Lol.. actually I think they were over in Marlboro County across the river. I remember when I was newly married and 20 years old I had to work on a drink cooler at Buddy's Trucker Motel. There was almost undressed girls in there. I was way too uncomfortable.

Hi, I live in Southport, NC and was wondering what might be the best bang for my buck in terms of small town history if I wanted to travel within a two hour range or so. Thanks in advance!

My 6th G-Grandfather was elected Vestryman of St David’s in 1777, Capt John Blakeney.

Wow. Thats pretty cool you can go back that far.

@@CAROLINATONY I can go back one generation further on that line to Col. Robert Blakeney born 1709 died 1766 in Limerick, Ireland. On my other Chesterfield lines I can go back to 1510.

Governors, sheriffs, judges, high rollers and the horney (sometimes that meant all of the afore mentioned) were among those who flocked to Society Hill for many decades for both political and "social" reasons. It was said that if you wanted to get elected to and hold onto an office in South Carolina you best have made some friends in Society Hill....Some of them even have kin still living there even if they, the kin, don't know they ARE kin.

Way back then they didn’t realize that one day that place would be nothing more than a speed trap for trucks.
