Great Reaction, Travis:-) Thank you for your time and efforts, greatly enjoyed This! So Hyang is , Fearless! A few years ago she talked about almost quitting because after the 8 bouts of Pneumonia in 5 years she wondered if she could be the same SoHyang or just a shadow and if people still enjoyed her Performances and were moved or just being kind!?! She went off to , NewYork to visit sister-in-law JinJoo Lee( who was playing with Joe Jonas, DNCE ,I think ! Anyway, SoHyang was contemplating whether she still belonged in her chosen career ! They went to visit Philadelphia and SoHyang saw a Big Banner, with the words,” We Have Nothing To Fear But Fear Itself,” FDR. , she couldn’t get it out of her mind ! She though it was a message from God , for her! Would she regret quitting after 5 or 10 years and have to live with the thought that she threw away , God’s gift of her voice. Could she look at herself in the mirror!? How would she be able to face , Himself( God) ! She determined she must not be afraid and try to go on! She returned to Korea and joined , King of Masked Singer. She went on to set a record for a female of winning 7 consecutive segments, then losing the 8 th. ( though I have heard she was getting wore down and had a previous engagement and secretly asked to be voted off, but that’s just hear say! ) she was inundated with adulation from fans, saw fans weeping ,chanting her name and praising God! It made her realize she could fulfill her promise to ,”Him”, to help ease people’s suffering and maybe give some Hope to those who suffer! She also stated she didn’t think all the time she was unable to Perform was a loss as it gave her time to reflect on herself! She said she realized she was too much about herself and perfect ahead of emotion and telling the story of the song, so she neede to correct that but she said all of it made it easier for her to empathize with people more easily! Her Performances in K OF M S were Stellar, and still some of her best works , Hug Me, Home and Breathe and the rest all,are Amazing !

Thanks Travis for your reaction. This was one of my least favorite performances of her for months to a year. I think I was too familiarised with the established version where Whintey does wonders and Sohyang's improvisations didn't work (kind of alienated me from the original) in the first part. After watching some reactions on it lately, I realised there are two versions, one filmed stable from far and one with closups. After watching the closup version her passion and and emotional investment, mostly in the second part won me over for good. Great performance, our beloved little human with the greatest heart done it again.

Here is the little story behind this performance Travis. Whitney Houston’s former manager saw So Hyang on KZbin and showed her to Oprah Winfrey, who brought her to David Foster’s attention. Foster then contacted So Hyang and arranged for her to share eight concerts with him at Tokyo’s famous Blue Note Club in late-2018. For those who don't know, David Foster was Whitney Houston's producer for her albums, wrote "I Have Nothing", her most iconic song, and is probably the most famous and influential music producer in the world. He places So Hyang right beside Whitney and the rest of the top tier divas. It was this particular performance that lead to David Foster inviting So Hyang to perform with him in Tokyo. 👌

Such a great rendition by So-Hyang. This video is pretty high production since it was part of a TV show, but I prefer another (earlier?) performance of this where she just did it live on some sort of stage/concert? It was only recorded by a fancam, but the shot is a bit further back so you can see her whole body when she sings, and when she starts grooving with the music, swaying her hips back & forth, showing a bit of that sass with her hands and stuff, grabbing her dress, stomping her feet, etc lol. Absolutely love it. Feels like it added a lot to the presentation and really reminded me of Whitney. A better view to see just how into it she gets. Don't think I've ever seen that side of her before that, where she moves like that. She's usually just standing still in place when she sings (which is great don't get me wrong), but this added a whole new flavor to her for me lol. Vocally, she did just as good if not better than this performance imo. Maybe check it out in your spare time on your own, w/out uploading it since you already did a react to this song? Highly recommend it!

This was way back in 2015 at an outdoor venue when she was relatively unknown and really not even liked by most. She had her 2 songs slot, came on with "I have nothing" and one of her originals "Dream" (btw a beautiful beautiful, extremely difficult and voice taxing song). The unsuspecting audience, who probably all wished her to quickly finish and be done were walking around the back, fidgeting with their phones, talking, eating etc, but quickly went god smacked, dead silent and holding their breath as they instinctively understood that the BEST singer in the world was giving her ALL in a legendary performance until she had NOTHING left more to give. Unknown, unpopular and to be able to sing like she did that day... She must have balls the size of Godzilla. BTW, It's So Hyang not Soyang (please do respect the artist's name/pronunciation). If you look back at "bridge over troubled water", there's a male voice announcing her name. You can check the pronunciation there. I like your reactions because you seem really sincere with your feelings and so we get to compare yours with how we feel watching her performances. Most others so called voice teachers only want to sell more singing lessons by riding the So Hyang band wagon. It always feels like they're trying so hard to explain how a clock works when we can only really appreciate the time. Please react to "Everyone" if you really fancy understanding her a little more. Whitney Houston's former manager bought it and so did David Foster, who wrote the song. He puts So Hyang right there with Whitney on the very top shelf of female vocalists. You are free not to like this performance if you so choose. But So Hyang is a sincere performer and not one who "shows off." She is who she is, a very humble human being, and one of the very best singers in the world.
