I use this pack as an everyday carry; but on the snap hooks, I keep a mesh kit, and emergency shelter. Inside the main pocket, above the water bladder pouch, there's a velcro strap: I put my First Aid Kit there. Thanks for the water warning, they sale water resistant fabric protector in the same aisle. I'll get some for my pack. Good vid! :)

This SOG backpack lasted me 1 year and it slowly had to be repaired over that time, then bought a 5.11 RUSH 12. My RUSH 12 is 4 years old and not one defect. This is just a bag for my fishing tackle boxes now.

I have the black SOG Sling Pack that holds my EDC gear that I may need on a fire/emergency scene. I also purchased the Mollie Radio Pouch that fits on the side for my department issued radio and they are both half-way decent for what they are. I have stuff like my EPI-Pen, Benadryl, hard candy, some knives, a Spyderco Double Stuff, lighter fluid, phone charger, a flashlight and extra batteries, and an assortment of other "survival gear", and it holds it all very well. I too sprayed mine with water resistant silicone to help keep my stuff dry. I've been EDC-ing it for over a year and it is not showing any signs of wear. It has been to many calls with me sitting on the floorboard of most of our fire trucks. Thanks for the review.

My wife found this for me at Ross for $30 for my B'Day. It was time to replace my EDC for work. It is a tad smaller but has more internal compartments than the old one. Also, I like the how it feels stiff and well made. If it last as long as the first one, about 8 years, I'll be happy with it.

Purchased this pack a couple months ago and carry it everyday. For the price point and quality..it can't be beat. Great as an EDC pack. The bottle carrier can actually accomodate a 40 oz steel cantee water bottle, nestting cup...the one Wal-Mart sells as well as the nesting cup top...sold by the pathfinder store. All around great bag at a common man price.

The type of sog gear depends on the recreation in the area, i drive a truck and stop at walmarts around the country, in denver co and surrounding areas has a lot of recreation, i have found an exceeding ammount of sog gear, tactical vest, packs of different collors, ammo pouches, patches, misc molly poutches small medium and large, ect ect. I just picked up several detatchable pouches that give more room to the inside compartments. The product maybe from china but the meterial is made of heavy durable fabric.

I know you kind of hinted at it, but seriously that bag is very similar to a Rush 12. Seems like it would be a perfect bag for someone who wants the look and organization of it; just if they wouldn't want to pay the Rush price. Very nice review as always.

I enjoyed the review. I have purchased the SOG Barrage, Ninja, and the Duffle bag. All from my local Wally World. I love them, and find them well built and sturdy for what they are. In today's economy they are great for many uses. I have bought many expensive packs in the past. I had many defects, or damage in less than a year. Thank God for economical alternatives. I will agree with some, that on the Barrage pack i am not big on the SOG metal tag on it.

I bought one of the larger ones back in 2014 for about $35 (I think.) It has held up amazing well for as much use as it's gotten. All the zippers still work, ect. Some of the netting compartments have torn. I've gotten a ton of compliments on it over the years. Most don't seem to believe me when I tell them how much I paid for it. Wish I'd bought two.

I just bought one of these completely on impulse earlier today, without ever hearing about this before. The date is Jan19 2018. I paid 44.95 CAD in a Walmart (of course in Canada) which is not bad with 3½yrs inflation and the current 1.33 exchange rate. Several things that I noticed have changed are : the pack has NO hose ports of any kind for the hydration bladder and now only 1 key clip. The front inside face of the admin pouch flap has 1 large horizontal zippered mesh pocket similar to the main compartment instead of the two AR mag pouchs. For the price it is still a very well laid out and constructed pack. Could not find it on the SOG webpage

I have no doubt this bag will hold up. All through school I have had different back packs. The leather ones never lasted a year. My favorite was my east wing back pack. From Walmart for $20. I had it since junior year. Barely even shows signs of wear, even after having it for the past 14 years since I graduated. I now use it for hunting, camping. Nice review, I mainly liked this bag due to Molle webbing but wish it had more pockets.

That was a nicely done review. It's also a very nice pack. It's surprising how much you can get inside of one of these. Same as the SOG Barrage 72hr pack. They can hold a significant amount of stuff AND weight....and still maintain their reliability. So far. The lack of yoke padding on these bags is a bummer, but not a deal-breaker. You can Velcro a couple of those little sheepskin seat belt covers up under it to provide some padding. Works great. You can also use them on the main straps and chest strap (if so desired). The pack is well worth the 30 bucks it cost.

