Stunning Softies tank worthy of bragging rights! I feel you on that Yellow Fiji Leather coral. They were pretty common and cheap 20 years ago, but now a days almost impossible to find and pretty pricey when you do! Id almost sell my soul to get my hands on one again!!!

Thank you so much! So apparently Fiji has opened back up and we should be seeing them much more regularly again. I must've got some of the first to be imported in years.

@@so_so_reef I think at this point I would only keep them in a small tank. They can out compete just about anything in a larger tank. But they are amazing to look at.

Add a blue sponge and florida rics. And anemone shrimps. Assuming they survive. Maybe even a couple of sun coral polyps if the system can handle it
@so_so_reef3 ай бұрын
Yeah I'd love to add a blue sponge! I've got some bright blue mushrooms but they are still tiny and seemingly quite slow growing. Never tried rics but always liked the look of them.

I read soft corals give off chemicals that limit hard coral growthe especially sps

I read this too. I was thinking about putting one of the Fiji yellow leathers in my sps dominant tank but was advised against it for this reason.

I’m hesitant on starting a saltwater tank, do you have any advice on what to look out for and what pay attention to when first cycling a tank?
@so_so_reef2 ай бұрын
Oh gosh, that's such a big question! My advice would be to use live rock if you can. I set this tank up with live rock and added corals and fish within a few days. I also included a bit of cycled biomedia from another tank. That meant it was cycled essentially straight away. I obviously checked there was no ammonia or nitrites before adding livestock. But other tanks I've done the classic cycle and the only thing you can do is test frequently, go slow, try and get a bit of live rock in there if you're using dry. Keep your lights off for the cycle. You should definitely give it a go. Best of luck!

Beautiful tank..Quick question .. The red on the sand , would that be Cyano starting to build up ? I have the same red on my soft coral tank. I'm thinking about treating it before it gets to the top of my sand bed ..If it's Cyano.
@so_so_reef2 ай бұрын
You mean between the sand and front glass? This is really normal to have, I don't think I've seen a mature tank without it. It's not necessarily cyano, it could be beneficial bacteria, like purple non sulphur bacteria. Every now and again I might scrap it off but in general it doesn't bother me. I wouldn't treat for it.

How are you liking the noophysce?
@so_so_reef2 ай бұрын
I love the light in theory, but I struggle to recommend it full heartedly because the fan is quite loud. This tank is in a room where it doesn't bother anyone but I wouldn't be able to stand it in a busier living area! It's a shame as other the light is great!
@ccn50653 ай бұрын
are you using np k7 because of the anemone ? I am planning to get the k7 mini so i'm open to suggestion
@so_so_reef3 ай бұрын
The tank came with a light that I used for about 6 months without issue. It grew coral for sure. After I added the anemone it was always stretching for more light so I decided to get something more powerful. The K7 is very powerful - at 100% it gave me 4000 PAR at the surface on this small tank! I like the light, the only criticism is that I think the fans are quite loud. Others have said the fan noise is not that bad, so maybe I got an especially noisy one.
@ccn50653 ай бұрын
@@so_so_reef Thank you for the reply ! I think i will go with the k7 mini. Its exterior will probably fit much better than the k7 on my 20gal cube.
