Best self defence training, hit the track son, if you can simply run faster you take away all your opponents years of training, gym time roids, strength advantage ect. Love how the instructor immediately dismisses the idea, I reckon the kid could outrun the attacker any day of the week.
@whennever82026 жыл бұрын
that kid couldn't outrun a girl, man. running is not about being light, it's leg muscles and lung capacity. a real attacker could catch up to him in a blink.
@Tletna6 жыл бұрын
Eh, it is about legs, lungs *and* being light. If you're strong you can sprint away but with good lungs and endurance you can actually stay away. I don't know if that kid is a good runner but his body type seemed great for it - tall/thin.

The skinny kid was 100% correct... if someone pulls a knife on you... the best thing you can do it RUN! That is your best thing you can do to keep you alive. The only reason you should not run is if he already has your kid/gf/wife or other loved one in their grasps and they cannot get away... then you have to stay and do something... submit or fight... but you have those fight or flight instincts for a reason. and the only way you should even think about staying and fighting if you are alone is if you have a gun and enough space to use it. I got robbed at knife point one time, and I've gone over it in my head a gazillion times what I would've done if the guy had tried to stab me. I always imagine that if I try to trap his arm or wrist, he's going to yank the knife away cutting my hand along with it. ***** Obviously you done the right thing in that situation since you are here commenting. I was once attacked by a knife welding person who tried to rob me. He pulled out the knife and I just automatically reacted as I thought he was attacking me. More than likely he was not going to use the knife but I still reacted. I trapped the knife and threw him to the ground and the knife went flying off and I allowed him to get up and run off and I backed off. I went over it in my head what would have happened if I had of got the trap wrong and he managed to stab me even once. I done the wrong thing even though I was trained with knifes in the military. These situations are hard to predict but you got it right. If you live in America I would suggest that you get gun defense training and watch where you travel to.

***** You're one of the rare people in the world who actually has a sane imagination and expectation of your own abilities and how real fights would go down. Thank you for not being one of the delusional crazies who go like "all I need is to have a greater will to win" (says every guy in the world including their attacker) However, I recommend checking out some krav maga techniques. They try to wrap securely while also punching the guy in the face (the punching in the face is actually the more important part because you want to try to knock them out or make them run). It's definitely nowhere foolproof -- maybe raises the chance of survival from 10% to 25%
@thelol779 жыл бұрын
***** you gotta be fucking kidding me. that is terrible advice. all that's gonna happen is you grab the knife, then the guy yanks it back, tearing off a chunk of your palm's flesh with it. all you accomplished is adding a lot of pain and possibly disabling one of your hands, which really lowers your chances of winning the fight considering how key hands are. in order for you to have a chance of successfully grabbing the knife, you would need to be not only much stronger than your attacker (because he is engaging a large number of muscle groups, and possibly his whole body strength, for the simple motion of just pulling away; it's all of that coordinated muscle effort vs your grip strength), but also a very high pain tolerance. the palm is a very sensitive area and holding onto the blade of a knife as it digs into your flesh and tendons is extremely difficult.

There is something Nick teaches that a lot of martial arts schools don't teach. If you're sure the situation is escalating you have to strike pre-emptive, against opponents of any size. On top you might if possible even direct his attention elsewhere & then attack as fast as you can. Nick has good videos about striking hard & fast. By law you're in the wrong, but do you really wanna risk getting knocked out & beaten on the ground fighting fair? Yeah, didn't think so.

