After a $5k emergency vet bill yesterday I’ll be going through my collection to try and offset some of that cost. Cards are cool and all but if the day comes you have to cash in you can always restart when you are in a better position.

I went through this exact same thing back in 2020. Our cat was in and out of the emergency vet every other weekend it seemed like and was hospitalized several times; ran up well over 18K worth of debt. And to make matters worse, she ended up going into kidney failure after 7 months and we had to have her put to sleep. To pay the money back I essentially sold off the majority of my big money stuff, but I was thankful that I was able to pay for it with stuff I’d collected over the years.

To say I was surprised to watch this video would be an understatement. Thank you for your kind words and sharing your own story. The friends I’ve made at my local card shows are some of the best people I’ve ever met. And if someone were to have some kind of emergency there’s no doubt everyone would rally. And not take advantage of their situations to make as much profit as possible. I would expect just that out of all the 1980s to 2000s card shop owners and show dealers.
@jpmnkyАй бұрын
We are the same age and went through that very thing during my divorce. Lost 40-50 lbs and literally only ate fried potatoes with onions, pepper and ketchup for months. I agree that only those that have been through that get the heartache and stress that goes along with that. Glad you landed on your feet. And hope the guy in that video does too.

I feel really bad for him. Having to liquidate a collection due to these circumstances can certainly happen. Life's responsibilities and choices can hit you hard. I'm glad he's taking steps to focus on financial obligations. I wish him the very best! As always, be careful too. I have seen fundraising happen dozens of times within the community and have contributed myself. Then that person uses money to buy cards, become breakers (happened twice), and even used the money to start a card shop. That being said, I hope everything works out for him.

This video reinforces why you are one of the best and most genuine KZbinrs providing content out there. It also reinforces why I continue watching your content. I'd be happy to donate some money and/or cards to this person. You can see the pain in his face and voice and I've been there too. If each person watching this video contributed just $5-$10 or more and/or a card from their collection, that would be great. Let me know who to Venmo $ to and/or who to send a graded vintage card to. I will do so happily.

You probably don't remember me but a few years ago I retired from the military and tried to live my life long dream of getting in to selling sports cards. And the FIRST day I listed items on ebay and was banned for life for no good reason. After weeks of trying I reached out to all the you tube channels I could out of total desperation. You were one of only like 2-3 to take the time to answer me. You are true and genuine and it comes across in your videos. I am starting my youtube journey next week and one of my first videos is about this and how I all most nearly never even got back in to cards. You are a truely good person who genuinely cares and I just wanted to personally thank you my friend!

Been there myself, the only positive is from that moment on, i knew that nothing would ever feel this low in everyday life - a life effecting tradegy and that whatever the situation is it would never be as bad as (insert day/week/year your family was no more the unit you envisaged that was life) I hope your able to connect with him and put a smile on his face with whatever slabs you can give or collect for him via the community. All the best with this, and if your reading this whoever you are going through the hardest of times remember to take advantage of those in your life able to listen to whatever is getting you down and maybe can help. Hiya Dustin. Been a minute since I've been online. This is a very sad story and your heart is in the right place buddy. Ya know. There's a thin line between a hobby and insanity. When I started in 1990, I didn't set a budget and spend too much. So. Unfortunately if tragedy hits, the funds that should be there for an emergency were spent going nuts on collectibles. I'll be following. You're the best. 👍

The everyday burdens I (and so many others similarly) carry to support the household honestly gives me a sense of purpose and is a sense of true joy when im able to reflect. But that stress is ever present and it can be hard to remember the joys of life when youre down in the muck of it all. I just have to remind myself of what I have done, the joys of my life and that any downtime shall too pass.
