These are some great ideas, in dealing with longer feathers for smaller flies, thank you, MSG Leum

Thanks Dave that is the video that I have been looking for. I have been looking for something like this for more than a year and I really appreciate your time to share it. Great technique or two and I will give them a try and will speed up my tying. One tip that I may share is that when I tie my more than 1 herl in I place my thread in front of the herl and wrap behind the thread and the thread helps keep the peacock stay together during the complete wrap so not to have it separate. Thanks again

Thanks for sharing all of the different techniques in this video with us David. They can be very useful if the hackles are to long. Take Care, Aloha 🌴🦐🎣🐟

Thanks for showing how to make long hackles shorter. It's hard to find short hackles without paying through the nose. Unfortunately the Hungarian partridge feathers I bought leave a lot to be desired, but I can use hen hackle which should work. I'd rather fish dry flies more than anything, but if they don't work I'll go to things like pheasant tails or streamers. I will tie 16, but that's as tiny as I can go. I saw some 22 and 24 flies tied, and I don't see how they did it, but as long as I can get by with 14 or 16 hooks I'll stick with that.

Great tips, thanks. I like the conclusion - "if your having a hard time seeing your dry fly, ...use it as an indicator..."? huh?
@EastRosebudFlyTackle2 жыл бұрын
While that seems strange, using a yarn or sticky indicator helps folks locate their flies on the water without too much disturbance.

great help. I now have a way to use lots of existing feathers which have sat unused for a long time!

I like Polly's casual dress and flies with fur raither than feather for the collar. Does anyone still do this? Instead people seem to gravtite twords feathers raither than fur .

Just as most things it really boils down to personal preference.... certainly can be done though.

Dave, good techniques and instructions to assist the learning. One suggestion , the video sound cuts in and out due to the background noise and talking. Very disruptive to keep following your good explanations.

Sorry about that! We produce them a little differently now and use a lav mic. Hopefully the new ones are coming through clear for you. thanks for the support!

I like the video Dave. But not all flies should be dressed lightly in my opinion. Like Irish loch flies for example. The Cary special is a another example where the hackle is tied full. It comes down to your preference. A soft hackle like the partidge and orange can be tied full so you can take off when needed.
