I love my trailmasters. I have 2. Beautiful knives. I did rehandle my TM in o1 with a leather stacked handle because the guard loosened up from chopping. But I love it more now. But because of this I bought the 151. Played with it. Beat on it. LOVED it for the price. Now I have 2 of each.

440/420 is much more forgivable on a large knife than on a folder. Considering the overall toughness of those lower grade steels can come into play.

Steel and heat treatment mine has been superb for the money. My only complaint is the primary grind (not the edge grind) is slightly assymetrical so that the knife can twist on impact. For the money hard to complain though. I bought it to see if I liked the style enough to invest in a real one. I do like it enough but honestly cold steel are overpriced at the moment across the board, especially in Australia. They probably need to be at least 25% cheaper to be worthwhile over say ESEE and Becker

I don't believe it's a clone no more then coldsteel knives aren't clones of knives Lynn saw. A clone to me is when something pretends to be something it's not. Anyway I really like this model knife especially since mine only cost $19 . I also have one that is made by Coleman it's exactly the same as the mtech. Funny I've seen them under both 440 an 420. I've been told they were 440A but that was 7 years ago maybe they have changed by now. I know marbles still uses 440A on their fixed blades. The problem with 420 is it is very soft unless it's 420hc. My thing is do you really believe coldsteels budget 4034 is $100+ better. I will say I'm very impressed with your kukri. Not enough to dish out $100+. I am none the less very impressed with that knife so far. Are you still on the factory edge on your kukri?

I get where you're coming from, it really is semantics. My understanding is a that this is a clone, whereas a counterfeit is something pretending it's not. I'm ambivalent about clones as long as the branding is clearly different. Whereas counterfeits I view as straight up deception and theft.
