The taste of any drink can be altered drastically by the original container, the container you're drinking out of, the method of drinking (a straw), the presence or absence of ice, and the temperature of the liquid and humidity of the room. Also fast food places are sometimes given different "superior" formulas of supposedly the exact same drink to what you buy in grocery stores. They are also made it with concentrate and so could be adding more or less to flavor as they desire. Finally there will always be some discrepancies in which bottling plant produced it and on what day with what water source.

The difference with fast food places isn't a "Superior formula", it's that they have a container of syrup and a container of carbonated water. The fountain machine mixes them on the spot. The reason it tastes different between places is because they actively control the ratio of syrup to water, and a lot of places intentionally put way more water in than they're supposed to in order to save money. Otherwise, it's the exact same flavouring as what's in the can/bottle at the grocery.

You can combine Dr. Pepper and Pepsi’s market share and it still does not equal Coke’s market share. Personally I prefer a Pepsi Fountain drink over Coke because coke is too sweet. However, Pepsi is flatter in Cans and bottles and has a weird aftertaste so Coke taste better to me in cans and bottles. I’d rather have a Diet Coke over both.

and @pheasantpluck Just saying, if you're using "culture" referring to Americans, generally nobody's like this. We do eat fruit. This is not a normal thing. I don't know a ton about Asmon, but I've seen that he is VERY intelligent, insightful, and (intelligently) empathetic at times, and other times seems to have a character based on satire. I'm not going to guess at how much is played up, maybe it's not. But either way, it would be pretty wild for any family to not introduce fruit to their kid, even ultra poor or if the kid's super picky. We do eat a lot more shit food than some of the world though, I believe mostly because massive "food" corporations lobby our government to allow ingredients and practices banned in other countries, and launching massive ad campaigns and producing shady "scientific research" that is somewhere between heavily biased to completely fraudulent. I'm not talking fringe stuff, I'm talking about sugar (ex. kids' cereals that are almost entirely sugar), ultra processed foods (basically everything we have available on our shelves that most people can afford), etc. There are lots of ingredients used here that Europe would never touch. And I think a lot of our public services are worse than smaller countries just due to us being so much larger. If you think of it like a classroom, if you have a great teacher with 5 students, they'll probably be taught super well. Get 500 students, even with 100 teachers, all of the red tape of managing the large number of students, teachers, managers, etc. make things much less efficient and personal. That also means it's easier for mega corporations to lobby the lifetime politicians we have in office, since the power/passion/responsibility is more spread out, I think. I feel like it's the 80/20 rule, where 20% of people are 80% of what you hear/see, so don't go off of what you see from public social media comments (I see the irony here) and the "loud" ones. I like to think most people are "normal" and pretty chill. Okay, that's it. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk.

The amazing thing about 7Up isn't the drink itself (although it can be good when you have a cold), it's that it can mix well with other things. I love Dr Pepper to death, but god damn it is the most fickle drink I've ever drank. Not only does the container extremely impart different experiences of it, but it tastes like absolute shit the moment it goes flat, which is approximately 7 minutes after you open it. As an aside, this is also largely my experience with the eternal Coke v Pepsi debate. Coke is a better cola despite being a bit more acidic, but Pepsi holds up better across the entire range of carbonation-to-flatness.

For those wondering, coke literally has a different formula for cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles, real sugar/mexican glass bottles, bag-in-box fountain ("old style"), and freestyle (pouch-in-box, big red machine/drive-thru) fountain. Every different "variant" of coke tastes slightly different from each other. Also, cokes from fountains are specifically designed to be served with/over ice for the "true" flavor, bottled coke is designed specifically for no-ice, and canned is hybridized for both the ice and no-ice taste. Oh and this is for every different sub-flavor of coke; Diet, Zero (discontinued/reformulated), Caffeine Free, Caffeine Free diet, cherry, vanilla, cherry-vanilla, orange-vanilla, lime, and the new starlight flavor, *and* the zero-sugar versions of all of the above, _each_. Not to mention every limited-run flavor (Peach and Raspberry are the current specialties). Most other brands/sub-brands/sub-flavors (pepsi) are _also_ like this Dr Pepper is independent and licenses to both Pepsi and Coke. Not all bottlers can do Dr. Pepper, so when they can't they do that, they do Pibb instead (usually due to price). Chipotle has Pibb at all locations nationwide, probably for price. IMO Mr Pibb is better than Dr Pepper. Because chemistry.

I switched from soda to lacroix/bubly a few years back. I'm now at the point where the one soda I try every few months feels way too syrupy and kind of grosses me out. In the end, I realized that what I really wanted was the co2 and caffeine. Bubly Caffeinated Sparkling Water does the trick without the excessive sugar. Citrus Cherry is the best flavor hands down, but Blood Orange Grapefruit is a close second.

Both of the latter are really good.

If anyone was curious, Squirt is more in the realm of Sun Drop, mountain dew, and mello yello. Its a "citrus soda" combining lemon, lime, orange, and grapefruit flavors, where as sprite, sierra mist, etc... are specifically lemon and lime. The citrus sodas also have a yellow color as opposed to the lemon lime ones which are clear. 😊 also, big blue is raspberry cream soda and big red is strawberry cream soda, so asmon was kindve right when he guessed cream soda.
