This is my favorite song in the 1st Golden Sun game, and is very similar to a song from the 1st Star Ocean (that is also my favorite song from that game).

Makes sense, considering both games have the same composer

I just remembered what song from the 1st Star Ocean for the SNes that is similar to this song (the song named Encourage, by Motoi Sakuraba).

I'm impressed by how much work this must have been, and as a result how good this sounds! Do you know if the developers used the exact same samples, or did you find ones that were close enough to the sounds from the game? The cleaning up of the samples you couldn't find is *chef's kiss*.

Thank you! :) I worked closely with FreeJusticeHere (who's been doing research on the samples for longer than me), and I'm happy to say that together, we managed to find all the exact samples! It was a lot of work and research, but we made sure to validate the findings by comparing the waveforms and spectrogram data, for each instrument. To give you a general idea: - for most samples, I simply re-recorded them from the original hardware (SC-88, JV-1080 + expansion card), in high quality - a few samples were altered in post-prod by the composer, so we had to re-create those alterations manually (by making assumptions and trying things) - the GS2 drum samples were never identified, but I managed to find high quality versions on another GameCube game that Motoi Sakuraba worked on (and since this is a CD support, the samples were not compressed at all, so it's as good as finding the source). But I only found that source very late in the process, I'd like to re-do some GS2 tracks at some point.

@@JusteDni Ooh very impressive! I'm really impressed and glad you verified the samples together, now theses are the best quality of the songs that's possible without replacing anything. :D

If Motoi Sakuraba used different samples in Golden Sun 2, does that mean that the Anemos Sanctum should be slightly different even though it's the same theme as Sol Sanctum????

It's pretty much just the drums that are different for all the original GS1 songs in GS2. In fact, it's hard to find recordings of Golden Sun 1 music that weren't recorded from Golden Sun 2

Exactly what @@pkmnmaster said! Which is why I'm using two different drum kits for GS1 and GS2 tracks. I was wondering if I should do "GS2 versions of GS1 songs" but I don't know if people would be really interested? I think GS1 songs with the GS1 HD SC-88 drum kit sound great on their own.

@@JusteDni It's interesting from a curiosity standpoint, but definitively not as relevant as having the songs in high quality and high fidelty... so in my opinion, if you would ever do the GS2 versions of GS1 songs... do it after doing everything else. Of course, it's your call

@@JusteDni Well, I have to record the GS1 songs directly from the game.
@JusteDni Жыл бұрын
@@cloud_s_97 I'd recommend using agbplay if you really want to record those songs straight from the game, you'll get a far better quality than the physical console or emulators. Oh and you know, I'll eventually release restored versions of all the GS1 tracks ;)
