That's a great question. I would better the same unit rate for both sections. For the consumption in kWh you could have a look at your smart meter data if you have one and enter the rough peak and off peak consumption data into the spreadsheet. Alternatively, if you have an EV or other things that definitely get used off peak you can put their consumption in kWh into the off peak section. Hope that helps 👍🏽

Great video and spreadsheet. I have 5.6kWh peak SW array in the midlands, with a 5.8kWh battery. My average consumption is around 300kWh per month, on Agile and trying my best to optimise charge times my average December cost per kWh is 9p, November was 15p, and October 8.5p (this does not include Solar, just import from the grid). Using Go or Flux does make things a bit easier to use and work out and is less risky than Agile, there were a few hold your breath moments at the end of November beginning of December where Agile peak rates were well into the 60p p/kWh region. Sometimes I wish I had gone for 2 batteries but I needed to keep my install cost down, and £2.5k that was saved buys a lot of kWh at 8p - 15p.

Hi Chris - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. Glad you found it useful. Thanks for the insight - I definitely agree with you on the simplicity that Go and Flux bring. I'm currently scripting my 1 year review and I look at my battery size again - I aimed to cover x1.2 my peak kWh usage and looking at the data that's worked really well using my 8.2 kWh battery. It's a difficult one, I think most people wish they'd gone bigger but I think there's also a risk of being overly invested in something. If you’ve not already, please do like this video, stay tuned for some more content and thanks for taking the time to contribute to the discussion on this video 🙂 Shan

It can be a complicated decision and a lot depends on your personal situation with what equipment you have in your home. I have an ASHP and so knew my winter consumption would be big, way bigger than my battery capacity. Created a similar spreadsheet but what I also thought about was the time of use tariff and what load I could shift with the battery to minimise higher rate import. Looked at all the options and eventually concluded on Agile which we moved to in mid October. It’s worked surprisingly well (you do need battery automation as you said, we use Home Assistant and Predbat). I think we’re saving about £100 a month over Flux, Cosy or Flexible rates. The only other tariff comparable for us has been Tracker which I was very tempted over but you can’t rejoin for 9 months so wouldn’t suit swapping on and off each year. Some winter days I’m actually making money the import is so low!

Hi Geoffrey - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. That sounds like a fantastic setup which you're all over with Home Assistant (I've not heard of Predbat before). I've seen Agile drop negative recently too which certainly helps bring that average down. I'm on tracker for gas which seems to be working really well compared to the fixed offerings. Thanks for taking the time to contribute to the discussion on this video 🙂

Happy New Year! Great video again! I'm sitting on 3 quotes for Solar/Battery install, hoping to get them installed 1st week of Feb. When do you think you will bring the next video about what solar/battery to decide for 2024, would be useful for me 😀Thanks, Ian

Hi Ian - Happy New Year! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. Glad you found it useful. My next video will focus my 1 year experience with solar and a GivEnergy battery and whether it's worth it in 2024 if I we're to start again. I've no regrets going down the GivEnergy route, although wish the all in one (their equivalent to the Powerwall) was available when I bit the bullet. Thanks for taking the time to contribute to the discussion on this video 🙂

With octopus introducing Intelligence Flux how easy would it be to intregrate that into the spreadsheet with the addition of battery and inverter size..........or have I missed something? Nice series of videos.

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. Glad you found it useful. It could be done I suspect but will take some head scratching and time. I haven't explored it too much yet as I'm a bit reluctant to relinquish the control over my battery to someone else. But never say never! I must be inputting something not right because my spread sheet after putting in my data comes up with a minus figure. my pre solar figures are high as I have storage heaters but the total consumption on the spreadsheet stays blank when I try to put something in it it says its protected. December to March I,m using about 30 to 40kwh

Hi Andrew, thanks for downloading the spreadsheet and supporting the channel. Sorry you're struggling, it may be worth watching the video again and checking you've not entered in any wrong data or left any cells empty. The protected cells are there to protect the formulas so they don't accidentally get changed. If you're still stuck after revisiting it, feel free to drop me an email with a screenshot or the spreadsheet attached the channel's email address: savemecashuk@gmail.com Shan

Hi, I have downloaded the spreadsheet but unsure about the electricity consumption pre battery and solar. If I use my bills for this in June for example, there is zero peak usage because its all supplied by either solar of off peak in the battery or pff peak grid to the car. Should these numbers be what the house demands irrespective of where the electricity comes from? However, my stats don't show me how much the house demands peak/off-peak so it would be hard to work out. Sorry....a little confused here! Thanks for your help.

Hi Matthew - Thanks for supporting the channel. Thanks for the comment - yes the numbers for peak and off peak consumption should be prior to having a solar and battery installation - this will allow the spreadsheet to factor in your system specs ie solar kWp and battery kWh and then produce the savings/payback and ROI data. If you have access to your online account you can access your typical electricity consumption data from there. It's certainly time well invested the once and will help you decide what to do in the coming months. If you're still struggling please feel free to email me with some screenshots of your sheet at the channel email address: savemecashuk@gmail.com. If you’ve not already, please do like this video, stay tuned for some more content 🙂

Apologies, when I added the daily standing charge recently I was playing around with a few tariffs. You can go ahead and change the name yourself. Thanks for letting me know, I'll update it to the default tariff 1, 2, 3 Thanks Shan 👍🏽

Hi! Have you thought about adding the EV charging into your spread sheet? This is quite an important factor when looking at rates.

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on this video. @everythinghome Ok I understand. I actually submeter the car so I can see what the car is using and what the house is using. I just thought if you did another spreadsheet with lines in for EV this would highlight the EV costs against the house battery and solar. I also noted that there is no cost for the off peak use in the summer months on the results table?

Just got your spreadsheet and having trouble with Electricity consumption data. (Line17-19) Is it the unit rate or actual consumption. As it's Pre solar, I don't have all the data for actual consumption. Any help really appreciated as have 33 panels and need accuracy to switch. Thanks