@DigitalHaze655369 жыл бұрын
Sir Lance Goodthrust If you were dumb enough to let a stranger get in your space like that, yes. Whether hand to hand, knives, or guns, awareness is the first step in self defense. That 10 meters thing is if he is running towards you ALREADY. Non gun users underestimate OUR training and our ability to get that gun out and pump out accurate, fast pace shots. They tend to think that someone that carries a gun is a wimp and can't do anything without the gun, which is false. Heck I carry pepper spray also. (for dogs and situations where lethal force isn't needed) We can unholster the gun while moving ;) Many gun owners (myself included) have some fighting training and keep themselves strong and in shape too. I'm not quite as big as the guy in the video but definitely bigger than the average guy. (strength matters too) The gun can be used point blank out to a considerable distance, the knife and hands, not so much.
@metalmaniacmm27189 жыл бұрын
Sir Lance Goodthrust I can draw my pistol from a concealed holster with one hand and hip fire 3 shots in less than 2.5 seconds. How is it that I would be unsuccessful at stopping a threat? Back pedal as you are drawing the weapon from holster, immediately rest the bottom of the magazine on your side in the 3 o'clock position and squeeze the trigger. Unless you were not aware of the attack about to take place this is a valid means of stopping the threat. Experience in practicing the quick draw and hip fire is a very fast way to engage a threat effectively, provided the threat is in close range.

If a guy walks up and say something like give me your watch you knock him the fuck out but traping the knife its a pipe dream yeah it could happen but how many times are you gonna get stabbed while your panicing trying to grab his arm or trap NO as soon as you feel some kind of discomfort witch is the second someone demands something from a person in a threatening way you knock them the fuck out cause one thing i have noticed in training and in actual fights and i have been engaged by someone with a knife in the same way they never protect there face and it did not end well for the man who tried to attack me even after the man tried to stab me and he failed because first thing he did wrong was he demanded something from something of mine after i beat him near half to death i drove this man to the hospital where he was treated for a fractured cheek bone four broken ribs 2 broken fingers and dislodged shoulder and fractured elbow i spent two days in jail but i walked away with my life and not a mark on me. So if you are approached in a discomforting way and you feel as if your life is threatened in anyway strike first and strike fast and even keep striking if you wanna stay alive.

Bailey Gibson I believe this is the right way to defend yourself against any attacker. F*ck them up as soon as you can. Don't care about them...
@Robert3999 жыл бұрын
VirusZNM I really know very little but from what I've read, you focus on the guy as much as you can. BUT if he gets a grip on you or gets in close, you can't ignore the knife. Even if you don't trap it, you have to occupy it, you can't be trading punches for stabs.
@codecorleone78829 жыл бұрын
***** there is a difference between a gun and a knife though, the main point here is that you trap the knife or discombobulate the attacker and take their focus off the knife and on you without letting them attack you first. whereas a gun they can still shoot even if you get them down on the ground and conscious. once you trap the knife or dont it really doesnt fuckin matter, you strike them taking their attention off the knife and you get your fuckin hits in, like the guy above said....they dont have their hands to block their face because all their focus is on the knife in their hand
@codecorleone78829 жыл бұрын
im not even gunna read all of that ill just answer your first question...and it is NO. if you trap a knife and keep it arms reach away from you, theres nothin they can do. if you trap a gun even farther than that...you can still be shot....bullet travels a long way bud

@polomangameplay80346 жыл бұрын
When Nick asked Niko what his instinct told him to do in this kind of situation, he answered something pretty common and normal, something that is probably the first thing on everyone's mind: Run away. Instinct might tell you to run away from a dangerous situation. The thing is, what if it isn't possible? Say you can't run away from a knife attack, what do you do? You defend yourself and you fight back using strategic moves. Take into account that if you're going to be in a knife attack, and someone is coming straight at you, and in close range, you will need to fight. In one case scenario, your opponent might come straight at you, demanding an item you have on you. (The best recommendation is to comply. A material object is not worth your life, of course). Most importantly though, you must take into account your attacker's stance and demeanor. If he has a hand behind his back, you have to assume he has a weapon to use against you. You need to assume the worst, and do what it takes to survive. Now, let's say he's demanding the item, and the moment you go to give it to him, he moves frontwards and pulls out a knife. What do you do? You maintain a passive and neutral stance in front of your opponent. You cannot show fear. You should always strike first if you notice something is wrong. However, it's possible to be caught slightly off guard. If this happens, the moment he goes to strike you, you trap the knife. You must try to make your opponent drop the knife, if possible. To strike back, go with an elbow or a palm strike, or even a powerful head butt. Time is precious, so do not on any account waste it. You must attack. It's best to step in right away and incapacitate your opponent as quickly as possible. You need to do everything in your power to endure the attack and to make it out alive. If you don't fight back, you will surely die. Surviving is the only thing of importance in this predicament. p.s. Trapping a knife isn't really a good idea. A fast moving knife will get you cut most of the time if you trap it. Best idea is to block using simple circular moves (not grabbing) and counterattacking either by knocking him out or hurting his arm in a way he drops the knife and gives you a fair 1 on 1.

