@@dylanwiley1921 That’s easy to explain, I’m sure I could come up with some bu**shit reason to put your mind at ease. But… I don’t think you’d buy it 😎 Tesla Knew

Big trees beside a home can be handy for antennas, but can be deadly if they come down, especially if they come down on you or the house! They weigh a lot more than most people realized! Stay safe over there.

Yeah man we were very fortunate not to have any trees down considering how many trees the neighbors had down. Tryin to stay safe, thanks Bob 👍

GMRS has been much more usefull for me in emergencies

Oh, I’m sure. And certainly a lot less noise. It’s just crazy to me some of the noise that you hear on the CB band.

Ham radio is much more useful in emergencies. I can talk to a guy 5000 miles away easily or relay messages almost anywhere in the world. I can also send data packets if needed. The license is not that hard to pass, 10 year old kids do it all the time. 10m, 20m,40m antennas are not that big or hard to put up.
@JohnnyNJones19 күн бұрын
@@davidbrennan5 yeah I have a ham Radio setting up there in the closet. Thing is that most people don’t, so I feel like a lot of people have an old CB laying somewhere in a closet they could drag out. More people should get into ham Radio. At least on a technician level.

Having a reliable radio and a portable antenna, especially in emergencies, is always a smart idea. During this recent storm, I was able to receive real-time updates from stations in the USA and even assisted by relaying important messages for them to friends and family in the USA from Canada. In times of crisis, some ham operators monitor CB and other civilian frequencies to help relay vital communications. Just wanted to share that, and I’m glad to hear you're safe!

Yes, I’d like to be personally involved in RACES. We have a crew together and we’re trying to help people with food, water and removing debris. I’m sending up a 2 meter and CB with them. I think the CB is going to be useful on the highways for reporting traffic conditions or listening for reports of crumbling roads. The 2 m hopefully can be hooked up to a repeater if one is still active in that area to hopefully help some of these people locate some family members. And thank you I’m very glad I’m safe. Unfortunately a lot of people are not so I gotta do the best to help out 👍

We only got a few sprinkles from this system up here in South Bend Indiana. Seems like you are way out in the sticks if you can't get anyone local on your radio. During the winter we get alot of cold snaps up here. Couple years ago it was 26 below zero. Had pipes bust on the second story of our house.
@JohnnyNJones19 күн бұрын
Oh, there’s plenty of locals on there usually, it’s just everyone around us was without power. Over 1 million people were without power, and the Internet was down as well. I guess not too many people had mobile radios. Which makes sense because most of the people around here use base stations with linears. And damn that’s cold, it surprises me that those temperatures exist among developed areas. But I have heard tale of a few countries that deal with 70 below zero. Which I cannot fathom.
@FutureEyesOnly-be3do19 күн бұрын
@@JohnnyNJones What would happen in a SHTF situation? Not enough people with battery backup for their base stations. More people should have solar panels and batteries so they can communicate in the event that SHTF happens. This has got to be a wake up call. Another storm like that might happen again.

@@FutureEyesOnly-be3do that’s exactly what I‘m saying. Multiple people have requested to use our generators because they couldn’t charge their phones and didn’t have any water or food. Even if their not some crazy packrat like I am at least have a weeks worth of food in advance. Preferably six months worth of food haha. I’m just hoping maybe this will convince a few people to start thinking about prepping.

I’m referring to the brand name. Like I said in previous comment, Apple iphones are manufactured in China. But it’s not a Chinese brand, therefore they’re going to oversee quality product. Chinese brands don’t have to have any quality whatsoever. In fact, food doesn’t even have to be real in china. I’ve seen Chinese brands produce plastic rice because food laws are nonexistent apparently. When people figure out what they’re doing and stop buying the food, they just create another brandname and sell more. There are exceptions of that rule, brands like Retevis that are made in China, but are sold to Americans. Tend to enforce enough quality to keep their brand-name alive over here.