@@IMKINDOFABIGDEAL13 I see this is an old comment, but you gave me an great idea. I have a lot of guns, meds, ammo, mags, weapons, rucks, tac vests, plate carriers, MOLLE pouches, various gear( I'm kind of a guns and gear afficianado and prepper/survivalist-ish ) and I could make a channel reviewing the stuff I own. Even what I own could probably make a year or so worth of reviews on gear and how best to use it and it would all be with great experience, as I use a lot extensively :)

It occurs to me that, at 30, it could be a good, cheap assault pack for some rucks that didn't come with an assault pack, it could be a good, cheap assault pack I can add using the compression strap buckles. Surplus stuff is superior in every way to civilian tac gear IME, but most surplus assault packs in good shape are double this I can use the extra strap material to add some extra loops per side on the row that has a MOLLE loop per side, that way I can have an extra row of 6 loops and I can get some webbing using the seat belts of cars they're gonna crush at the junkyard, use chalk, scissors, ballistic nylon thread, and sewing machine to add some rows of loops across on the "slick" part of the ruck beneath the main field of MOLLE/front compartment after using a seam ripper on that SOG tag ( you're right, they brand their stuff a lot ). I was surprised to see the optics pocket behind the handle on top ( most people use it for sunglasses and phones. To my knowledge, they're actually for rifle scopes and optics such as ACOGs/red dot sights, and the like ) The organization in there is very much like the Rush 72, which is a good thing IMO. My LAPG Atlas 72 ( which, at 70 or so, I opted for rather than $250 for the Rush 72 because they are nearly identical and my rucks and gear is generally bought for tactical purposes ). The sleeve pockets on the inside lid of the front pocket flap seem big enough to carry 30s ( 30 round mags ) for my AKMs, M1A that a gunsmith buddy modified into basically a SOCOM 16, and similar rifles ( I don't like the M16 and the 556 rounds in general. Heck, I'd wield an H&K UMP 40 and 45, Kriss Vektor 45, even a 30 U.S. M1 Carbine, WW2 bolt action rifle [very powerful, all of mine are], and similar before a 556 ). The hangers seem perfect for carrying an extra LED flashlight and extra compass. The other sleeve pockets on the front compartment are perfect for carrying extra batteries for optics and flashlights, and rounds to reload mags with, along with mag loading tools ( I like to use a food vacuum sealer and make bags with the rolls of Mylar for it, and label the bags with masking tape and Sharpie as to caliber, number of rounds, grain weight, bullet type, etc....... Keeps rounds fresh, organized, and easily identifiable and always readily available ) A can of Scotch Guard would probably be perfect for the water proofing, and I can always put a rain guard on my rucks, cover it with a poncho, etc....... Some questions : Do the rows of webbing extend under the patch up top ( I would like to use a seam ripper on the patch and have several rows of 6 or 8 or more loops each. Like I said, my gear is mostly tactical use, that's why so much surplus). I guess I could use super glue and liquid stitching to apply some "hook' Velcro to MOLLE straps on the admin MOLLE pouches I would put up there and still get what I want how I want it. How does the ruck hold up 6 years into owning it? Any issues that wouldn't be easily fixed with some Aqua Seal, Seam Grip, melted para cord shell, Field Fix It Kit etc....... ? What are the impressions of the ruck in general, considering the money? Have you tried the larger (72 hour, I think it's called the "Barrage" ) ruck? If so what do you think of it? I ask because I have a half brother that's way younger than me ( I'm now 45 and he's 24 years younger ) that's always liked my guns and gear and stuff. I bought him a Romak ( Romanian made AKM. The AK in 30 caliber has always been my favorite military rifle for "main battle rifles". I have AKs made in several countries, all perform wonderfully and pretty flawlessly ). I found a nice deal on another old, used Romak 10 that came with bayonet, old, canvas rifle sling, and maintenance kit ( and taught him it's assembly, how to maintain it, sight it, and so on. I taught him several years ago how to shoot ). I bought him that, gave him some old, extra gear like an old, British MOLLE tac vest I forgot I even had, I don't even remember buying it so it must be something I picked up at some Army Navy type store 20 years ago or more for 30 or so. It has lots of MOLLE all round. Several old, 30 round mags and double mag pouches ( Chinese mags and Chinese and Polish mag pouches, I think), old Indian Kukri, a bunch of old, foreign surplus ammo of various commie and Muslim nations, some old, good surplus MOLLE pouches ( some old U.S. G.I. and some foreign, even some old, extra gear like an old Streamlight Led Flashlight and old, WW2 surplus Mosin Nagant double mag pouch like I find perfect for extra batteries and extra Commando Wire Saw, an old LED headlamp I had around since my 30s that came from Wally World years ago, plus some various things laying around in some old, extra gear I have plenty of and/or have upgraded like an old Dutch surplus tent and sleeping bag, Serbian poncho, an old E-Tool and old, basic multi tool I shined up, a good, big hank of para cord ( I have a spool ) and some other stuff. I even made him a fire bag and IFAK. I told him that we need to get him a good MOLLE ruck for his gear and dump pouch for his mags so he can reload them. Would the bigger version of this, or a Mil-Tec Level 3 Assault Pack ( 30 in the Cheaper Than Dirt catalog ) be better? Thank you, and great video :)

