@@yuiiop4197 Well the question of "why the avatar exists in the first place" isn't answered until Legend of Korra. People who don't like that show like to pretend it isn't canon, but it's got at least one major cannon contribution by giving us both the origins of bending and the origin of the Avatar and their mission.

The evils of colonisation is one of the core themes of the show. Very dark for a kid's show but I think they manage to strike a PERFECT balance of realism and comic relief to keep it appropriate and palatable for kids. It's so great that it pulls no punches, there's stuff in there that kids should be able to recognise!

Season 3 episode 2 will confirm this. The Fire Nation is America.
@SlugbugАй бұрын
Or Great Britain. Or China. Or Russia . Or Japan. Or Ancient Greece or Rome or any of the other nations or kingdoms throughout history that repeated or are still repeating the same patterns. Colonialism is not a recent thing or an American invention or restricted to the Western countries. I'm not saying that you're wrong or that America isn't guilty of colonialism, but they aren't alone. They're not the first. They're not the biggest (historically). And they likely won't be the last.
@haritc846210 күн бұрын
@@matthewkreps3352 In the context of this show I'm pretty sure that the fire nation is supposed to represent Japan, not America. During WW2 Japan tried to invade china and various other parts of Asia, they had more advanced technology and did some pretty horrific things to the countries they were invading.

Now you have tasted just the first bit of how serious and mature this show can be. You all but quoted one of my usual comments listing the heavier subjects addressed in just 3 episodes of this show. 😁😍 The writing is excellent, the lore drops are exquisitely paced, the character growth is SO well done...and you're already wondering why you're rooting for the bad guy. 😂 THAT is great writing and compelling storytelling. Welcome to greatness. NEW SUB FOR ATLA!

As an Airbender, one of their defence mechanisms as a last resort is being able to suck the air out of the space and that includes all the air out of the people in that space and that’s probably what monk Gyatso did 🤔

The writing in this is perfect. They don't shy away from heavy topics, and do just enough to make you feel the emotions and pressures aang has. But they also have a subtle way of reminding you that these are just kids. There is no such thing as "plot holes" in this show. Every episode, every line they speak, their actions, all of it is very carefully thought out and planned. Right down to the significance of the shop frozen in ice at the South Pole aang set the booby trap in. Strap in.
@Talisguy2 ай бұрын
There are plot holes, you just don't notice or care because the story is immersive enough to make you ignore them. Which is how it should be.
@ShadowRyu2 ай бұрын
@@Talisguy no plot holes, just a bunch of canon fan theories that make no sense. There's a difference
@Talisguy2 ай бұрын
@@ShadowRyu No, plot holes. Things in the canon that do not fit together. I can't go into detail because of spoilers, but there are absolutely things in this show that don't quite add up. That doesn't detract at all from the show's quality, I just think it's important to push back against the idea that any story where some things don't fully fit together is automatically bad or a creative failure. It's part of what I see as the...obsessive quantification of media criticism, the idea that a work of fiction can be reduced down to some checklist where it's good art if it ticks all the good boxes and bad art if it doesn't. A work can have a few minor plot holes, contrivances, some writing flaws and still be a masterpiece. I won't name the episode because of spoilers, but I think one of my favourite episodes of this show has unusually weak dialogue compared to most other episodes. It's still one of my favourite episodes because it's otherwise brilliantly written.

I really like how well this show manages to weave deep and sensitive topics into the plot while avoiding the sort of crass shock tactics we see too often in modern storytelling, and remaining approachable to children. This show might be the best recent example of storytelling I am aware of, and it is everything in me not to discuss elements that have not been covered yet.

9:20 you are protective of Zuko because he is great. 😁 Also, the fire nation has the second highest percentage of benders in their population. First place were the air nomands with 100%, since they were so spiritual.

You prob already know this by now via patreon commenters, but just in case: A bit of fun TRIVIA! The show takes a lot from eastasian culture. The 4 types of bending are taken from different styles of martial arts and you can clearly see it in the choreography of their bending and fighting scenes. For example Water bending takes stances from tai chi, and firebending from the northern shaoling kung fu!

Tattoos on airbenders indicate mastery of the element and you won't see many young airbenders with the tattoo._ _Ages of Main Characters from These Episode:_ Aang: *12** Katara: *14* Sokka: *15* Zuko: *16* Suki: *15* _*Aang is technically 112_ Every other question you have will be answered in the show at one point or another.

This isn’t really in the show so I don’t think I’m spoiling anything, but you’re correct that in the Water Tribe and Fire Nation, not everyone can bend. All Air Nomads were airbenders because of their spirituality. Every nation has a different way of determining the Avatar. The show answers Air’s and the novels explain Earth and Fire.

Just to answer a few questions: 1. Tattoo is for airbender masters. Not all air nomads were airbenders. Not all airbenders became masters. 2. As eventually you may realize, air-bending is way too OP a skill if used by the wrong person- notice how many dead firebenders are by Gyatso's side. So this is why while every nation's benders seem to be spiritually disciplined ( like the fire sages for eg), the airbenders follow a very strong dharmic pacifism path to keep their OP-ness in check. For eg, a vicious sociopath airbender could literally be a walking one man genocide, sucking out air from everyone's lungs in a 50m radius and no amount of ' bender power or fitness' will see you live without air for 3 freakin minutes only. This show is very,very deep and one of the all-time great shows in animatin, imo.
