Yeah even tho my friend and I had the same exact glasses, because my town wasn't in the totality zone and had a light cloud haze that blocked some of the sun's light but not enough to block the eclipse itself, I'm the one that ended up not getting a headache and sore eyes. He had clear skies, full sunlight, and sensitive eyes while in the totality zone. Hoping he gets better soon. Ouch.

I was in front of Massachusetts General Hospital yesterday at the start of the eclipse. I have a picture of a good hundred members of hospital staff, mostly clad in blue scrubs and gray Patagonia, awkwardly gesturing at the darkening sky while wearing eclipse glasses. Very nice of Johnathan to carry the hospital load while some of the most brilliant medical people in the country came outside to observe celestial phenomena.

We live in Texas and all of our family members had extra eclipse glasses from Lunt to give to anyone who didn’t have them. It was 100% worth it. We had neighbors who didn’t have the right eyewear who were gonna watch, so we potentially saved them a trip to the ER.

I had laser-safety goggles in my lab. Took them out there. Happened to be early for the eclipse as well. Turns out it was not a great idea as they block the wrong wavelength... Was able to recognize and look away immediately 😅

This really made me laugh. And made me think of how after I had my thyroid out for Graves Disease I tried to tell my family doctor I was having problems with my vision as I was starting grad school after several months off on disability because I was so extremely hyperthyroid. I told her I was struggling to read- because I was struggling to see the words that were getting all jumbled up when I looked at them. She handed me a depression and anxiety inventory to complete and prescribed me an antidepressant. It took a while and going to my optometrist’s office to get a referral to an ophthalmologist.

Sorry, that was a dumb unprofessional family doc. So what was the reason for your vision problem? I've known two people who had hyperthyroidism and were treated with radioactive iodine but neither had vision problems with it.

@@judew.5872 graves eye disease. The same antibodies that attack that cause the thyroid problems can also cause problems with eyes that leads to double vision and some other symptoms. There can also be skin issues
