I feel like the echoey quiet at the end of the song is a metaphor for the canary in the coalmine. You can hear a bird tweeting, normal at first, and then increasingly choked, strangled tweets accompanied by the light yet frantic and helpless flapping of tiny wings before the last verse. Do with it what you will, but that realization MOVED me. 😢

Alright....they got me, this one hit and hit very, very hard personally. I didn’t think it was possible to get even closer to my very core than “River” did, but yea they got me this time. The lyrics...God those lyrics...and Joel’s voice. The musicianship is perfect, everything is perfect. Yea I cried, they detailed everything out in sound that I have been going through recently, thoughts I thought no one else had ever had.