Promoting Real Hip Hop Yeah thats true. But to use the feet you need 2 conditions: 1. Be skillful and fast with legs. Otherwise you will cut yourself trying to kick the knife. 2. Be sure he doesn't have any means of grabbing your leg.

@NiCoL4x9 жыл бұрын
0HAM0revived Not really. 1st you risk getting cut by the knife while trying to kick. 2nd while the pain is extremely bad, someone who is in a fight where a knife is involved is able to keep holding the knife and try to fight even after being kicked. You can't just hope pain will make him drop the knife. You either force it out of his grab by damaging the holding arm or you knock him out altogether. Otherwise the risk is too high.

Hi man. So I live in an apartment building. One of my neighbors who is an ex-convict had an argument with me. He went into his house and when he came out he had his hand behind his back and started asking if I wanna fight. Instinctively I just knew he had a knife. Luckily nothing happened as I walked away. This happened on a stairway with very little space to maneuver. Could you perhaps replicate such a scenario for us? Not necessarily a stairway but in places with little space to move.
@Plague_Doc2210 жыл бұрын
Alwi Mohamed Suleiman Iknow you didnt ask me but I can charm in as I have martial arts experience. What I would do is just like he says in this video "trap" the knife. Usually closing the distance and using both hands/arms to hold on to the knife is the way to go. If you're fast enough you can even go for a quick sweep with your leg (by putting your leg behing his and pushing towards it). And then just run. No need to risk anything.
@slip990610 жыл бұрын
TheAllstar22 say you use both hands on his knife hand. what if he started to strick you with his free hand. do you just keep on taking the blows?
@Plague_Doc2210 жыл бұрын
slip9906 idiotic question. But I'll give it a real answer anyway. I'd pull his knife hand towards his back and trip him or do a judo hip throw. I can then land a couple of clean hits to the face without him being able to cover up and he'll be knocked out and I can then hold him down until officers arrive.
@spoonman739 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I think the best move in the situation you were in would be to get the drop on him, close the gap quickly and try to keep his arm pinned behind his back. Possibly try asking him what he has behind his back. This will hopefully prompt him to try and keep it hidden, thus giving you the chance to rush him. Just like demonstrated in the video, control of that arm is essential.
@Osprey19949 жыл бұрын
You did the right thing best option was to diffuse the situation and walk away ignore anyone else who tells you to fight but if it comes down to it you were on stairs right? You have the high ground grab the railings and place a kick as hard as you can in his chest then get back to your room as fast as possible and call the police if you beat someone to a pulp the court will have a field day even if its self defense my trainer taught me that even self defense can get you in trouble. Always remember your step one should be Diffuse and disengage seems like the bitches way out but when you live to see another day it's the best option.

My instructor, Ed Lawson had what he called the knife drill. Give someone in the class a "knife" to attack him with. Stab to arm or leg means you can't use it anymore. Torso means you're dead. He'd usually give the knife to the youngest kid in class. They generally killed him.

Is there any actuality in this defense?

