I would love to see Andrew alone in an interview. He clearly has a LOT to say and sadly his sister didn't allow him to speak much about HIS experience, just what she saw. **Edit: Got'damn!! 1,400 likes?? Lol kinda in disbelief by that but I'm super happy to see that I'm not the only one that felt this way! lol

Leave Ashley alone. I am their parents and they always fight. They are twins. You all are watching them and this video is using their vulnerabilities. They are sweet and good people and we were victims of our system or of the system. I did everything to get them back but because I couldn’t afford more than 2 bedrooms. They didn’t give them back and when 😂finally got them back they were so abused. By the disgusting system and addiction is a terrible disease and you have empathy.

Always the same thing: “They sound so sweet, organized, and reasonable!” They’re human beings, of course they have a reasonable nature. What makes an addict are the iterations of their “self” over a long period of time. We’re talking about patterns, not their moments of clarity. When he steals from his broken parents for a fix, that’s what we mean when we say “addict.”

For example, I just saw a comment under another street video, accusing a woman of lying because she said she “does dates,” not “prostitutes herself.” Nope…that’s just the street slang. People are taken for snitches, if they describe their behavior in terms taken directly from law enforcement code. IMO “prostituting myself” is an inaccurate and stigmatizing term. I think when people with disabilities and severe addictions are taken advantage of, they are prostituted. The difference is in identifying the actor, vs. those who are acted upon. At the same time, people who are not under duress, but choosing to work in the sex industry, are sex trade workers, and not inherently victims. That’s my perspective. Others have differing perspectives, but it doesn’t mean anyone is “obviously” lying or in denial. That’s just the first example I thought of, but it applies to anything people discuss. We each have our own way of thinking and talking about our lives and things that are going on in the world.

@@DA-ee1xi. Addiction is not about selfishness and there is no greater incidence of Cluster B Disorders in people with Substance Use Disorders. It’s the destruction of nerve pathways to the PFC that can impair moral reasoning, in people with SUDs. However, those pathways regrow, with abstinence, except in certain cases of overdose involving coma. People with ASPD have a higher incidence of addiction than the general public, but only when they have low impulse control as a feature of their condition. The impulse control impairment is the link to addiction, not ASPD. That’s why addiction is more comorbid with bipolar disorder and ADHD than Cluster B Disorders, because impulse control problems are features of bipolar disorder and ADHD. I’ve studied both Emotional and Behavioral Disorders in Education and the psychology and neurobiology of addiction in graduate programs, which taught me that different psychiatric illnesses (including Substance Use Disorder) can result in similar behavioral symptoms, but the root causes are not the same. My personal experiences in the streets and recovery community have shown me it’s true. I’ve seen people act like a whole different 😮person, in recovery…highly empathetic and principled. That kind of sensitivity seems to predispose a lot of people to addiction, but that’s just my observation.

the moment i saw this video caption i thought about how hard it might be for them to get clean. even being in a relationship with another addict made it impossible for me to get clean for 8 years. when we would quit using, it was so hard for one not to relapse too once the other decided they wanna use. i didn’t have the strength to go through withdrawals while he nodded out next to me. so i can’t imagine two twins in active addiction together. “he’s my twin so i know he’s gonna do what i’m doing.” exactly. i hope these resilient siblings can find a new way of life before they die out there.

Genetic disposition to addiction, foster care, SA, DV, self harm, runaway, incarceration, childhood molestation… it’s so sad. We see adults who struggle and most of us are quick to judge, not knowing where their roots were planted. It’s SO imperative that we heal ourselves before bringing life into this world. So many broken, unhealed, ashamed, damaged, and lost adults who NEVER got a chance to thrive. It’s not fair, life’s not fair. As a community, we ignore children’s pleas for help, nag our fingers at the ruthless and reckless adolescents, and JUDGE and CONDEMN them in adulthood. It’s not MY business”, “What happens in this house stays in this house”, “I have my OWN problems”. Such a sadistic world. Please don’t bring life into this world until you are fully capable and aware of what a challenge parenthood is. Ashley and Andrew, you both are witty and intelligent, I wish you BOTH the healing and help that you need and deserve. Even in your addiction, you STILL made a conscious decision to not procreate. Respect. To anyone reading this, please, have empathy, have compassion, have understanding. Please be slow to judge and make assumptions. You have no idea how many have to numb themselves not to feel and not to harm anyone else. Please consider that. 🙏🏾🥹

This is a comment for Mark Laita ~ I love SWU and have been watching for a few years. I have noticed that when you film two people at once, like these twin siblings, one talks (lots) more than 50% of the time. I wonder if you could tell them off camera, before starting to film, that they each will have equal time and ask them who wants to talk first. While it is interesting to observe the power dynamic that may exist in relationship between two people, it would also be interesting to hear what the quieter of the two people has experienced. I think that you show respect and value for the people in the very act of making the video, and also by the way you speak and interact with them. I would love to have the quieter person in a double interview have a chance to feel respected and valued, and maybe you can set it up so they can. Thanks for what you do, its tremendously valuable!!

In future double interviews could you possibly either A) Ask each person the same question, or B) Direct your question to a specific person? Like “Ashley how was _ ?” “Andrew-tell me about _ ?” She would not shut up for 2 secs & let him speak. She even cut him off “Anyway…ANYWAY-“ Although something tells me she’d cut him off & answer his questions too 😂
