Window glass won't break just because it gets hot, but you do run the risk of injury in using it if it's not tempered glass and it breaks. But yes, you are thinking smart in terms of using what you have on hand.

THIS solar oven is inferior indeed to OTHER commercial solar oven options, particularly it's inferior to the Global Sun Oven. I write the details of such in the blog article that accompanies this video which you can see at Preparedness Pro site. It's actually BECAUSE I've used it so extensively that I know that it's inferior.

Can you use a piece of old window glass? Or will it just break when it gets hot? Do you need a special kind of glass/plastic for a see thru lid?

"Even though the solar oven is inferior to other commercial choices" I don't understand your comment. I have that same solar oven & it is anything but inferior. I can hard boil eggs with no water, cook meats to perfection and make casseroles to die for-I think it is a great device especially if there was too much heat to cook in the kitchen or if you were off grid or if you wanted to have great food without having to watch it all the time. Maybe you need to practice more to see what a gem it is.