Now, i'm pretty sure a robber wouldn't go and outright stab someone if they saw that the person was willing to co-operate and take the watch off their arm. However, what i would do differently is that i'd drop the requested valuables/items on the floor/ground, act nervous and scared. Now, this creates the illusion of control for the attacker and as the attacker reaches for the requested items you have the perfect chance to strike. Instead of having to use your arms you can now use your legs to strike even harder. Surely a strong kick to the throat will put anyone to the ground AT LEAST if not even knock them out.Now if the attacker hasn't already dropped the knife it will be much easier to take it at that point, while keeping you much safer in my opinion.
@TwilightWolf2859 жыл бұрын
Enormous Goat Even better, use your knees. While he bends over to pick up the watch or whatever valuable, a quick knee to the nose will work wonders, followed by a firm kick to the groin.
@Neffins9 жыл бұрын
TwilightWolf285 Yeah, i wouldn't trust a nosebleed though...A kick to the throat will completely disable the attackers ability to breathe and possibly even make them pass out and i'd rather go all out in a situation where my life is threatened.. That's just an opinion though.. I do still think that if you're already being attacked with a knife then your chances of living are extremely slim. People realize that knives are sharp, but i don't think they've ever seen a stabbing victim before. I bet that most people would panic after the first slash that cuts all the way down to bone and that's the end of them.

You usually can't defend against a knife attack. If the guy asks for something give it to him, unless he steps forward or makes a movement with his knife arm then step back. look for a weapon or something to put between you. look for a weapon with more range then his knife. Then, run. At least that was what I would do. remember you have more chances of evading him, than winning in a fight against him. Please remember I am not a professional.

I spent many years as a Corrections Officer and we learned a lot about how to deal with knives, shanks at a short distance especially since so many jails and prisons are going to a modular type facility where instead of the inmates being in cells behind bars they are out in a day room all the time and you do inspections out an about. You are literally arms length from 30-40 of them and more and any of them can close that gap really quickly. One of the nastiest incidents I ever saw where one inmate went after another with a jail issue plastic fork. It took no than 3-4 seconds start to finish. Running in most cases is not an option because you won't have the time and your back will be unprotected. It's fight or nothing, you might lose but at least you won't go willingly.

Actually training yourself to be aware of body language used when carrying a weapon would be the most useful advice for this scenario I can come up with. It is after all a trait you have to consciously train to be able to hide from anyone that knows what to look for, that provides a serious head starts on most of the confrontations one is ever likely to get into, planning and timing becomes a factor you can use to your advantage. The emphasis on where to place your hands and how you prepare/tense for the confrontation without showing any alarming body language was well explained and shown, guessing it is something a lot of the people watching this wont realize the importance of.

Being the victim, you’re always going to be on the counter attack. You’re #1 goal is to stay alive. In situations like this, where an attacker is attempting to take something from you, and specifically, showing one hand while concealing another, you must assume that there is a weapon in his other hand. The best way to deal with a situation like this is to be compliant and give the assailant what he wants. You’re life or serious bodily harm is not worth a confrontation due to your ego. I think Nick Drossos is doing is very smart in educating the public that the world is not all sunshine and rainbows, and i like that he shows him a few options to be able to defend himself. If you believe that this man has no firearms, only CQC weapons (like a knife or baton), one thing you can do is RUN, only you must run like you mean it, this is for your life. Only run if you are either willing to take the risk that this man is not carrying a firearm, or have confirmed that he does not have a firearm, and that he is 100% ALONE. Running the opposite way may lead you into accomplices of his, who may have knives or worse. The best thing to do in this situation is be compliant, up until being compliant does not work anymore.

I was standing at a bus stop late at night, and 3 guys were walking towards me, and it was obvious they meant to come to me specifically, so I got up and said "Hey, what's up?" and this one guy had his hand in his pocket and said "Gimme your phone kid." I didn't have a phone, no joke. So I said "I don't have a phone." and he replied "Bullshit!" and pulled out a knife, at this moment he was probably 5 feet away, but as soon as I saw his arm fling out, I turned and fucking ran, and that was probably the fastest I ever ran, I got away and then I ended up going to a nearby friends house and spending the night there, cause, well, fuck i'm not going back out there.
