Since it is an Aluminium vessel, u can put a piece of lemon in the idli vessel before​ u keep the idli plates. This will keep ur idli vessel clean

This is very right, my basmati rice idlis are more white, fluffy, and light, soft compared to sonamasuri rice, which is said to be best rice for idli

Which rice, half cup boiled rice.. Is it idli rice (fat brown rice), or our normal boiled rice which we use for daily cooking.

I live in China and imported idli rice is very expensive. 1200 rs for 5 kg

Very nicely explained. Why have you taken basmati in particular ? Don’t we get basmati smell in idli ? Can we also use normal raw rice instead of basmati

Thank You :)...For me Basmati rice always makes soft idli ,there is no smell in it...yes you can use normal rice but it may or may not come out soft and spongy ...will depend upon the quality of rice ...Srry for late reply !

Just add some tamarind or lemon (even the used one will do) in the bottom of idly cooker every time you use it will be white

never throw away water in which fenugreek is soaked....it's better to wash fenugreek initially and then soak it separately... not with urad dal. ..grind both dal and fenugreek together. ......

You can try but the idli may or may not come out soft and spongy :)...will depend upon the quality of rice too...srry for late reply !

Good ideas....your idli pan needs some tender loving care...it does not look nice on your video....a cleaning with some baking soda will do the trick.

Guilty as charged !:) I tried to clean my idli cooker in many ways but it is quite stubborn like me :D ...it is a gift from my grandma so it has got some sentimental value so I use it anyways..but u r right..I'll keep that point in mind...Thx!

Very confusing. First method - are you making two separate batters and mixing them together? Why can't we blend it all at once?

Because the rice batter should be coarse and urad dal batter should be smooth/soft .

I wash them after soaking anyways so I do it afterwards but you can do it before as well like you said :)
