I was raised evangelical (Baptist in childhood to charismatic in adolescence). I'm in RCIA, and very much leaning toward joining the Church. A few things made the Catholic Church compelling to me. First, the historicity. The early church looks much more Catholic to me than anything else. Two, the failure of sola scriptura in leading to church unity; it's a direct cause of division. This was a big light bulb to me. Multiple denominations didn't bother me much for a long time. But when I accepted that Christ wants his church unified as is clearly stated in scripture, I recognize that private interpretation of scripture leads to the opposite, so it can't be the right way to go. Three, related to two, is that Jesus, as is clearly seen in the gospels, didn't come and write and distribute a book. He clearly established a church with his apostles and gave them authority to lead, teach, and govern the Church. So, if this is true, and the early Church looks very Catholic, that's pretty persuasive that the Catholic Church stands a good chance of being the true Church. I still struggle with the exclusiveness of this thought. I can't invalidate my experience as a Christian thus far. I have loved the Lord, been guided and blessed by Him. I don't think anyone would really say that my faith until now was invalid, perhaps just incomplete. Anyway, I'm enjoying RCIA. I enjoy the parish I'm attending. Just a few things bother me, but I'm understanding the Catholic view better as time goes on.
@RedWolf52 жыл бұрын
I’m so happy for you 😊 As you keep in reading the fathers of the church you’ll understand where the exclusivity of though emanates from, is not a bad thing it was meant to keep unity.

Tim, the Catholic Church does NOT consider your Christianity until now invalid, quite the opposite, everything you currently believe that is compatible with Catholic belief can be brought into the Church. I would see Catholicism as adding to your belief and giving you the fullness of faith rather than taking away what you have. That is why Catholics call Protestants our brothers and sisters. Generally Catholics do not demonize other Christian traditions but instead believe they are Christians without the fullness of the Truth that Christ wants for them.
@canalasmr55162 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, I'm at RCIA too. My background is similar to yours, Evangelical, but I started Charismatic and then Baptist. But listen to this irony, I'm from Mexico, which is a Catholic nation (very Catholic). Now I'm living here in the US, it is here where I got to understand Catholicism. It was a long process but the last step to make the change was the Eucharist. I'm a nutrition nerd, the understanding of food is one of my worldviews or perspectives, so when I found out that there is this ultimate food, Christ's body and blood, that was it, I said "I want that food". _Saludos._ 👋

Yay! I’m a massive fan of this platform and of Ms Owen. It’s great to hear George. I’m a great admire of his Father and his family. One of the great gifts that Brit’s have given the world are from the Missionaries and sharing the word of God. It’s really disappointing to see the decline of faith in Western countries like the Uk. Thank goodness for people like George and Candice. May God bless their family and this platform!

Walking away from social media is one of the best things I've ever done for myself. Also, taking away internet access saved one of my daughters from the evils of gender ideology. Go nuclear parents. Pull the plug. Hashtag homeschooling is the best!
@rroadmap Жыл бұрын
Homeschooling might not be bad if you actually get a good curriculum and actually teach your children faithfully. But I've seen the way some of my friends and family "homeschool". They do schoolwork when they feel like it. The kids have no schedule and never learn to get up at a certain time and be punctual. They don't learn half of what they would in school. My cousin's son just decided he didn't want to do it anymore his senior year. She gave him a diploma anyway. But my daughter is a second-grade teacher in a small-town conservative district. She has three students this year who came back to public school after supposedly having been home schooled. They didn't even know their letters, much less how to read! They can't do single-digit addition when they should be doing three-digit addition. It's pathetic! They should be starting over in Kindergarten when they are the age of a third-grader! Their siblings are just as far behind! These parents did NOT homeschool! They should be jailed! My daughter and her coworkers are not trying to indoctrinate your children. They're too busy teaching them to read, write and do arithmetic!

This was such a great interview. I’ve been following Candace for a while and have loved her content. I had no idea she’s in the same position I’m in- being Protestant and married to a Catholic man. George said so many things I resonated with. His father and mine sound very much alike. I hope his relationship with his father has been rectified despite his conversion to Catholicism. My own relationship with my dad has hit some roadblocks since my looking into the Catholic faith. Please continue the great work and wonderful interviews, Matt!

Matt Fradd is my FAVORITE interviewer! I think it stems from his humility. There were so many points during this talk that I wanted to insert myself and ask a question, or add a point that just came to mind from their discussion. I was completely enthralled by his interview of Father Ripperger, and I’ve been listening to/watching/reading Father for YEARS. Thanks for a great program Matt! Praised be Jesus n Mary!

His story reminds me of when I was reading The Screwtape Letters. We get excited about our faith and then our faith wanes as the world engulfs us and then the resulting effects of being distracted by our demons. But with God, our journey keeps bringing us ever closer to Him.

Also wanted to add what a shame it is that the UK has fallen into such a state of relativism, when it has given the English-speaking world two of the greatest Christian thinkers/writers of the 20th century: CS Lewis and GK Chesterton. It’s heartbreaking.

Thank you for Lewis and Tolkien. I got into “ discussion” online years ago with UK people and was amazed how it triggered these wolf pack attacks on my belief. All pretty unreasonable, strawman and ad hominem. To paraphrase Senator Feinstein, “The secular belief system lives loudly within you” ( UK).

As a Brit I can tell you that, historically, we don't ever talk about our religious beliefs or politics with our friends. I do not know the "religion" of ANY of the friends I have ever had over the decades. Likewise with politics. I think it is the culture that we want to be nice and not upset anyone with an argument.

I was generally poorly catechized but I had a spiritually active relationship with Christ even though I couldn’t accurately cite my scripture. With that said, there is a liturgy and the mass is a biblically immersive experience so I was amazed at how sound my fundamental understanding was of the nature of Christ. Takes a three year cycle of mass attendance to hear nearly the whole bible