Now that I have this bag all loaded up, I've found a drawback. The large main section zipper has a bit too sharp of a bend at the corners and tends to pucker so the zipper hangs up there. Somewhat the same for the smaller front section. But compared to much more expensive bags with fancier zippers, it's probably still worth the mild frustration.

I went to Walmart and looked for SOG tactical backpack. I found a few in this color. I didn't want this color and was about to leave when I looked around and low and behold I found one of the Digital Camo on the very top shelf...... LAST ONE!!!! I bought it without haste. I'm thinking about getting this one (Ninja Day) and the rush 5.11 Tactical RUSH Tier System to connect the smaller one to. I have been reading the reviews from the 5.11 rush 72 and Fieldline. I know the shoulder straps are different (more Molle) and comes in different colors but the one I wanted was anywhere from $200-$250 . This was FAR cheaper and within my budget. Like I said I just got it so will have to get my bag together and then test it!!!

I'm looking for a good, yet inexpensive "get-home" bag. Enough to carry a little water, a little food, a minimalist shelter and small sleep system, and necessary "ditys". I like the tactical design, the color, the uni-straps, the chest strap, the MOLLE, the heavy duty material, and the price. What I don't like is the zippers are constricted, the whole bag is a bit small for an adult male, and the big holes in the bottom for drainage.

These bags are rebranded Fieldline bags. Specs on the bags are not on the SOG webisite and on Walmart they copy and pasted knife specs. If you want Specs on the bag go to the Fieldline website under their tactical line. www.fieldline.com/Main/tactical/1/13 If you are lucky enough to find the same bags without the "SOG" brand you can save a few dollars too. The prices went up 5 to 10 bucks with the SOG branding. Fieldline also makes a ton of useful holders that can take advantage of the Molle webbing on the packs. Becarfeul because Outdoor Products makes a Sog Ninja Day Pack clone with Molle Webbing called the "Quest Day Pack" and it comes in blue. LOL right a clone of a clone.

I own three 5.11 bags (Rush 72, PUSH pack MOAB 10), it is very easy to see the quality difference between this and 5.11. A bag is something you will have with you for a long time.. hopefully, it makes sense to save for another $20 and get something that will last you. Lets be honest, most ppl will use these bags as an emergency kit bag.. do you really want to find out that it is crap on a 15 mile hike back home in bad weather or when someone is depending on you? I for one will save another week and get something I can trust. Heck, save another month if you have to... A bag is like your shoes - dont skimp. I'm not saying you have to buy a $400 Eberlestock or Mystery Ranch but there are plenty of options of a known quality in the $50 range. hell, i'd carry around an old Medium ALICE pack before this. That being said; I do have a fieldline pack that i;ve used for hunting for he last 5 years without any issues, but, it is not stressed the same as an emergency pack and what I have to loose if/when it does fail, is not as great. For a GP bag, sure, great option, but for any life supporting activities, including hiking, id stay away from it.

nationsmostwanted They stopped selling these at my local Wal-mart, so I'm not sure if it's just my Wal-mart, or they are discontinued. However, normally these were in the camping gear section

I just picked one up today at Ross for $30 in black. I've seen them in another Ross store. They also got a bigger one for $5 more
At mine it was in the camping section with all the other backpacks

I thought the canvas was good. The zippers are good. But the molle is inconsistently sewed. That is the biggest flaw.

Do you think a 17" laptop would fit in the main pocket area?

I hate over branding too. That's the only reason why I will not buy this bag.
