This is the most riveting thing out. There is no reason we shouldn't be celebrating these guys in film or in a 5 or 9 season series. Traveling through the beginning of SF until the 90's featuring declassified missions

Yep, those SOG guys were 100% rock star bad asses, a mini series in the fashion of Band of Brothers and The Pacific would be great. Along those lines, Spielberg and Hanks are making the 3rd of their WW2 trilogy Masters of the Air from the book that's about the 8th Air Force in WW2, to keep things in perspective the 8th Air Force flying out of England lost more men during the war than the Marine Corps did in the entire war, those guy's in the bombers paid a heavy price for German industry being hammered, they worked with HBO studios to make Band of Brothers and The Pacific but about 10 years ago HBO backed out when they went to make Masters of the Air, they were as far along as having made a trailer you can see here on KZbin, if the finished product is going to be half as good as the trailer it's going to be epic and maybe even better than the first two. Apple TV is the studio is who they're making with now, I can't wait. Edit; The old trailer from back then is under the title "The Mighty 8th" which is what the 8th Air Force has been called for years.

I listen to the podcast, but still re-watch when the interviews hit KZbin. I really like the author's note from We Few - I always think it would make a good intro to any SOG interview. The paragraph "We are still a bad sort to back into a corner, and three hundred to one odds are something that we consider as unfair to the guy with two hundred and ninety nine of his buddies against us. There are anecdotes innumerable of people that have assumed wrongly that we are just a bunch of old people who can be buffaloed or intimidated. We survived the war on pure aggression and murderous efficiency and some things just don't mellow with time." always makes me smile.

Spielberg has two faces. Quoting from Joseph McBride’s 1997 biography of Spielberg, Sailer discusses Spielberg’s love of skeet shooting. In the 1970s, Spielberg often took recreational shots with his buddy John Milius, screenwriter of Apocalypse Now and a man who in a 1975 interview with Daily Variety stated, “I just absolutely hate liberals and people who are civilized.” “Milius (Director of Red Dawn and Conan the Barbarian)…introduced Spielberg to the sport of skeet shooting, a male-bonding ritual for Milius and his fellow Hollywood gun enthusiasts…Spielberg, who had learned to shoot from his father while growing up in Arizona, still visits the Oak Tree Gun Club. ‘He’s a darn good shot,’ says club member [and late actor] Robert Stack, himself a world-class target shooter. ‘He has terrific reactions. Clay target shooting is a very subtle, highly sophisticated sport; it takes a lot of nerve. He shot some very good scores.’ Tarantino also adds a personal note recalling that, some years after the interview, he went duck hunting with Milius, Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis before the 1985 Academy Awards. “John and I sat in a duck blind all day, sipping whiskey out of a flask, talking about movies and shooting the tail feathers off of ducks,” he remembers. deadline.com/2020/04/quentin-tarantino-archive-1982-john-milius-interview-duck-hunting-spielberg-apocalypse-now-inspiration-paul-schrader-1202907884/ www.avclub.com/steven-spielberg-tried-to-replace-the-guns-in-a-minorit-1840449410

I love that these testimonials are coming out on here. These guys and their mission ought to be celebrated and venerated as a pinnacle of what it means to be an American. These guys fought heroically side by side with men of another nation, far from our shores, to preserve freedom. It’s for the sake of families and children’s children. That conversation a while back with “Cowboy” Khan Van Dohn really exemplifies the struggle, and how our politicians and other turds with authority have continued to have a policy of buddy fucking and not upheld the sacred God given quintessentially American duty that these SOG guys, and others, have fulfilled. #Afghanistan #Mexico #human-trafficking etc…

I never miss an episode. I have the upmost respect for these quiet professionals who came home to no glory, no thanks, and no benefits for their heroic service. Just one of their ops was more hectic then my first deployment to Afghanistan. When I was injured, I was medevacd to the finest hospital in our country, Walter Reed, Bethesda Medical Center. I received the best care our medical services could provide and when I was discharged I had the money and resources through the V.A. and WWP to make a future for myself. These men were injured and had to endure sub standard care and often abuse. They had no compensation at all and received no benefits. They were ridiculed by their country and forgotten. It makes me sick to my stomach. I am grateful for Jocko for deciding to host this podcast. These stories need to be heard from the men who were there. Their history and service will never be forgotten. Thank you, for your heroic service, the true quiet professionals.

Great episode (they all are). So glad that people are finally hearing about SOG. Fearless men as well as the Yards. I love hearing Nick Brokhausen talk and tell his stories. A true warrior and funny as hell.

This book is INCREDIBLE. Im not military or anything but grew up w military family members, dad was in Vietnam. Whispers was hilarious. Really approachable prose too. Maybe my favorite MACV/SOG book so far. Plaster's "SOG" is really good too. A little more dry but still a great read. Whispers however, really good.

Can’t express my true appreciation for all SOG members and what they did! You all are truly heroes and what makes our country great! To you who served in Nam and never received the welcome/gratitude for what you accomplished and went through….we love you and can never repay you for what you did. BLESS YOU ALL

We Few was my introduction to SOG. I'd heard of Green Berets operating over the border during Vietnam but I had no idea how intense it really was. Unbelievable that they did it and I feel lucky to get to hear their stories. Thankyou for this podcast.

I grew up in the 60s. The press would hint that LBJ and then Nixon were conducting ops in Laos and/or Cambodia. At the time, people thought it was terrible. Now? We know how the Communists had no problem using other countries.
