I had never heard of you and just bought your audio book because it sounded interesting. I'm not at all disappointed! I'm at the part where you've just stated cave diving school. Do you still use lead acid batteries to power your dive equipment or are the lithium ones being used now?

Today we use lithium batteries for almost everything. They power our underwater scooters further and faster and illuminate smaller and more powerful lights. That said, lithium batteries have hazards too. I have experienced three lithium battery fires... but that is another story!

@@JillHeinerth Is there a difference between them re pressure in terms of conditions on which they perform poorly? I've been listening while driving today, I'm a truck driver so listen to many audio books! I'm really enjoying yours! I plan to get PADI certified to dive recreationally, but will likely stay out of caves!

@@eiloen No difference with pressure on the batteries, but since we were adopting the batteries early in development, the accidents were related to charging issues and deep discharge. Today, we understand the importance of using properly developed chargers with temperature cutoffs and deep discharge cutoffs as well as the newer Lion technology that can take a beating more than the delicate LiPo tech that could not handle rough and tumble treatment. Still... I am always careful to be present when charging Lion batteries.
