan base into political currency. Example, Pawan Kalyan, MGR, Kamal Hasan, now Vijay.

Can't agree with you more!!People in south India are so much obsessed with these actors that they think if a he is a good actor then he will also be a good politician.

@@gayathri33135 that's because most commercial big actors play the role of a "leader" who represents the people, fights corruption & crimes, etc. People don't understand that just because a person can play the character of a leader, doesn't make them qualified to be the political executive.

@@JuneKafaltiya yes, I wish most Indians would understand that most problems are universal. Mohak sometimes also phrases his videos in a way that makes these issues "exclusively Indian". That is at best ignorant or at worst intentional.

Fan groups can be both good and bad. On the positive side, they foster a sense of community, shared enthusiasm, and can provide a platform for creative expression. However, they may also lead to excessive fanaticism, conflicts, and sometimes toxic behavior. It largely depends on the values and behavior of the specific fan group.

True. Kerala had this toxic culture years ago where fans of Mohanlal and Mammootty would clash and degrade each other for no absolute reason. A lot has changed over the years and Both of their communities are now mostly charity organisations.

Summary: Admiration/ getting entertained by them/ liking a movie or the actor/actress is completely okay. But getting into a trance where the fans think that their life's mission is to love a celeb who doesn't even know you exist is surely a psychological problem that needs to be adressed. (but in reality, no one gives a fuck about it) Though this channel's goal is to explain India using evidence, it happens in every other country too! Let's be honest, in India it's a bit extreme 😂

I never saw this coming. Hats off to you Mohak. I think we have had it enough. It's high time that we boycott and aware others about it. This is just crazy to see this fandom. TBH, these celebrities don't give a f*ck about their loyal fans. They literally don't give a crap about it. To address toxic fan culture, it's essential to promote positive communities, implement effective moderation and reporting systems, educate fans on the impact of toxicity, and engage with positive role models.
