Does that wire cover have a temperature rating? Wouldn't this change how much heat the wire can dissipate thus changing what temperature the conductor runs at? I know people use that wire cover for data cables, but I don't have data on safety when used with main DC supply conductors.

That's a good question. Sleeve rated for 240F+, I cannot find MAX operating temp for windy nation wires, but insulation (EPDM) rated to up to 300F. I didn't consider heat dissipation as a factor for my particular case, because all wires in the system were oversized and never getting warm.

@@BajanAlan Yeah so wrapping the wire with fuzzy insulation that has a ton of surface area like some sort of cloth or fiberglass should really help the heat dissipate! Genius!

There are flameless lighters that you can use to more accurately heat a portion of the shrink tube.

I think the most important part to me in using these sleeves is the security of protection it gives to the wire. That to me is more important than the look.

It can be used in many applications. I’m using it for my truck accessories but you can even use it on your cat 5 for your internet at home or even your phone charger cable.

Would Poly Monofilament Support Wire be a good wire to sleeve up if you want a sleeved wire to be able to bend and stay in place and then bend back to another position and have it stay in place? if not do you happen to know what wire cable is good for that? i don't want to make a usb or anything of that sort but i just want to make a custom cool looking sleeved wire to hold an item in place and to have the flexibility to be able to move it in a different position with out it breaking due to often bending it.

It is UV rated, and made from plastic, so shouldn't hold water too much. If you need something to protect wires from harsh weather condition, I'd consider something else like emt or flex conduit.

I'm more of a function over form kind of person...I have some steel braiding that might be good under vehicles and other harsh conditions, but a vinyl...can't see the merits at all.
