The thing that hit me hardest was when she said her parents never forced her to do anything and allowed her the freedom of choice. It seems when we do this our children can make the right decisions for themselves. As a mother that’s my struggle. I was raised in such a strict household that I told myself I wouldn’t do that to my kids. But I also had a hard time letting go. In the end. I was super honest with them and trusted them to reciprocate that honesty. When you build that foundation of trust and understand everyone is their own person, it tends to work out well. I had drug addicted parents and I too could never say a bad word about them. They also were very honest. When you understand your parents were young just like you and are humans trying to figure out life it’s easy to give grace, forgiveness and especially respect. I wouldn’t be here without them. Same for October. She’s a true blessing. And her take away of wanting a simple life is truly the best. Wish her nothing but happiness and peace.

There are two types of people who grow up with parents with problems, those that repeat their parents problems and those who learn from them , you are the latter so good on you , it's not easy I know, you should be proud of yourself.

@orange222... unfortunately sometimes children learn what they live. I followed my father's footsteps with alcohol myself. By the grace of God or my strength I was not going to put my children through the painful childhood I had and it's been years since I've drank. Its hard work but the cycle can be broken one day at a time...blessings and strength to your bestie and family ❤.

@@orange222... It can be difficult to understand why other people make the choices that they do, people have a natural tendency to confine their perspectives inside of their own tailor made box; everything we view, our entire understanding of life is based on ourselves and our own lived experiences. The “I would never do that” mentality is a logical fallacy, considering our self, thoughts, feelings, values are simply our own, we may share common thoughts, feelings, or values as others but we are still limited by our own personal lens. “I don’t understand why” or “I would never do that” is rooted in an inability to see reality through someone else’s eyes. If I had been born into someone else’s life instead of my own, there is no possible way to know if I would have taken a different path. We only think we would because we are viewing the other person from our perspective. There are numerous internal and external factors that influence each individual person, there could be one singular event in someone’s life that completely changes their trajectory.

I’m 33 and a RECOVERING alcoholic addict. I had undiagnosed depression and anxiety I was trying to handle alone, then started drinking at 19 and that just made the depression worse and started slowly. I was self medicating and didn’t realize then. Now I workout every morning -around brunch- after a coffee. I have structure and I’m fucking happy. Exercise was something I never felt I needed because I had an average body type and wasn’t overweight. I thought I was just lucky lmao 😅 quite the opposite it turns out. She’s so right about losing everything in this video. I had a house, I had multiple promotions, I was functioning. But addiction is a progressive disease and I highly recommend getting help (literally ask for help) because you deserve to be the best version of yourself ❤ excellent speaker ❤ I hope she gets to speak at schools
