Finally! When I first saw the social types, I thought what the hell do you mean responsibility last? I know I’m responsible and I treat my job as a craft. That’s what I create! And I do it well. And get really annoyed when somebody doesn’t do their job properly. An ESL teacher here😁

This tracks as far as I can see, I think I’m a 3 INFP. In my life I attempted to specialise while ignorantly believing I didn’t need a safety net. Failed to live up to the standard I believed I was destined for, it broke me and for 10 years I have been living in a hole. On the plus side I have helped a couple of my long term therapists through their own home life interpersonal problems, doing nothing but self critiquing all day helps in getting to the core of other people’s concerns, ask enough relevant questions with positive rapport to jump into their shoes, and walk into the different rooms in their mind they are having issues with and do the same thing I do to myself.

As someone who also fell into a decade long hole, I understand! Have you been studying OPs long? How has it helped you so far?

In your experience, is this a well known INFP trait? Or, do you consider yourself an outlier/exception to "the 'rule,'" as it were?

@@Owlsworthy I’m sorry to hear you have been having a hard time at life as well, I truely wish you the best. 💜 As for how OPS has been for me so far, initially it was actually harmful, when intelligent people say things you are insecure about with conviction, if there are misunderstandings at all it can sit with you for a week. There has however been a big shift and I have actually started picking up some valuable lessons, but it has required a shift in perspective. Apologies in advance for the lengthy reply. It appears until they start to become self aware of how other people perceive them thinking dominates, especially Te, tend to deliver information as if it is empirically true even if they are mulling over ideas. When someone educated in any field says something with complete blunt confidence in an area you personally lack confidence in, there is the risk of taking their words more literally than they intended them, or that they may end up changing their perspective of in a few months time while you are still working off old information. This may not make sense yet, but going through some back catalogue stuff it will. I could relate it to if you have ever been to hospital, and the surgeon speaking to you at the time before or after surgery has no bedside manner, you get they are trying to do the medically right thing, but the human aspect and normally expressed room for doubt you kind of have to self insert. Positive points I can think of on the spot. -Think of using the functions you are weak in like you would regiment an exercise, dedicating a slot in the day you will do all the tasks required for that function so they don’t go overlooked. For me I was loosing connection with my friends, because to me nothing had changed for the worse since I spoke to them years ago, so in my mind there is no reason things can’t just pick up where they left off whenever one of us feels like saying hi even if a years have passed. More social individuals however have a different shelf life on that sort of thing, like how some plants need watering more than others, they require a check in to keep the friendship alive and not to assume they will be okay with things on pause for a while. -As an IxxP the one of the easiest ways someone can lie to me is give me a compliment, Te and Fe are loose with the truth in their respective specialisation as they want to get things going, so if they think lying to you will get you moving in the short term they will do it with little concern for the long term. -Fi and Ti are seen as selfish by extrovert functions. It makes sense as they don’t see all the worrying or work we are trying to do for people is going on inside our head instead of immediate results, the later part I don’t think extroverted functions have picked up onto yet, just know if you are lead Ti or Fi, as you are doing for the mile deep but inch wide approach rather than the mile wide but inch deep approach of extroverted thinking and feeling, they will see you as not contributing, this seems to be changing from the “selfish” to the “specialised” or what the change is now in the type 3 example, it sounds like they have someone on their team now who has a lead introverted deciding function, I can only imagine how one dimensional my system would be if I was speaking to a group entirely of just introverted deciders, having the Ne/Si in the middle though does help see the different perspectives, and I have faith they have good intentions so eventually their understanding of fi’s place for example becomes more fleshed out, we just have to understand as it is their third and forth functions they are only seeing them like a child, circling back to how my perception of the channel was harmful at first as my Te is weak. Edit: Sorry for typos, grammar, etc, it’s late at night and antidepressants plus sedatives don’t keep one’s mind 100% sharp at the best of times.

@@Dolph-fe2ksI think this is a common trait, I have just had a lot of therapist poke around inside my head from a young age, so trying to articulate how I think is probably a little easier than others who have it more in the background. Or perhaps this is more of how a damaged INFP figures people out. Do you believe you may be an INFP, and is this how you think? I once heard someone who seemed to be an actual ENTP describe the INFP Fi+Ne process as true empathy. Getting the utmost understanding of what emotions actually are, then using Ne to collect as much conceptual information as possible from the person they are addressing. Just to be clear I hope this doesn’t sound like some pompous flex on my part, I am aware I am essentially just guessing what people feel with my inner reflexive documentation of what each emotion and scale of that emotion feels like, too much time collecting minute abstract details about the role emotion plays in the human experience of our own existence. It makes interaction with other people extremely draining, involuntarily forming guesstimations that feel like legitimate, accurate connections as to how people feel at any given time, apparently with quote some accuracy however they could be lying and I wouldn’t know. Eye contact is the most distracting, intrusively intimate and informative I would describe it. It has helped in the past though, over video call I have been able to tell when someone in the call was experiencing something they were trying to hide from everyone else but needed help with, or recently let someone know she looked sick two days before she developed symptoms she herself noticed, she is an individual that doesn’t get sick often. Sounds far fetched, I wouldn’t put much stock into someone telling me this sort of thing for the first time either. Edit: It was my initial reason for being so intrigued with this typology channel over others, I mean no disrespect in saying this, but Dave and Shan feel so distant from the regular human experience for me, it gave me the idea that something like this is how AI will eventually relate to humans, leaders in typology theory are often some sort of thinker type separated from the empathy of Fi or Fe, almost like they are searching for the missing link between their computer selves and we apes. To watch two people with such a connection so far down in preference while still interested in the way people think was so foreign even from the others it was almost like a completely new stimulus to unravel. I’ve only seen it before in some psychiatrists and surgeons; psychologists, Ocupational a therapist, psychiatric nurses, councillors, recovery coaches and so on have all shown an interest in the psyche from a much more relatable direction.

I used to say I’m like a jack of all trades but definitely now I see that is Oe but not generalization I have a lot of hobbies but it always feel like I wanna be really good at them, like expert level, but definitely never get there because I feel like going to the next shiny thing after a while But that feeling of specialization, and that initial seriousness and commitment you have is there

@J11_boohoo it feels like I'm interested and committed to nothing but achieve mastery very quickly. I have very few hobbies and the few i have stay for a long time. I am good at most things I try but don't really like trying out new things. Generalization for others or to achieve an end to a mean forces me to try something and then I'm an expert on it. There are a lot of things I'm good at but don't enjoy lol

I think 2s also specialize, but they’ll rarely go as deep as 3s because they are also responsible for other areas. Having Si helps me when developing skills (even though it’s a demon). I have a couple areas where I’ve gone very deep (not just in my opinion), but many areas where I do just enough to get by.

I dunno. Seems like these Social types would be best served if you could boil them down to 1 Archetypal title. Yeah, I know there's some resistance with that (cuz mainstream), but if you're unwilling to consider the math of 4 Archetypes, with 4 traits, it'd have less blow back. Just sayin 🤷🏻

People know what generalism is, though.🙂Doesn't have to be "popularly" used like "scam".
